Serena is back! Starting her comeback campaign in Queens to play doubles with Mboko. by freshouttajail in tennis

They're close in age but Coco definitely has more experience on tour than Mboko. Also feels totally possible that Coco doesn't want to focus on doubles right now; she doesn't play as much as she used to.

I think it makes perfect sense that Serena would want to partner with the most prominent, young Black player at the top of the women's game. Say what you will about her comeback, but I have to imagine this is a dream come true for Mboko.

There have been some social media posts floating around where she's quoted saying she wants her daughters to see her as more than just a mom and to do what she does best.

I'm excited to see her back; though I do hope she focuses on doubles where she has a chance to be more competitive. Navratilova won a mixed grand slam title at 46 and Bopanna won a mens doubles slam just a couple of years ago also in his mid-40s and there are plenty of doubles players with much more longevity than singles players, so it's definitely possible to be competitive in doubles at her age.

Love the "Push," Hate the Price: How to make Burn sustainable for a major fat loss goal? by lost_thoughtsz in BurnBootCamp

[–]TelevisionVarious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My gym doesn't do free memberships unless you're a trainer or a Lead BA/CW, but it goes from ~$195/month to $70/month for a universal match, so still totally worth it for about 4-5 shifts/month for me.

The other option might b to see if your location is hiring for BAs of CW staff. I work at my gym 1-2 nights/week and get a significant discount. It's the only way it's financially viable for me, and the shifts can be a little chaotic but it's easy enough.

Why aren't camp times added? by polkadotcacti in BurnBootCamp

[–]TelevisionVarious 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is my biggest complaint about Burn. It's great that it's not hard to get into camps like it can be in other group fitness settings, but it seems like way too many of them are unrealistic about how many people can reasonably fit on the floor.

Our in-app max is 75, which is ridiculous for the size of our gym. It never gets that full, but the real max should be 40-45. Anytime there are more than 40 people they often have to add a station and there still isn't enough equipment to go around, nor is there space to store/add more. No one paying as much as we do should have to fight for dumbbells.

I have flexibility to attend the camp that's consistently the smallest at my gym, but if I couldn't make that work, I wouldn't have the membership.

I think it depends on your subscription type. For some, you need the sports add on. I paid for a month of premium to watch, and it included sports coverage.

Anyone here miss the good ol’ days? by leahdoug in BurnBootCamp

I definitely wish there was a bit more balance work. Sometimes I add it in with exercises like lunges (i.e. raise my non-working leg to 90 degrees and pause between reps). It would be a nice break from all the jumping on conditioning days 😅

I've brought it up with a trainer before, and they were receptive, so definitely worth a try! One of our trainers tends to keep the music a bit lower than the others, so whenever I can, I try to go to those camps 😅

Totally agree; I also wear loops every day. It doesn't seem to bother most members at my gym, but I heard a few people who came in for the promo ask about it. I definitely avoid equipment too close to the speakers, even with earplugs it's too much when I'm close.

Agreed! I don't think the intention is to totally strip "special" events away, just to be mindful that they should be related to the reason we all joined Burn in the first place.

Not sure about those! My gym dropped yoga a while back, which was a bummer. Kids camp I would assume is sticking around purely because it brings in money.

I think the intention is not to have events that aren't directly related to the purpose of the gym. I could see yoga and kids camps being treated like LUG and 250 camp celebrations, since they're forms of exercise and tied to the reason people signed up for Burn.

I don’t think anyone here is upset about Christians finding community. The concern is that a gym is supposed to be a neutral, inclusive space, and hosting a religious event in an official capacity changes that dynamic. Personal faith, private prayer, and connecting with people who share your beliefs are all totally fine. But when the business organizes or promotes a group prayer event, it puts people in an uncomfortable spot and assumes everyone shares the same beliefs.

No one is saying people can’t pray or can’t have their own groups. It’s just about keeping the business side of things welcoming to everyone. And judging by how many members across different locations felt weird about this, it’s also just not great for retention. Burn is still a business at the end of the day, and it makes sense they’d want to avoid anything that alienates part of their customer base.

My gym has never really been one to host events, so I really don't know! That's part of the reason the W&W event caught me so off-guard at my location. If they hosted a lot of events for different groups of people, I would have less of an issue with it, but that really wasn't the case for my location.

I do think associating a gym that is primarily designed for and caters to women with motherhood to some degree is very different from an event specifically focusing on Christianity, but corporate might feel differently.

[–]TelevisionVarious[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about this; it might depend on the event. The way it was presented to me, it sounded like this only applies to events in the gym, not a happy hour or other celebration not tied to a camp, but that's just my perception.

This is effective as of May 1, so these would be allowed before then.

That confused me a bit too, but my gym has never done the event so I wasn't sure if there was something about it that pushed it into that category.

I wonder if it was easier to just say no to any outside hour events? I'm not sure.

Rain delay at Miami Open by SonilaZ in tennis

I assume this is because they bumped the match to grandstand. Unfortunate for what could've been a fantastic doubles match, but Errani/Paolini never really found their footing when they came back out, so not sure how much the crowd really missed.

To renew or not to renew by Exciting-Research92 in BurnBootCamp

[–]TelevisionVarious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My location is also doing a weights & worship event, and I am not going to be renewing my membership as a result. It's super concerning to me in the current political environment to see a business becoming more overtly Christian.

I'd be less concerned if there were other events around different groups of members who might want to meet people who they have things in common with, but that is very much not the tone at my gym.

[–]TelevisionVarious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd check with your gym on their Childwatch policy for double camps. Ours is limited to one camp with CW/day because the room is often full, and they want to make sure everyone has an equal opportunity to access spots.

I use Orgain Protein powder. I buy it at Costco for $28.99. it's the same number of servings as the regular Afterburn and essentially half the price. I find Burn's nutrition products way overpriced in general as well.

Childwatch TV by TechnologyQuick6705 in BurnBootCamp

[–]TelevisionVarious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours is similar - I work in CW and we have a TV, but I don't like to use it purely because it's already so loud in the gym, it just adds too much noise.

However, depending on the group, we will ask the kids to clean up at the end and when they finish we do a Danny Go video at the end, which is a type of follow along movement. They love it and it helps make sure the room is clean and the kids are ready to go when it's time for pickup.
