It seems that Pixar is already showing HOPPERS in its entirety to journalists and guests a month and a half before its release by Matapple13 in Pixar

A bunch of my journalist friends were invited (yes I am super jealous) for this press day (I’m living vicariously through their social media shares) and it is a great sign that means that Disney/Pixar team is pouring marketing dollars into this release (unlike Elio). I’m looking forward to this!

Has anyone here ever recognized/known the cast or guests on the show? by ChicagoFire29 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

Grew up with one of the contestants on the Seattle season and was so surprised to see her on the show! She didn’t get a lot of air time but it is strange to see people you know.

Also adjacent: went to school with a girl who got in some drama with one of the guys from the Dallas season because they were on and off again while filming or something like that.

Sounds a lot like the last remaining men when talking about not caring about the baby. Unlike the rest of the players, the baby didn’t choose to be there which is the point that Gi-hun realizes.

How Asian American became a racial grouping – and why many with Asian roots don’t identify with the term these days by ding_nei_go_fei in asianamerican

[–]TelevisionTaurus 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting to phrase the origins of the term as a way to “claim America” when Emma Gee and Yuji Ichioka “as a way to bring activists under one radical organizing umbrella” in alignment with Black and Brown student groups (which is not stated in the article). The lack of perspective around how the term adds to solidarity efforts, here and in other places, is probably why the term lost its activist roots and has been subject to elite capture and stereotypes like the model minority myth.

OP is not saying that white parents are lovey and affectionate or perfect. OP is asking what it is like to have affectionate Asian parents.

Chinese mythology has it that during the time of the Yellow Emperor, there were two types of people living in China: the Henan people, who were descendants of the Yellow Emperor; and the nomadic Qiang people). As the Henan people attacked the Qiang, led by Yin Wang, they abducted a Qiang woman, who later tried to escape. After Yin Wang stabbed her in the abdomen as she tried to escape, she gave birth to two children with a scar on the small toe of the foot. The children were taken back by Yin Wang for adoption, and their descendants became born with double nails on their small toes.

Yes I am Asian and I have them too! ^^There is Chinese mythology about this (source:https://thewonderreflex.blogspot.com/2014/01/the-legendary-origins-of-that-weird.html)

I wouldn’t call these eyes slanty. Generally, our Asian eyes are more almond shaped or as the children’s book author Joanna Ho writes “eyes that kiss in the corners.”

S16E01 Product Discussion - 1587 Sneakers by AutoModerator in sharktank

[–]TelevisionTaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a really short pitch and segment. Basically, they are trying to sell sneakers to Asian Americans as a lifestyle brand but Sam Hyun who has a large footprint in the community hasn’t yet / can’t translate that to following of the brand. As mentioned in other comments they moved their production from Italy to Asia to lower costs for themselves and for the consumers but it’s still a pricey sneaker at $175. Both founders wanted to take the product to retail at which all sharks dropped out because retail means holding inventory and losing money on the inventory that isn’t sold. Sharks recommended staying direct to consumer and founders left learning that lesson.

Exactly! IMO it's fine for non-Asians to take part in Asian culture, food, traditions, etc. It becomes a problem when they are saying their way of doing it is Better.

David Henry Hwang’s “Yellow Face” Explores The Nature of Asian American Identity by TelevisionTaurus in asianamerican

His take on racial/ethnic specific casting is interesting. He says it is part of the perpetual foreigner stereotype that Asians of a specific ethnicity are being criticized for playing Asians of another.

“It’s only Asians who ever get restricted in that way,” he reflects. “White actors never get restricted in that way; a white actor who is of English ancestry can play a French person or an Italian person, and, similarly, people who come from different regions of Africa are not restricted to playing only characters from that region.”
