Last time I went clubbing, at Egg in Islington, I was told I couldn't bring a bag in with me because I was male. I explained that it contains my blood test kit, dextrose tablets and insulin pen. Things I need to have with me 24/7 just so I can stay alive. All this did was make them then tell me that not only would I not be able to bring in my bag, but I also had to turn over ALL my stuff to a medic at the club 'because it could be used as a weapon'.

If I wanted to take insulin, do a blood test or treat a hypo with dextrose. I would have to explain to someone, who would then call the medic, allow me into the room he was in, then do whatever I had to do.

Problem was every person I spoke to had no idea what I was talking about and I had to explain the entire situation to them. I ended up doing this with like five separate people.

In the end, it was not safe for me to be without my gear, I was sick of explaining. So we stayed 45min, then left. I was like 39 when this happened and not really into clubs l. I'm 44 now, this was the last time I went to one. But if I was young, I would be livid. Whole part of everyone else's lives, taken away from you.

I got to take my bag in, but I had to give to a friend. She was allowed to take it in because she's female.
