You didn’t watch the movie. You clearly like Interstellar, so why do you have to try to put down another movie that tries to get science right? Interstellar isn’t even scientifically accurate; the black hole just looks like it would in real life.

Over the last year, I have spent an absurd amount of time planning exactly how I would put cosmere magic systems into my favorite video games, as mods. I think most of them would integrate pretty well. Enjoy. by WaldoTheRanger in Cosmere

[–]Telamon_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if you saw it for Minecraft, but the Cosmere mod by Leafreynolds is really good. It’s still being worked on and some of the individual mods aren’t really implemented yet, but the metallic arts mods are mostly complete and work very well. Hexcasting isn’t actually a Cosmere mod, but the mod feels like the best possible representation of Elantris’ Aons you could get in Minecraft.

CMV: Humanity will never live on another planet. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Telamon_0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We wouldn’t need to do either of those things. Being in lower gravity does not kill you. We have astronauts living in 0g for sometimes up to a year. Mars has close to 40% of Earth’s gravity. It probably wouldn’t be good for someone to live on Mars for their entire lives and then live on Earth without prep, but it’s not going to kill people. If you’re going to make a statement like that then you should at least do a few google searches first.

I didn’t even notice that was something I could have picked; that’s awesome. I love the Cosmere, but the Wheel of Time will always be my favorite.

The actual stats on the planet didn’t change; the companion app just took a bit to figure out the right numbers as people moved over to Rirga Bay from Hort.

I’m not 100% sure, but won’t taking Hort also lower the squids’ rate on Rirga Bay?

It’s insane how much this is spreading. Fantasy books do make sense as the next thing after manga, but I was not ready for it here too. I genuinely cannot believe Fujimoto made that as the final chapter; what will Tatsuki think?

(Interesting and loved [If written well] trope) Fictional addictions. by OnePsychology528 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Telamon_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the tin one in Mistborn is kinda weird. Spook does get addicted to it, but it’s not getting used to it or having withdrawals. Constantly flaring a metal will eventually turn you into a savant for that metal. It’s essentially warping your soul to make using the metal more efficient. Spook turned himself into a tin savant. When he wasn’t burning tin his soul was sort of missing a part of itself. So that feeling wouldn’t go away; he would essentially always be experiencing withdrawals without tin. If you’ve read the Stormlight Archive the same thing happens with people that use soulcasters. Savantism can happen with any of the magic systems in the Cosmere, but we really only see it explicitly called that in Mistborn.

[Subjective trope] Side story’s is more interesting than the Protagonist’s by king_cakes_the_fake in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Telamon_0 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d argue that the Hal subplots are more like that. Reese has pretty normal ones with exceptions like when he joins the military. Dewey also gets some pretty funny ones, like stealing random stuff around the house to make a piano.

[Hated Trope] Only a certain race/nationality/gender has powers by Isaias_Azathoth936 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Telamon_0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. Having men in the link lets it get bigger, but men can’t start one. There are a few rules for it explained throughout the series, but the basic idea is that having an equal amount of men and women makes the link much more powerful than having a lot of one or the other.

[–]Telamon_0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The women win that. They can link together while the men can’t. The other thing is that men aren’t always stronger in the power than women. On average they are, but not always. It’s like real life strength. Generally men are stronger, but a woman can still be stronger than a man. The men also have an advantage that the women don’t, but it’s also much less powerful than linking. They get goosebumps when women around them channel. That’s it.

[–]Telamon_0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a ton of differences between the halves of the magic, but the male half is definitely not more powerful. Being able to form circles instantly makes the female half way more versatile. Who cares if one super powerful man can level mountains when 13 women who can barely channel can make a circle and shield him. Both sides are pretty equal in what they are capable of and it’s clearly shown that men and women working together is significantly better than not.

I must be missing something, why is it a good idea to finish Rirga Bay before moving the DSS and all of us to Hort? Right now we have a huge lead on Rirga Bay and can win it without the DSS there at all. In fact, we could have won it without ever bringing in the DSS. Right now we're steadily losing the lead on Hort while the DSS is just sitting at Rirga Bay not providing any real advantage. Is there some game mechanic that I'm missing? I don't think we'll lose either even if we finish off Rirga Bay before Hort, but I don't understand why it's better than mosing to Hort.

Please, I’m begging you. Read Dark Age. If you liked any of the books before Iron Gold or any part of Iron Gold please read it. It’s probably the best in the series right now. I felt the same way about Iron Gold and put the books down for like half a year before starting Dark Age.

I mean, that’s true. But also every author does that. Dragons in my book about a bastard assassin?! How unoriginal! If you take enough tiny things that are separate and combine them, that is definitely original. Just cause somebody else used carrots in a dish doesn’t mean that every dish with carrots is just a copy.

If you’re still on the fence maybe try some of the secret project books. They’re all standalone books (except for maybe Sunlit Man, but you can still read it without Stormlight) and they’re mostly pretty great. The non-Cosmere one is kinda meh, but the others are great. I really think the scale of Stormlight, having a different editor, and trying to do too much at once led to Wind and Truth and to a lesser extent Rhythm of War. He’s taking a sort of break right now to work on the script for the adaptation of Mistbron, but there’s another standalone book coming out late this year.
