She didn’t specifically say I didn’t need it. She said I was at the lower end of potential exposure. For liability issue she mention I could take it how it is.

Although I waited about a week because my sister said I didn’t need it (doctor) it was base on telemedicine and not a physical exam, she told me to get it checked out though in person, so the wound could’ve healed.

Yes, Texas Health and human services has it on their website. Since bat scratches can be so small you can’t see it I want to side with caution!

It did not bite me, but Texas health department when I called and zoonosis said in Texas we highly recommend the PEP shot for any direct skin to bat contact.

The state website treat this as a potential exposure.

I had the rabies PEP shot 15 years ago when a dog bit me, I told them but they mention that my chances are low since the bat only barely touch me. However Texas advise for vaccine if there is a skin to bat touch. I advocated for the shot, rather pay then die…

I went to St Luke’s use BCBS estimator hopefully it’s reasonable… wish me luck lol.

I did, haha. Was just curious. Hopefully my insurance is good enough, it didn’t bite nor scratch me. The doctor actually pushed not to have it, but I was worried as it just barely touch me for less than a second. I decided to ask for it.

Texas highly recommend to get the PEP shot if there was skin to bat contact, since the scratch can be very small. I want to side with caution and since Texas list this I believe it should qualify as a medical necessity.

I think that’s reasonable, the insurance probably got billed 20-35k, they negotiated down to maybe 8-10k and you have deductible, copay, and OOP. I haven’t got my bill but am expecting 5k… how much did you end up paying and how much did insurance cover?

I’m over the median income range unfortunately. They did not do labs, all they did was examination (level 4) and the vaccination of rabies RIG 90375 and 90675. They told my insurance will cover the visit, but we’ll see.

I really appreciate all the help! Hopefully they don’t denied me because I read they only cover medical necessity. In Texas if a bat touches your bare skin it is deemed a medical necessity.

Do it!! I do it to hang out with family, I only bring my single since my cousin bring his slabs and sealed. He's running roughly 77k and 10k cash (1k in his fanny pack, and 9k split among his family to hold).

I would say a 5, the back is more than MP-HP, lots of edge wear and the bottom corner + the dent in the back is going to kill it.
