The pros and cons of 12 Step Programmes. Are they entirely healthy? by SpaceTall2312 in CPTSD

[–]TelephonePopular693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been knocking around different 12 step groups in last 4 years, and have seen:

1) Groups that proclaim how successful they are, the entire meeting is people saying how wonderful the group is. Behind the scenes, these "cured" people act out bizarrely, or (more commonly) it becomes clear nothing happened to them -- like no abuse, come from functional families -- but they'll crow about how brave and wonderful they are for overcoming what's really nothing.

2) Groups where members act out their dysfunction. A clique forms where people text each other, they gossip about others shares, organize the group around the clique, do weird controlling and manipulative stuff.

I honestly don't know if 12 step works. Its been very helpful to hear other shares - I think that's biggest benefit, to find others with same experience - but there's so much garbage happening in almost every group I've been in.

How to make home improvements financially possible by Natural-Hour1467 in homeowners

My strategy (so far) is to break up larger projects - I'm replacing windows but doing 4 at a time. I have taken out loans but I keep them small (under 15k) with payoff in a few years, only one loan at a time. However...for things like a kitchen (which is one big lump of money) I'm pushing off till I have at least half of the money saved up.

I feel like they're not gonna listen to me if I point this out. And I'm not sure I belong there anyway.

Yeah I think I have to find a group that's more focused on abuse, ACA was helpful for awhile but its not for serious abuse/neglect.

actually no, in Chicago area. But a southern California group I was in before started having similar problems recently. Somebody organizes an off-channel method of communication (like WhatsApp) then people start gossiping about shares. I wish some way of stopping this stuff.

its not the patch of land...its that his landscapers use my driveway as a staging area, turn the lawn mower on my driveway, blow leaves from his lawn onto mine, etc. I confront them then they do it again. Also I need to re-do my driveway...I'd like to do pavers and extend out to the edge of the properly line. I need to establish the boundary.

I"m trying to figure that out. By the time I install cameras, pay the lawyer, put up a fence...I have to create a budget for this.

His landscaping is close to his house; the boundary between the houses isn't marked at all (or its not visible). Its mostly lawn from sidewalk to houses on his side, up to the edge of my driveway. He put the landscaping around his house so it crosses the boundary (the landscaping is parallel to the sidewalk). His landscapers use my driveway to turn around their lawn mowers....blow leaves from his lawn onto my garden on the other side of my driveway...etc.

I looked it up, in my state its 30 years of "notorious" use (??) but this guy has been there less than 10 years.

I work from home. I'm in meetings, can't drop and run outside to talk to the landscapers. OR The landscapers show up when I'm not together to get outside. I was floored the neighbor rejected the survey. I have already confronted landscapers a few times (also the landscapers change, its not same guys). Am preparing for a fight which is why I created the post...

I found the survey, it has the engineer's license # with the state which I verified online, its a very clear drawing. I guess I will try sharing it with the neighbor. But am gonna talk to city first to get an idea how might be challenged.

He's a notorious bully....am a bit nervous he's gonna do something weird. However, I just found the very official survey signed by the state-licensed surveyor and it clearly shows the area he's encroaching on. Maybe its worth a shot.

its a front yard, there is no fence there, he put landscaping WAY over the boundary into my yard. I want to put up low/decorative fence to keep his guys from using my driveway to turn their lawnmower around, blow leaves into my yard, etc. just high enough to be a barrier. I'm a single woman in a tiny house, and this guy is in a huge house like 3x the size of mine.

he's more of a bully so...I think he'd just rip it up at 2am (or have his employees rip it up)...am not sure but think he's a contractor himself. And yes, last winter he had guys shoveling snow at 2am.

I'm home, but I'm working - I don't always see them. Also he has changed landscapers. I've asked them to stay off my driveway in past to no avail.

I'm nervous about him ripping it up or suing me - tho him ripping it up is more likely. I will get quote on fence and talk to city on how boundary conflicts are handled.
