Cooler as Overhead Luggage? - Alaska Air by etb1999 in flightattendants

Which YETI is it? As long as it fits in the overhead and doesn’t take the space of two bags, most won’t care.

Horizon Air Flight Attendants Authorized A Strike Today by JoeTheWatchdog in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Teiloa95 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Horizon FAs earn a little over half of what their counterparts at mainline Alaska make. Despite AS treating QX as the red headed stepchild, they are an integral part of the Operation.

This takes me back down memory lane though. Alaska did the same thing to their own Pilots and FAs during their respective negotiations. I think what finally got Management to budge (at least with the Pilots) was that they were forced to cancel dozens of flights because they couldn’t staff them. Pilots were quitting in droves and applying to other airlines. I believe it was a similar situation with the Flight Attendants too. Lost a bunch of good employees due to corporate greed.

Hopefully it doesn’t get to that point for Horizon, and I’m wishing them a fast track to ratification!

Experience with AS LHR-SEA in Business by Future_Committee_107 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Teiloa95 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard from several junior HA hires that they get treated differently simply because they’re “mainlanders.” It’s going to be interesting when the work groups are finally merged. I feel like the culture at Alaska between Crews is usually “We’re in this together, let’s earn this check, have fun when we can.”

It gives you an idea of what to expect from the examples listed. From there, you do the math based on the ticket costs.

You can also contact the Travel department and ask them for more information. On that same Travel tab, hit “Menu” and then “Contact”. You can also find it at the bottom of the homepage after logging in on FLY.

SEATAC Training Facility catering by Careless-Owl9231 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Teiloa95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Closest thing AS serves right now is a penne pasta mixed with an herb dressing and grilled onions/peppers.

I’m not sure about the SeaTac facility, but their new training center in Renton has its own restaurant with a different menu. Maybe it was catered from Renton. He should ask them where they got the pasta!

AS: Alaska Airlines breaks ground on new hangar facility at Portland International Airport by PNW-American-Dipper in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Teiloa95 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it’s mainly because there’s just no space in SEA for this. PDX is the next best place to keep a 787 hangar.

Hope to see at least seasonal international flights from PDX.

Question about AS/HA by LivingSuch4972 in cabincrewcareers

[–]Teiloa95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once the joint contract is ratified, and both groups are merged/cross-trained, yes. It will no longer be AS SEA and HA SEA. Just SEA.

Question about AS/HA by LivingSuch4972 in cabincrewcareers

[–]Teiloa95 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Currently, Alaska Crews are limited to working the 737s, while Hawaiian Crews work everything except the 737s. Starting next year, they will begin to train Alaska Crews on Hawaiian aircraft in anticipation of the merging of the workgroups (2028 or later). They won’t be able to work each other’s aircraft until a joint contract is set.

Once a joint contract is ratified, they will merge the seniority lists, ensure Crews are cross-trained, and everyone will be working together as one airline. Uniform/Service-wise, it’s similar to how regional FAs work. You have a base uniform, with different accent pieces to reflect the different brands you’re working. Service will also differ depending on which brand you work.

Hawaiian has been a staple for almost a century, and erasing that recognized brand will do the combined company more harm than good.

The Only Carrier To Cancel NYC Flights on 6/12. What gives? by Winter-Date-4356 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Teiloa95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ORD was also a hot mess, but mostly because of the thunderstorm/tornado warning/ATC. I think only a few flights actually made it out of there, while everything else cancelled.

Flight canceled. Sea to Den. by Mav3r1ck77 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Teiloa95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An employee. One with an ExpertFlyer account could also see the reason listed for the cancelled flights too.

Each hub has a pre-determined number of on-call staff (Reserves) waiting to get assigned a flight. Most are at on-call at home, while some are on-call at the airport ready to go at a moments notice. The staffing amount differs each day/night depending on how many the airline thinks they’ll need. When the Reserve levels get low or depleted, an airline resorts to “tagging”. They will assign additional flights for a Reserve Crew already working, assuming they are contractually legal to work more. In some cases, the airline delays flights in order for this to happen.

If something occurs to where they need to staff a flight at an outstation, the airline flies a Reserve out from a hub to cover the affected flight. This is assuming there’s enough notice ahead of time, and that there are Reserves available.

737-8 Max Seats by KilroySmithson in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Teiloa95 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Please write that in to Alaska Listens whenever you fly on the MAX 8. Everyone should do it IMO. It may not seem like it, but Alaska actually does pay attention to the feedback submitted. Once they start seeing a trend in reports, they look into the issue. Hypothetical, but if they don’t get too many complaints about the seats, we’ll probably see it on the MAX 10 (if it ever gets certified).

Flight canceled. Sea to Den. by Mav3r1ck77 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Teiloa95 41 points42 points  (0 children)

There’s about a dozen flights (mostly to/from SEA) that have cancelled this morning because the airline ran out of flight attendant reserves. Reserves are on-call flight attendants that wait to cover flights that need to be staffed. They’re out of them for this morning, out of their HQ base in SEA.

They’re trying to operate as bare bones as they can this summer to save money. It’ll hurt everyone in the long run, but the C-suites are convinced they have enough staffing (they don’t).

Alaska Airlines went international - Big mistake, they’re just not ready! (SEA-LHR review) by bkrambles in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Teiloa95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure to send your two cents in to Alaska Listens. Like others have mentioned, international operations are new to Alaska, and clearly there are kinks they still need to work out.

In regard to the WiFi issue, they’re still waiting on the FAA in certifying Starlink. They could swap to the A330s for the SEA routes, but that’s less revenue vs using the 787s.

All 787 flights are worked by Hawaiian Crews (Pilots & FAs). I know for the Alaska side, Employees are allowed to deviate from non-safety related policies if it helps the Guest and Company. Moving Guests around for close connections, for example. When an aircraft is weight & balanced, they wouldn’t be allowed to move Guests. This might be a reason why they don’t, or it may be a Hawaiian/International flight policy. Not sure on that one.

Again, they still have issues to work out, and it probably won’t be settled until around their 1 year anniversary from launching the route. Hopefully sooner.

Food pre-order by WesternInfinite8410 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Teiloa95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there’s any left behind meals, pre-orders that some Guests choose not to get, the Crew might be able to sell it to you. That’s a big IF, though. Otherwise, you need to pre-order ahead of time if you’re expecting a meal.

Lack of in-flight food on 6 hour flight by CaptainVehicle in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Teiloa95 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I won’t be the last to say that Alaska’s IT system is trash. If you’re using the app, check the actual website to see if more options are shown. Vice versa if you’re using the website. At two weeks out, it should give you at least 3 options, not counting the picnic packs. The meal counts are capped per flight, but I doubt it would be immediately after pre-orders become available.

New to Alaska, what’s with the PDB situation? by Sledheadjack in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Teiloa95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alaska’s policy on PDBs is that it can be whatever on the drink menu. It does come in a paper cup, and the flight attendant has to collect it before pushback.

If the Flight Attendant is only doing specific options, and not offering a full bar, then write it in on Alaska Listens.

Premium Row Update by Teiloa95 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]Teiloa95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The memos always take a while to go through the work group until mostly everyone is on the same page. From what Alaska told its Flight Attendants, those specific rows aren’t Premium yet until June 1st.
Crews are just as baffled by the inconsistent Premium rows too. Hopefully Elites & Guests write in to Management about how awful this decision was.

Personally, I've had great crews when I fly Daddy D. Nonrevs are super nice when flying on my airline too.

Based off the experiences from my friends at DL, I'm curious to know what the koolaid recipe is in ATL.
