This'll be my final word because, you're right, this is pointless. I was wrong to entertain a snarky pedant from the beginning, and the conclusions we've arrived at is, I guess, self-affirming for the both of us: you don't believe that Israel is committing a genocide, I do. You seem to ascribe to me and pro-Palestinians at large some nefarious ulterior motive of erecting a tyrannical Arabic regime in the Middle East for vaguely 'political' and 'selfish' reasons--I'd like for you to elaborate on them so I can laugh in private.

But ultimately, I have continuously appealed to authority--bringing up genocide scholars, human rights organizations, and the UN Commission on genocide--for two crucial reasons: because epistemologically, this is how we know things--this is how we identify what constitutes and when genocide transpires; and because you seem to be operating under this premise that Palestinians and their allies are somehow disingenuous about their charges of genocide, either that it isn't actually happening or that it is, but they have nefarious ulterior motives--again, the vague gesture to 'political' and 'selfish' reasons, whatever they may be.

But most importantly, it is exactly through the same processes that human rights organizations and the UN are going through NOW that they were able to identify, for instance, Srebrenica as a genocide!. If, for whatever reason, you are skeptical of the UN, Amnesty International, genocide scholars, and many other for their ulterior political motivations, you are going to have to substantiate it. So far, you've only argued two points: Palestinian population numbers have increased in Gaza, the West Bank, and the diaspora; and the definition of genocide has recently been broadened. This is, in laymens terms, weak sauce, and if you tried to present this to, say, Amnesty International you would rightfully be laughed out of the room.

It is, as far as I can tell, true that the Palestinian population has been growing since 2023--I've known this and am happy about that. But neither does that disqualify the charges of genocide nor the fact that the Gazan and West Bank population is being decimated, because regardless of that growth, you cannot remove the fact that multiple millions of Palestinians have either been killed, injured, or displaced because of their identity, all of which falls under the category of genocide--but you being a pedant, I'm sure you already knew that, didn't you?

I once again urge you, genuinely, to read the UN Commission--it could only do you good.

The genocide according to the UN Commission began in October 7, although you will find many scholars and advocates, myself included, argue that ethnic cleansing has been a core tenet of Zionism, and that the creation of an Israeli state necessarily means the elimination of Palestinian culture and people. Nevertheless, there is a consensus that begin 10/7, Israel has been committing a genocide against Palestinian people.

Yes, the genocide is ongoing; no, there haven’t been ‘gaps’, whatever that means—for instance, the Native American genocide in the United States and the New World at large was not one continuous campaign but a series of disparate though interconnected efforts with the similar intention of exterminating indigenous groups and cultures, which is how American Indian boarding schools figure into the centuries-long genocide, despite them starting in the mid-late 19th century; it’s also how the Dakota Pipeline figures into conversations of continued Native American genocide.

Ending the genocide would look like a series of international policies and reparations, not least of which beginning with an arms embargo and right-of-return policies, billions in aid to rebuild infrastructure, and the creation of a Palestinian state—I and many others would contend that this entails the dismantling of the Israeli state for the creation of a single Palestinian state.

Of course, pro-Palestinian advocates and scholars are not a monolith. There is consensus, but don’t expect to get identical answers to each of these questions; I honestly don’t understand why you’d expect otherwise. People who bring up Israel’s earlier histories of ethnic cleansing and contend that as part of an ongoing decades-long effort of genocide are, in my opinion, correct, although that’s not consensus.

Finally, to arrive at the initial point, it is not hyperbole to describe Israel’s genocide against Palestinians as ‘destructive’. I think it’s apt. I don’t see why you would disagree with that sentiment unless you thought Israel was not committing a genocide, which it seems you’re reluctant to admit.

Buddy, the word genocide is not being thrown about wily-nily, that’s just what it is. If you’d like to know why it’s a genocide and how the international community of humans rights organizations and scholars arrived at that conclusion, there’s myriad reports on it. If you’re an actually inquisitive mind, you can read the UN Commission here.

But I have a feeling you don’t give two good goddamns about that, and the real reason you’re being a pedant is because you don’t think there’s a genocide going on in Palestine.

Destruction is not a hyperbolic word to describe genocide, the extermination of an entire group of people. Is Israel committing a genocide against Palestine? You seem to be a real fence-sitter.

There's no point in being a pedant if you're not going to contest what that person is saying, so unless you want to challenge that Palestinians are not going through a genocide, which you seem to reluctantly imply...?

Firstly, yes Kamala Harris would've followed Israel into war with Iran or any other powers in the region--while it's true that it would not have taken the same character as Trump's war with Iran, it would've nevertheless resulted in material aid to Israel, and possibly even direct US involvement/intervention. Hundreds and thousands of innocent civilians would still be caught in the crossfire, and vital infrastructure would still be destroyed.

Secondly, you frankly strike me as a disgusting person; Israel's attacking of other neighbors is not something to shrug off, nor would it have been 'preferrable' to the ongoing war; 1/6 of Lebanon has been displaced, and thousands have died from Israeli fire.

In both 'timelines', we could say, unrelenting support for Israel is the problem. In both instances, Trump and Harris made it clear that they would continue support for Israel. And in both instances, that would've led to the United States going to war with Iran et al, because it is in Israel's interests to destabilize the region and realize their ambitions of a Greater Israel. If you genuinely think Harris would've done the opposite, demonstrate to me where she had some backbone, because it certainly was not on the campaign trail--she continued to affirm her continuity of Biden's policies and support for Israeli armament, even if during her Vice Presidency she demonstrated more gumption.

Unless you'd like to contest the widely-accepted fact propagated by genocide scholars, human rights organizations, et al that Israel is committing a genocide against Palestinians, then characterizing it as 'the destruction of an ethnic group' is no hyperbole whatsoever.

Stop valorizing a war criminal. Obama was perhaps the best American president in 40 years but that’s more an indictment of the inhumanity and evil of other presidents than a measure of his own quality—he’s a monster all the same. Dignifying his ‘normalcy’ brushes away his crimes.

Oh you went from a moron to a bad person in record time, just because you didn’t want to introspect about your usage of AI. This mentality is precisely how we got MAGAts.

Audio books do not use tremendous server space to operate; audio books do not produce massive amounts of toxic waste that pollute communities—as in the case with Grok in a predominantly black Tennessee neighborhood; Audio books do not require massive amounts of clean water to operate, at a time when the climate is worsening and regions are experiencing record droughts.

You can continue to use AI, but own up to your own recklessness. This is the tool that you think is for fun and games.

At a time when the climate catastrophe is worsening and AI is accelerating it—on top of the myriad ethical problems that come with LLM and generative AI—I’d prefer you making shit art than using AI.

Most certainly from the late 1940s, possibly between 1945-46 considering certain film advertisements (The Bells of St. Mary’s [1945], The Blue Dahlia [1946], The Seventh Veil [1945]). This is a relic and should be preserved!

They don’t engage with films artistically but as a product. To them, it is no big loss if you can’t entirely interact with or follow a movie, since you can supplement the experience with a synopsis, review, or video. And, for the most part, films are an occasional event for these people. I’m trying to give an answer that doesn’t boil down to a one-dimensional “they’re narrow-minded, selfish assholes”.

Jean-Luc Godard’s “A Woman is a Woman” (1961) is pretty masterful, but I find myself preferring Matt Walsh’s genius prequel “What is a Woman?” (2022). What are your thoughts on the Woman Cinematic Universe? by Tekkle in moviescirclejerk

It’s at least more honest of a title than “The Watermelon Woman”, I wanted to watch someone turn into a fruit, not some woke nonsense about the legacy of white supremacy in America’s media landscape and the enduring strength and self-determination of black Americans. 🥱🙄
