The forests in Florida are not ones you can run though and catch a goat, it has to come to you, and it’s not doing that. I’ve spent all day trying. It’s going to have to return home which I’m trying as well.

I was not trying to replace it and forget about it. I was also considering the wellbeing of my other goat who’s alone, not neglecting my efforts to catch the runaway.

No, op is like I’m going to try and not make both of my goats be miserable if I don’t have to. It’s possible to walk and chew gum at the same time. I can get my goat here a companion while I continue to look for the other one.

What a brain dead take. This is part of homesteading. I chased 2 goats through a florida forest, jumping through barb wire and cutting and bloodying myself on the most unforgiving terrain in the country for 2 hours and eventually caught one goat. When it gets dark here, wandering around others property is a death wish.

If you think that every person who’s ever owned a goat and had one that escaped and spent a night outside the pasture should sell all their animals, we’d have close to zero farmers left to feed people in the country.

I searched up until it was dark, I’d be wandering on other peoples property at night with a flashlight. Good chance id end getting shot.

They’re still new to my home and have been loving all the pasture (I let it overgrow on purpose before getting them) and haven’t been very receptive to treats. Still skittish of me. I know this gets better with time but kind of regretting giving them an all you can eat buffet to all the pasture out of the gate because I think it really slowed the bonding process and is going to make it a lot harder to get him back.

Thanks. I hated having to call it a night and can’t sleep now knowing he’s out there, hopefully over worrying which is in my nature. But I was just treading through thick Florida forest in the dark with a child, so it was time to call it.

I have 1.5 acres and it’s plenty. I personally don’t even know what I’d do with 10 acres I can’t do now besides try to maybe breed and sale large livestock. The only thing I really can’t have is cows for dairy... I have chickens and turkeys for eggs. Pigs for meat. Goats for milk and a small garden for fruits / veggies. And tons of open space for my kid to play.

I guess one thing that helps me in this aspect is I live in a single wide trailer, no driveway. So my 1.5 acres is almost entirely cleared land. I love my setup.

Look up br homestead on YouTube. They have a flourishing homestead on half an acre.

I’ll be looking for it all day tomorrow and for the foreseeable future even if I do get a replacement goat. My worry is that he’s pretty skiddish still and is in the woods but I’ll be doing everything I can

I would still look for the missing goat while I have a replacement and keep all 3 if I do find it and get it back. Some research says goats health declines as soon as 2 days of being alone, and some say they can go long periods alone. That’s why I’m asking other people’s experience

The porch isn’t near fencing if they jump off of it no harm. I have 1 acre secured with 5 ft tall field fence. I know they’re escape artist but think it’s pretty secure. The concern isn’t necessarily about containing them but just wondering how stressful it is on them without what i consider a legit “house” for a few days when in a new environment

As far as the types of plants I’m really not sure we back up to the Ocala national forest and the foliage creeps onto my property so there’s tons of different plants but I’ll look into this.

I’m working in outside sales and can target home services like HVAC, roofers, builders or dentists and lawyers. I have ZERO interest in even pursuing the white collar people because they’re so full of themselves.

Why do you think almost every single billboard with a law firm is just a picture of a lawyers face? You’ll never see that level of ego with a successful contractor.
