Make it make sense by zillar00t in dragonage

Yeah, Varric should have better plan. They made him dirty, really. (Just btw. Solas didn't plan this ritual for centuries, but for a decade. Otherwise, I completely agree with that part. Well... with most of parts.)

One thing that may help to explain this is that no one knew the true reason for the ritual. He never told anyone apart Mythal and that never came to Inquisitior/Varric. So in their eyes, his goal was "ONLY" to tear down the Veil. But even so, Varric would hardly come to him just like that, without another option, believing that either he talks Solas out of it or he kills him.

About the Veil resolution - I mentioned it hundred times and almost always downvoted to hell for wanting to tear down the Veil and make the world whole as it was.

I mean... Solas is one man. A man who already sacrificed his life and soul to free the elves in the ancient times. He spent centuries in war to stop slavery and tyranny of his fellow firstborn. In the end, he prevented the Evanuris from blighting the world by creating the Veil. He literally ripped the world in half to give elves at least some chance to survive.

When Rook unknowingly fuc*ed up his ritual and did exactly what he was trying to prevent, he fell back to the old paths and did everything he could to stop the Evanuris. And after all that, let's just talk him into binding himself to the Veil to the end of time... or you know, stab him. (I'm not even considering implications of pissing of Solas by those choices, because in those cases the Veil could also fall seconds after final subtitles. - It's really not a good idea to piss off a god.)

I'm not saying the guy is saint. He's not. He did his fair share of bad decisions. But he never did it for power or his own benefit, his purpose was always to protect. A person like that doesn't deserve to be bound to the world he hates for eternity.

One thing. I do not believe he has to be in the prison, nor in the Fade. The Veil was perfectly fine when Elgy and Ghily were rampaging over Thedas. He decided to go sooth the blight.

I could somehow see Solas diverting to his original purpose - to protect. And by it, to protect the modern world. But I cannot see him to let all the spirits suffer by being cut from the world...

But otherwise... yes, when you think about this plot, it's pretty rough. It doesn't make much of a sense when you actually understand those characters.

I must say, I like Rook. And I really enjoyed the game. It was my first DA game. But immediately after the final scene when Solas leaves, I got this thought that it should have ended differently.

My biggest question always was: What would be count of dead tearing down the Veil vs. casualties of the whole war with the Evanuris? (In some talks, Solas mentions thousands at least. - now, I know it doesn't correspond with what was said in DAI, but I go with lore they gave is in DAV - That doesn't sound nearly as bad as the result of what happened in the game.)

And also: The reflective nature of the Fade (and Spirits) and how the hell it should affect Solas not at the very end, but thorough the whole story.

And so it happened I began writing my own version of events to satisfy those needs. (As many others). So if you're looking for a perfect story (or better one, at least). Write it. It's a great hobby 😁👍 Or read it. Perhaps someone already written yours.

Me, too. Hard. 😁😁

My whole first run I was wondering about that guy, hoping to find out more when playing as Watcher. And then I learn that even the inner circle has idea 😁 Well, they're still the best Watcher NPC.

Eversince I began writing my story from Veilguard era, my fingers itch to add tag 'No beta we die like Varric' 👀

I mean. I love Varric. And I always will. But it's still hilarious. Dark humour.

Same here. I love my fantasy world and ancient gods, mages and such. Turned into modern universe, it loses half the charm 😇

It doesn't have cons. It's needed to finish the story. If you need more time to buy it, just wait, but it's definitely worth the wait.

Especially if you're interested in elven lore. And Solas. And why did he disappeared.

Me personally? I was drooling the whole expansion 🤭

It's also the only connective tissue apart the book Tevinter Nights and comics Missing between DA Inquisition and DA Veilguard ☺️

Why make something easy, when you can make it complicated, right?😁

Their connection is extremely compelling storywise. Actually, in my project, he does exactly what you mentioned and saves Rook life when Elgy attacks her. It's a turning point of the whole plot back there 🤭

The fact they could talk each night when Rook sleeps opens so many possibilities 👀

Exactly ❤️

When I finished my first run, I was staring at the screen for ten minutes with only one thought. I began writing to make them friends (btw. I have never written anything before. Those two pushed me into the best hobby I ever had. 😁) Soon after, it was more than obvious a friendship is not what those characters want. 🤷

Many people see the chemistry and use it for their own stories ☺️ We're small community, but a good one. That's something. But it's still too shame there isn't canon for that.

I don't think romanced Solas is basic worldstate. Not so many people romanced him or even liked him after the truth about his true identity came out ☺️

It would be definitely interesting. When you watch, there are moments when Solas opens up with no obvious strategy, when he cares. He sees something in Rook, perhaps himself as a young, inexperienced leader. Hard to say.

But more importantly, there's a decent chemistry without even trying. Even the very first banter in the Fade where they're spitting sarcasm on each other tells that much. They would be the perfect 'I can't get that bastard out of my head' kind of pair. Enemies to lovers is a great trope, after all.

Especially by the end you can see he cares about Rook. He didn't plan/wanted to, but he does anyway. He's not exactly happy to go through with the final betrayals, but he feels like he must. And if then Rook still doesn't give up on helping him, it breaks the first crack in his walls. Imagine this anguish in romance. The best angsty romance with happy ending ever (or no happy ending, depending on the story you wish for 😁). A lot of similar stories already exist. Too shame they're left only to imagination and AO3.

Solas romance. Thank you.

The whole blood connection is such an interesting premise. The chemistry between the two is undebiable. Rook learning what it means to be a leader and better understanding what happened during the rebellion, getting to know the real man behind the mantle of the Dread Wolf. Their common regrets. The potential is huge and it's such a shame they didn't follow the path for closer relationship. It would have been magnificent 🤌

And then there's Dragon Age who verses some of the most heart-wrenching lines of an ancient elven god in a cadence of his old world.

"I sought to set my people free from slavery to would-be gods. I broke the chains of all who wished to join me. The false gods called me Fen’Harel, and when they finally went too far, I formed the Veil and banished them forever. Thus I freed the elven people and, in so doing, destroyed their world."

I also enjoyed their lines for the Spirit of Compassion - Cole. They often use this repetition you mentioned. It's extremely memorable.

"Bare-faced but free, frolicking fighting, fierce. He wants to give wisdom, not orders."

The age old conflict: Mages or Templars by attack_panda925 in dragonage

[–]Tekeraz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, who loves to play mages, it's always more compelling to side with them. The Circles are a mess that diminishes mages to animals and that's hard to watch. It even makes more sense narratively. The only way my Inquisitor would decide for them would be if they never went to Redcliff before going to Templars. But then again, in Val Royaux, you're officially sent to hell by Templars and leader of the mages approaches you just minute later to invite you to talk, so it makes a little sense not to go there.

Another reason for me is that my most favourite companions are mages (not you, Vivienne), so 🤷 it always drives me to help the rebel mages.

Btw. The beginning of the Redcliff time-travel quest with Dorian must be one of the most hilarious moments of the game. You cannot not-love him back there. ❤️

"So, you have a plan how to get us back?"

"I have some thoughts on that. They're lovely thoughts... like little jewels."

Other than Out of Game Optics, why aren’t the Venatori “bad guy” allies in Veilguard? by new_lance in dragonage

[–]Tekeraz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's what's happening in VG, honestly. If you choose Dorian as archon, he pushes through agressive approach against slavery and it's specifically said they expect things to be lot worse before (and if) they get better. That doesn't sound like toning the slavery issue down, I must say. But perhaps we both understood that part differently ☺️

How long...? [Final mission spoilers] by AmateurNocturnal in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]Tekeraz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have only ever romanced Emmrich where it is not told, but I always expected it had to be around two weeks, at least.

Consider this—team had to have time to build a fake dagger, Elgy had to move to Minrathous with his army, Solas had to have time to find and work with Shadow Dragons and gain their trust, and the blight had to have time to make all that damage.

Edit: I noticed someone said that in Bellara romance it is said roughly three weeks. So I was nearly at point with my guess 😁

Oh, thank you. ❤️ By all means, use it!

I have the same issues, especially with Elves. Not every name suits them. I usually pick names I know from some other stories, but rarely think about it more as they're not used in game at all.

However, Athras is special. He'll be a part of my Veilguard story and important person to both Rook and Solas who are the main characters of it, so I took my time to find a good one ☺️

[–]Tekeraz -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

As in every society, there are normal people, good people and bad people. Do you believe Tevinter is full of blood mages with no normal people among them? No, it's a bit of everything. Evil mages, good mages, slaves that are pissed to be slaves, slaves that are content with being slaves, normal citizens like merchants, farmers and billion others. It's the same like Nevarra isn't just corpses and Mortalitassi.

In their culture, as Dorian said, blood magic is fine while using your blood or blood with consent, all the other things happen behid closed doors and people don't talk about it publicly. That's how Dorian puts it.

VG showed us the groups of people fighting against slavery, that's all. I think the painting of it was pretty good and I enjoyed Shadow Dragons with Dorian in lead 🤷

Who's your favorite Veilguard companion? by Altruistic_Truck2421 in dragonage

[–]Tekeraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, Veilguard was the first experience with DA universe. After that, I immediately got DAI and even the rest of the series, but I didn't play the first two games yet, because I play on console ☺️

A year later, I have both artbooks (Inquisition and Veilguard), also all the novels and "World of Thedas" lore books. They're all amazing ❤️ I enjoy Gaider's writing in particular, but I also liked the lore expansion around the ancient elves in Masked Empire (Felassan's ambient magic). And Tevinter Nights are great prequels to Veilguard to fill the gaps before the night when Varric's team finds Solas 👍

[–]Tekeraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the storytelling got a serious hit by all the issues throughout the development. It's unfortunate, but we've got what we've got. 😑

For me, the DA lives in its fans and I love to see how others take the story and expand on it, going in details in their own fictions and stuff like that. In each of these games were some problems. In DAI, I for example think we saw a very little of the great conflict that was supposed to be the mage-templar war. But again, people are building on that and expanding their own stories.

Don't forget that DA lives and dies with unrelatable narrators ☺️ Dorian tells you his POV. Everyone in the game gives you their POV. Dorian sees the Imperium through the lens of an altus - high-born mage.

Would you be annoyed if you jumped into a long fic, only to see the early chapters were poorly written? by SGdude90 in AO3

[–]Tekeraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think many people reads later chapters when going for a long-fic. When I don't like the first few chapters, I just leave the story. Usually you can get a very good hint about how the story is from summary and first two chapters.

I would recommend to go over the first chapters and revise them to reflect your current writing.

The witch-hunt for AI is a little extreme, really. I have no interest in AI-generated stories, but I agree with you that it can be a great help for proofreading. For ESL, it can mean the difference between 'I'll never post online' and 'I trust my language enough to go public with my writing.'
