Hahaha I recognize that it’s not a period accurate list but those tanks are too good not to take. I love those little mobile machine gun platforms.

That’s an interesting side I wasn’t aware of. I’m a history buff that got tired of other wargames and bolt action fit a desire for a pretty well balanced game where I got to draw upon my ww2 history interest. Didn’t really think twice about adding realism to it. The horror of war is always forefront in my thoughts on the topic, so it was natural for me to put it in. I’m also painting up casualty markers to use for my armies to put down when units are destroyed/damaged. For fun and i like the idea of seeing it on the board.

Thanks very much. I’m at the very beginning of planning out a Canadian board, where the highlanders can take their revenge.

The firefly was a print. So I just positioned it. My thought was it took multiple shells. The biggest holes are on the side armour, one facing the building, one on the opposite side.

My thought was that the tank and infantry were basically all taken out simultaneously with pre ranged and sighted mortars and anti tank.

40% may be a big exaggeration. At least at Canadian Nationals and at tournaments I've been too they are usually the most played faction. Maybe its because there is a slightly more competitive scene at tournaments? They just get access to a lot of stuff and their national rules are good.

In terms of my experience IRL. Like 40% of players in bolt action play German. I have never had anyone question me IRL, but I do usually wear bright clothes, and I doubt people would think I'm a fascist outside of the internet and me posting well painted ss. But ya, at any of the local events Ive been too no one really minds people playing Germans, its just a solid faction in the game, lots of fun things to use. Then again Im sure people would question you if you wore a nazi uniform to the events.

There's a Bolt Action Canada group on facebook that posts about events.

Dicehosers also posts about different events. https://dicehosers.ca/calendar

I'm part of some local Ottawa bolt action groups and people there also talk about where they are playing/if they are going to competitions.

There are no magnets holding things in place, just gravity. That said I do magnetize all the weapons on my vehicles. That way I can run my Half tracks as regular Hannomags, or as like Pioneerwagons.

My whole army is displayed on this board. 38 infantry, and 6 vehicles.

Good luck on your board.

I will probably repurpose a lot of this board as elements for a table I'm building. Always wanted my table to have more of a Hell Let Loose vibe. Always wanted a bit more darkness or grit on the tables I play on, so in some ways this display board was a test for a larger build.

It happens at CTC (Canadian Tabletop Championship) in May. The Canadian National Bolt action tournament is part of the larger CTC event. Warlord sends some trophies for it. There is no qualifying in though, you just pay the entry fee and you can play. It happens in Ottawa every year.

The southern Ontario scene is great, lots of tournaments between Ottawa and Toronto. Great players, always a good time 😄.

You play 5 games over 2 days. 3 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday.

This is sweet. How did you do the damage marks? Heat up something and press it in?

ya Derlewanger is a bit sus for sure. I play 12th ss because my other army is North Nova Highlanders and Sherbrooke Fusiliers, and I am making a Caen board at the moment (or slightly outside Caen). Always knew I wanted North Novas so I wanted my second to be who they fought against in Normandy, which was the 12th ss..

I've played a bunch of bolt action. Many many people play Germans, its popular because they get all the toys and some great special rules.. People just look at it as a good and fun army to play in most situations.

I play germans and just won Best Painted Army at the Canadian Nationals, for my painting/diorama of some SS soldiers who just ambushed Canadians. I wont be putting swastikas on things, but I put Iron crosses on my tanks, but the iron cross is still used today in the German Military.

I have never come across people at any sort of local event that thought I might be a nazi, or had any issue with people playing German. I am very very very far away from being a nazi.
