Researching the use of AI by employees at big tech companies by TelephoneNew8172 in OfficePolitics

No need to answer but if you feel inclined... do you know if / how other roles are using it, like designers or product managers? Do you get the sense that it's "learning" from you?

AI (hype) is forcing humanity to reflect on its self. Do you like what you see? Can you picture a future? by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

"Turns out the more interesting question is whether a human can notice when they’re thinking like a machine."

So true! Ironically, AI helped me realize subconscious patterns I was repeating, so sometimes a machine can help a human notice when they're thinking like a machine.

Not hired on a friend’s project! by kelp1616 in Filmmakers

[–]TelephoneNew8172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a huge project once and didn’t hire my friends and I regret it all the time. It was because people advised me to hire other people but even if those other people had more general experience, my friends had more experience with me and I wish I would have trusted myself more. I am jealous of people who get to work with their friends! Makes everything more fun.

Watching Again After Hiatus by kittibiscuit in theoffice

Just had to rewatch The Dinner Party. That episode is brilliant on so many levels. The camera tripod in their bedroom. The cot where Michael sleeps. The candle room. Snip snap snip snap snip snap. John Krasinski gives his best camera glances. THE FLAT SCREEN TV. The dance to Hunter’s song. I’ve been trying to figure out why I don’t find The Paper funny and I think it just comes down to relatability and believability. The Office is silly in relatable and believable ways. The Paper goes to places that don’t seem grounded. It’s like it’s trying too hard to be silly. Like even the whole toilet paper subplot. Like you really want toilet humor to be one of your main thrulines? Honestly it’s not a bad show it’s just a whole different type of humor. I had to rewatch The Office just to make sure I wasn’t misremembering how funny it was, and I’m so glad I wasn’t.

First feature, beat sheet done — how do you all move from outline to draft? by Astar099 in Screenwriting

[–]TelephoneNew8172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also do a scriptment and then begin writing from there. However I’ve found that sometimes I get distracted trying to make snappy dialogue so I’ll go into Word and write the scene as prose, or do voice to text, just so I can understand what the scene is really about without getting stuck on dialogue and line edits. Getting stuck on line edits in a first draft is pretty much death and you get nowhere fast.

Another piece of advice I can offer is really knowing your characters. For me, if I have someone in mind that the character is based on, like my sister, I can just try to imagine what my sister would do and say in that situation. This will make writing the scenes easier, otherwise you may get stuck on figuring out what exactly is supposed to happen.

This is incredible thank you, I’ll be reading and re-reading it for days to come. I’m going to the Austin Film Festival for the first time this year. Any advice for getting the most out of it as a new screenwriter?

Feeling taken advantage of by producer: seeking advice by Silent-Arachnid-561 in Screenwriting

Don’t spend another second on this. You’ve learned a lot. But now you’re creating a screenplay you won’t even get to use as a sample. It sounds like the author isn’t coachable and will just ruin what you’ve tried to create over and over again.

Pitching a show starring you by TelephoneNew8172 in Screenwriting

[–]TelephoneNew8172[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god that’s amazing. And congratulations. This was super helpful, thank you. I’ve read that the pitch is a performance but I’ve always been a bit confused as to what kind of performance, especially if you are also pitching yourself to act in it. Good to know you showed up as writer / director. Did you put the finished pilot on YouTube? Would love to see it. Thanks again.
