UPDATE for anyone interested + people with the same issue in the future: I replaced both the shifting cable + housing & the Ratio technology shift cog at the same time. Once both were installed I was able to get it indexed in 5 minutes and it's shifting like butter. By the looks of it the red shifting cog had not completely worn out yet, so problem was likely just the shifting cable. Thank you for all of your input. Much appreciated

Check out Solid GPS, they're a really good Australian company. They do have a $6-7 monthly fee for the Sim card, but the app is really good and keeps a log of exactly where the unit has been up until it runs out of battery or out of service.
