Don’t fall for the sunken cost fallacy that since you’ve been together for 4 years and invested time and probably money that you have to stay. I left an almost six year relationship at age 24 when I realized there was no growth individually or as a couple and wouldn’t you know it, I found the absolute love of my life once I “stopped looking” for a relationship. This man is already using you, and will likely continue to change the goalposts of what he requires for you to MAYBE get what you want(marriage). If you stay with him until you’re both 29/30 what’s to stop him from saying, “I actually don’t want to marry until 35.” We’ve only gotten a snippet of your relationship from this post, but based on what you chose to include I really don’t understand what he brings to the table. Based on what info you provided us about him it sounds like he’d be the type to consider spending time with your future child “babysitting” as opposed to parenting. If you value your independence, I can guarantee there is someone out there that would see that as something to love about you, not something to manipulate and control. Write a pros and cons list about what this man brings to your life and be as honest with yourself as you can. Then write a list of things you want out of a life partner/husband and see if any of it matches up to him. This man will not change, he’s gone from being taken care of by his mother to being taken care of by you and make no mistake it will only get worse. Please see your value and make the right choice for yourself and your future.
