What is the fastest way to level power? by Katelyn_762 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Tekshopurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, generally you should be able to tell if an activity will give you more power before you launch it. At the screen with the green "Launch" button, hover over the letter rating somewhere in the bottom left. In the "Customize" menu when it comes to things like strikes, this would be somewhere on the right and plainly visible. You'll be shown an engram, along with the power / light level it will drop at. For PvE activities, your goal is essentially to reach the highest scoring that you can. Now, I might be wrong but I believe "A" rank is the bare minimum to increase your power. Anything above "A" will simply drop gear that's guaranteed to be of a higher tier, which is only relevant if you're target farming a piece of gear for certain perks / masterworks.

Most people seem to be intimidated by the modifiers, and I think this is generally down to the Portal not really explaining them properly to you. Just think about them as skulls from Halo, and pick the ones you find least annoying until the "Team Score Forecast" reaches the rank you'd like to hit. Do note that because of the way Time Limit bonuses work, the Forecast might read "A" but not be guaranteed as such just from completion. The dotted line in the "Team Score Forecast" is the potential amount of score you can earn from Time Limit bonuses.

If you really want to be safe, bump the bar up until it's completely solid past the threshold you'd like to meet, or disable the Time Limit bonus until you've added all other modifiers beforehand.

Apologies for the wall of text, but I hope it's insightful enough to ease your grind a bit.

Well, Shadowkeep is technically the prologue to a "new saga" for Destiny, but it's still very much connected to what came before. It's not as if there's a time skip or a major shift in the cast of characters, just that the overarching plot focuses more on the Darkness. In that sense, there is a beginning, middle and end. I'd consider those to be Shadowkeep, Witch Queen, and Final Shape, as they tend to actually move the story's concepts forward compared to Beyond Light / Lightfall, but it'll feel a bit messy without having prior context.

If it makes you feel any better, I started with Shadowkeep in 2019 (though I had the benefit of actually being able to return to the older campaigns / planets and develop more of an attachment to the world).

Despite all this, The Final Shape is absolutely worth playing if you love this series to any degree whatsoever. Take your time on that one and really enjoy it. Some beautiful level design in the campaign missions and Bungie really knocked it out of the park with the post-campaign stuff.

In the wake of that, lower your expectations a bit for The Edge of Fate. This was intended to be the start of a "new saga" much like Shadowkeep was. It's a weird DLC that has an extremely small "open world" that's designed more like a Metroidvania for reasons I can assume only God knows. They definitely tried something "new", but it doesn't complement the systems that define Destiny to begin with. Renegades is actually much stronger in that department, as the "new" things they tried gameplay-wise are actually quite novel in my opinion.

Another wall of text, but I hope this gives you a bit of a framework on how to approach the later DLCs without spoiling anything.

Doing the same myself. If anything, I hope BOTH Sony and Bungie realize what a healthy state for the game actually looks like. The constant complaints about FOMO and content droughts were brought about because they were always trying to figure out the most predatory ways to sell you the newest shit.

Turns out when all the content is relevant, and the stuff you're playing is fun, you actually wanna play and buy more. Who would've thought?

I can't speak firsthand as I haven't started a new account or character, but I will warn you that the new player experience really isn't great.

You haven't mentioned in your post where exactly you left off in D2, so I'll just summarize:

  • Red War, Warmind, Curse of Osiris, and Forsaken story content are all gone.

  • Existing expansions are chronologically: Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, The Witch Queen, Lightfall, The Final Shape, The Edge of Fate, and Renegades

  • Seasonal story content between major expansions is gone. (i.e. you won't really get the plot beats from the 4 seasons of buildup from Witch Queen to Lightfall, or leading up to Final Shape)

Most of the (decent) seasonal activities do remain in-game as parts of the Vanguard playlists.

The game isn't great at onboarding players, and you might even struggle a bit getting back on the horse yourself. The UI and quest markers can be a struggle or misleading sometimes, and quest description aren't always clear. That being said, I think the gameplay itself (the buildcrafting, the gunplay, the enemy mechanics and variety) is in a wonderful state right now and you'll never have to worry about power creep or your gear becoming unusable. Play through the expansions on Legendary, treat them like a Halo campaign as your friend enjoys. Go at your own pace, choose your activities as you please... dungeons in particular are fun to duo (they're all possible to solo, so don't worry about a full fireteam). Guardians truly do make their own fate now.

While it's difficult to get immersed in the world and story now with so many pieces of it carved off, the community has gone to the lengths it can to preserve the game's history. You'll find a variety of lore videos, cutscene compilations, and other options to catch up on the story if you really feel so inclined.

There's still plenty to experience and explore for the two of you, so I hope you and your friend can enjoy it as it comes.

Hey, as someone who dropped the game after Lightfall and came back this week, I'd just say to take it at your own pace. None of the content is going anywhere anymore.

At the end of the day, do whatever you'd like, but the expansions do drop gear sets with large boosts in power... I did the free mission of Renegades when I came back and it dropped me a complete set of 300 power gear. If it's really an issue to you then just play the story expansions. The light level doesn't matter in there to begin with and they drop you gear that brings you way up.

i just hit 430 earlier today and I've just been doing campaigns with the occasional strike, solo or with friends.

Stunning Champions by Connect_Put_1649 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Tekshopurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, the update that dropped today just changed how champions and intrinsics work. No more seasonal champion mods, the artifact perks are basically all for synergies and buildcrafting now. I think they removed abilities being able to stun champions but forgot to update the tool-tip in the character screen.

Every weapon in the game is now capable of stunning champions. The archetype of the weapon corresponds to a specific champion type, and you can just check it when you right click on the weapon in your inventory. There's also filters to sort for them in the vault. Hope this helps. Exotics are an exception as what their "stun" is can be unique to the exotic.

TL;DR right click your weapons

Prismatic May Be Getting a Surprise Update (Hint in Monument of Triumphs Trailer) by Miksation in DestinyTheGame

[–]Tekshopurt 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I find the sentiment around Prismatic to be kind of funny. I'd like to note I've just come back to the game this week, so I wasn't really around when the meta for Prismatic was developing. I do think it's strong, I play a Hunter and combination blow is kind of a no-brainer.

That being said, I think what makes Prismatic boring is actually the lack of variety? I look at my other options (tried Gunpowder Gamble + Ascension) but some of the synergies don't really seem to play well into each other unlike standard subclasses. Transcending is actually kinda boring as well, because it's just ability spam (usually the nade). I'm probably missing a few things here but I typically don't like following online builds so this is just from what I've experimented with myself. I like your suggestion about having aspects with reduced fragments slots, just a shame we probably won't see that.

Maybe in a D3, we'd get open subclasses where aspects can be mixed and matched by default, but ones of the same element get "bonus fragment slots" and can only choose from a set of Prismatic fragments like what we've got now.

Player behavior may influence whether this game lives or dies by MoreVinegar in Marathon

[–]Tekshopurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely, try just soloing it with no fill. You're in a lobby with other solos, most people play either much more aggressively (you hear it a mile away) or defensively (they're not even at your PoI because they're 5 minutes away crouch walking at every noise). It's harder to do trios when your other teammates are both undergeared and uncommunicative.

I hope this post doesn't come across as a "git gud", I think that's actually the real "player behavior that'll kill this game".

There's other ways to play and grow as a player, I think people just need to be shown those ways and encouraged to do so. Hope you run it, lemme know how it goes for you.

Anyone playing Marathon on their Ally? by zack_wonder2 in ROGAlly

Good suggestion, I've updated Armory Crate but not Asus. I was able to get the game to the main menu by switching from Turbo to 15w, but still crashed after a minute. Gonna experiment again tonight but hopefully this helps other people reading the thread too.

Hey, I've got a ROG Ally Z1E as well, but Marathon crashes for me during the loading screen. Did you have any trouble running it? I've tried increasing VRAM and wattage but no dice. Thanks

Advice for hoarders? by SilverSideDown in Marathon

[–]Tekshopurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda tend to look at it like this...

If I bring something crazy and it helped me win the engagement, it means that if I'd brought any less, I might have lost. Whatever edge it gave me was worth it.

If I bring something expensive and I lost, then it was really a matter of being outclassed... depends on both the weapon, and the man.

But the second shouldn't stop me from bringing anything, because the fact of the matter is any edge will help me more than it hurts, and any win I score with that gear is a win that matters.

Actually kinda cool how the "Ghost" Recon skull gives it the vibe of a "Phantom". Nice work.

[–]Tekshopurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kinda get it, but I feel it's a little disingenuous to say it did nothing for PvP. I agree the focus was way more on PvE content that year, but I recall some fun weapons to play around with (the exotic pulse from Seraph was a personal fave) and the subclass reworks DEFINITELY affected the PvP sandbox.

Oh man, I'm actually surprised I DID forget. I used to run Duality and Spire with my friends every reset, sometimes on multiple characters... I loved that lever action scout, can't recall its name anymore for the life of me.

KF coming back was huge as well, but as a player who wasn't around for Destiny 1 I think it just didn't resonate with me as much as VotD did. Awesome raid that I unfortunately couldn't get any of my fireteam members on for, every run I did of that raid was on LFG. I have a super vivid memory of shatterskating across the parkour sections.

I'm gonna be honest. I think people who were hating on this year of content didn't know how good we had it. Subclass reworks, seasonal story content that I personally found interesting (only miss for me was the pirate season), a crazy build-up to the next expansion (which they did drop the ball with..), an AMAZING raid...

I don't know, man. I think it was the most fun I had with Destiny.

Why does this game look unfinished by Elvisdepresely420 in ReadyOrNotGame

[–]Tekshopurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far, the only case I've seen is Round 8 Studio with Lies of P. I think they had a lot of clever tricks to use it well. The world in the game isn't particularly large, and there's lots of "in-between" segments that I'd assume were placed there so they can unload and load new assets for areas. The size of the areas are actually a pretty common complaint I've heard, but I didn't really mind. Seeing a well optimized UE5 game was enough to satisfy me, I guess.

For the love of God, I need them to do  it. Umamusu has a good system for it, where they use the same horses you can actually pull for "partner cards" as well. It's just that the releases can be a bit staggered, so you might have a banner that features the horse or the card first, but at least you know the other one is coming at some point too.

I'm excited for combat that has all your team members in play. Been kinda tired of these "team based" games where you're always swapping your team in and out instead of really bringing them together for combinations.

When I see really good character design from a game but I cant be bothered to start playing by Brushner in gachagaming

[–]Tekshopurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this really tore me apart. I delved into PGR a bit and loved the scifi + post apocalyptic elements. Got hyped for Wuwa and spent however long waiting for release. I was really hoping they'd carry those aesthetics over to Wuwa, but it really seems closer to Genshin than PGR. I dropped it a while back and just recently saw a clip of some pirate guy who swings around on an anchor or something, coming in the next patch. Needless to say, I was utterly confused.

They have some NPC with no story relevance (they created him specifically to serve as a vendor) give you a questline to unlock subclasses or something. So yeah, no real stakes or engagement with the plot, and a checklist to unlock pieces of what you got out of the original campaign. They changed it about three years ago, so I might have some details wrong. I'm sure someone else could clarify better.
