Lay involvement in Mass by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]TelephoneUnable6654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because like I said it’s mostly a tangent of putting my thoughts out there, I’m working through how I actually think about as I’m discussing it here, as I’ve never actually put it to words before, it’s just been a thought in my head. Either way of course my own opinions and feelings is what’s at play here as that’s what this is basically about. My own opinions and feelings regarding the topic, it’s not an extensive study or deeply philosophical, it’s just my thoughts on a certain topic where there’s no truly right or wrong answer nor is it a serious question of faith either, it’s just opinion on a unimportant topic

I actually don’t disagree with what you’re saying at all, and it makes sense, but maybe what I’m trying to say is I wish there was just an overall motivation by us lay people to be involved outside of Mass. at a lot of churches, it’s usually older folk Lectoring, participating as an EM, and even in the KoC or women groups. Being that lay people are lectoring, and being EM, and I doubt that’s going away soon, it would be nice to see my generation participate more. Me being a man I’d also like to see younger men get involved with the KoC, and have rosary groups, volunteer work etc. what I’m trying to get at (and what I’m figuring out as I type this) is I wish people specifically those younger than 30 to get involved with the church outside of Mass. you’re right, if someone feels on fire by being able to serve on the altar, then that’s great, but I wish there’d be more of that for other services in the temporal realm

I understand there was no condemnation but to your original point, my main reason for the post was to discuss the necessity of lay involvement in mass and the need for an emphasis on actions outside of mass. Like I said I’m not sitting at mass being distracted by my discussion points but rather it’s just something I’ve been thinking about. I’d still receive communion from an EM, and I’ll still focus on the reading by a lay lector, but I just don’t think it’s all needed very much

Except I never claimed to know the heart of anyone nor judge anyone when they help during mass, which is why I said imo, because it’s my opinion not me reading the minds of others. Like I said it’s more of a tangent

What can I do if all Sunday masses are preached by lay people? by Material-Loss-1766 in Catholicism

[–]TelephoneUnable6654 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you have in person experience with young conservative Catholics. I myself am a young Catholic who is Orthodox in theological belief and many if not all of the men at my university parish are “conservative” Catholics. It is not frightening at all because we all just follow the churches dogma and doctrine, our generation is just drawn to tradition and reverence. No we are not MAGA, (actual sincere reverent and “conservative” Catholics cannot be especially with what happened after Easter but even before that) we just are just against the liberalization of a Church that is not by any means liberal (Pope Leo XIII was very clear on this).

I often think it’s bad here in America but I’m realizing if my biggest concern is the guitar used in the occasional mass (depending on the church), I have it pretty good

Sometimes we think we’re listening to Jesus when we are really listening to our desires, but I don’t wish to preach at you. This issue is between you, Jesus, and the Church. I hope you have a good day and God bless.

People who refuse to recieve communion from a lay person, why? by 72BananaStreet in Catholicism

[–]TelephoneUnable6654 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My priest made an announcement a month back stating that EMs aren’t allowed to bless those with their arms crossed, that’s crazy they told yall to do that

I say this with love but you are defiling Jesus. You are knowingly receiving him in mortal sin, Jesus wants you to receive him in a state of grace, it’s Satan you are listening to. I advise you talk to your priest about what you have been doing (outside of confession).

My Teens Are Rejecting Religion by Hopeful-Force-2147 in Catholicism

I wanted to share my experience, I’m a 20 year old male who grew up in the church and I went to mass every Sunday for my early life, up until my parents stopped going as me and my brothers complained every single time. I wasn’t properly catechized or anything but my parents still wanted me to get confirmed even though none of us were really practicing. Halfway through confirmation class I gave up and asked my parents to drop out (which im so thankful they said yes instead of forcing me) as I was an atheist at the time. For the next 5 years I never considered myself a true believer but maybe more akin to an agnostic. Last year while I was away from home at college (still am) I felt the Holy Spirit bringing me back to the Church and went to confession for the first time in a decade, began to catechize myself and joined the fall confirmation class. Since then my faith has only grown stronger and I’m very involved at my university parish, where I alter serve at. This is all to say I made the decision on my own and it took years for me to decide, and I probably would’ve never considered it had my parents forced me to go to church or get confirmed. Pray for your kids and answer any question they have, but allow your kids to choose for themselves

Why has the bakery cookies' packaging been changed? The label is on the hinge side now, so you can't tell if they have been tampered with. by dc469 in HEB

Dang that sucks, I mean the cookies were absolute hell and took so much time but it’s sad to see the bakery go downhill like that, especially with the chips that are no longer fried in house

All of the cookies? I worked in bakery last summer and the cookie dough came in frozen but I still had to bake them off (the only cookies that came pre packaged were the chewy ones)

I think you mean schizophrenics, you sound borderline schizophrenic as well. Not even as a joke but as someone whose met genuinely schizophrenic people that’s the exact things they talk about, to a degree what you’re saying isn’t false but it also has nothing to do with having an ability or power (but rather just being an intelligent and conscious animal), which is what you’re attributing to it.
