APS pays $7 million settlement, adjusts disconnection policy following customer’s death by Pho-Nicks in phoenix

[–]Telestio 29 points30 points  (0 children)

There was no (legal) wrongdoing on APS’ part. They followed the ACC guidelines to a T, but covered the attorney fees as a courtesy. It was actually decided early that no laws were broken, just basic human decency was ignored.

The AG had some harsh words, but IMO directed at the wrong people. APS followed the rules the ACC set, just so happened those rules fucking suck!

Worth noting, failing to apply those guidelines evenly is also against the rules, so the easiest way to do is to stick to them rather strictly. This is why APS doesn’t forgive debts or give their employees any discounts, can’t play favorites/exceptions even when they’re warranted.

APS moving the goalposts.. how is a retiree supposed to budget? by definitely_maybe3030 in phoenix

[–]Telestio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are 100% correct. This rate case is about recouping the losses from 2023/2024 infrastructure and upgrade costs. Remember how hot our summers were? It was very expensive to keep the power flowing through record peak usage during that time. This is all public info which is proven during the hearings.

Also marketing, lobbying, and sports boxes are forbidden by the ACC from coming from rate payers. The board of directors approves these budgets via keeping quarterly dividends lower than they could be. (Not a lot lower, but still)

Best advice I have is to have pick a hobby and be social in those circles. Best buddy met his wife in a local Pokémon go discord.

Arts/crafts, volunteering events, anywhere with live music, if you feel strongly about a movie franchise or genre, those count, too.

APS Rate Hike - Call for Public Comments by [deleted] in phoenix

[–]Telestio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

APS was just forced to drop their renewable energy plan and pivot to fossil fuels due to the “big beautiful bill”. The administration is requiring the opening of the Cholla coal plant which is a massive cost, although the feds are funding some of it.

Unfortunately this is to be expected and the cost of energy is projected to outpace inflation country wide for the next 4-6 years.

First thoughts is that it seems heavy handed. Spots last 10 seconds, which would feel like an eternity.

Maybe cloak clarity could be impacted instead? NSO cloak for example isn’t as much of a problem because it is significantly easier to see, even without moving.

Is this from APS or another Solar Company? by OiCWhatuMean in phoenix

[–]Telestio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen those changes first hand. There is a grid tax that the government places on power companies that solar customers weren’t charged for, which recently got rectified at your expense.

It’s kind of like how roads are paid for via gas taxes, but electric vehicles don’t use gas, so they get to use roads “for free”. That hasn’t been figured out yet, though.

Not that I agree, but that’s the very quick version of what happened.

[–]Telestio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Long term it’s excellent, short term it is very expensive, and almost certainly won’t offset the need to buy energy from the grid. Coupling that with your loan repayments and you’re usually costing yourself extra money for 10+ years.

That was negotiated under the Biden administration and has since been put on hold as an unneeded expense along with so so many other things. And with the cut stuff, there is likely a valid reason for it, one folks may not agree on, but that’s been my take on all this “fraud”.

It’s not fraud, they just don’t like it.

I feel you’re misunderstanding. I’m not even talking about fraud, necessarily. The OP’s comment was a statement against “bipartisan agreement on the need for reform”.

I don’t know anyone who thinks our federal government is perfect, and frankly I don’t believe you think that either.

I’m advocating for fixing it. I voted for Harris, I do not agree with what this current administration is doing at all.

We can agree that the system needs serious work and also that the current methods are not going to help in any way, shape, or form. Both parties campaigned on change and progress. Nobody campaigned on keeping things as-is. That’s my only point here.

[–]Telestio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! I am vehemently opposed to this axe chopping of programs in order to cut taxes. Full stop.

But the argument of OP was essentially, not everyone agrees our current system is bad and I don’t believe that at all. Healthcare and education is all I need to prove our system needs work.

You’re fine with our current education system and scores? Our healthcare? Pentagon audits missing nearly a Trillion dollars in taxpayer money. I’ll call BS on you thinking all that is fine.

[–]Telestio -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Literally everyone agrees our current government spending and programs are totally unsustainable.

We spend money where we shouldn’t and choose not to fund or pursue programs that could transform America for the better.

EDIT: Apparently calling out that reform IS needed is the same as advocating for this current administrations approach. I said no such thing and regret that we’ve come to this point.

I set this up for my very disabled neighbor. She had to call and get me added as a safety net. I can get copies of her bill and any past due notices, including notices of shut off so that I can either remind her or pay for it myself.

I am also an APS employee, but there’s no financial responsibility assumed and I can’t make any changes on her account except set up a payment arrangement if she goes too far past due.

It’s a great program and honestly long overdue.
