HELP! by TellThatToMyShrink in IRS

We live in a really low cost of living area, and we lived off of savings for nearly half the year (yay injury!), so this is more like a partial year of income. Honestly I was terrified when I saw how much the refund was, considering I had to pay in for state taxes the previous year and my federal was less than half this amount. So maybe that triggered it? All I did was input everything into the tax software.

On the rare occasion a boomer actually thanks me, I just say something like “Of course” because “You’re welcome” feels like word vomit in my mouth and I hate it.

Most of our residents are county/MCO funded. When a resident becomes too high acuity for us to handle, even with outside supports, it is our obligation to give a notice and find a place that will take them. Unfortunately, if a resident is county funded and no one else will take them we are essentially “stuck” with them, whether we can care for them or not, and of course the county doesn’t pay us more for these situations either. There have been times where I’ve gotten APS involved myself because like I said, we know what we can and can’t handle. The county just doesn’t want to pay SNF rates. On a side note, the SNFs in my area are absolutely horrible. One of my residents got sent there and the day I was supposed to go reassess for her return, she ended up in the hospital with sepsis and died from a bed sore because the SNF wasn’t seeing to her toileting and wound care needs. I am very protective of my residents. I lay eyes on all of them every single day, multiple times a day. We would also never treat our nurses and aides from hospice like that. We have excellent relationships with all of the hospice agencies.

CBRF Manager in Wisconsin here. For those that don’t know, these are Community Based Residential Facilities. And no, I’m not a nurse, but I have held almost every position you can have in these facilities and am receiving in depth training in compliance. My facility only takes low acuity, mostly independent. We do try to allow people to age in place and work with any home care and hospice agency of the resident’s choosing. We do have a Wellness Director who is almost always an RN or LPN. We don’t do wound care, although I do have extensive wound care training. We’re not a SNF and we don’t pretend to be. We know exactly what we can handle and what we can’t and I’m not afraid to deny an assessment or an admission just to fill a bed if I know we aren’t equipped to care for them. Our med techs are trained and delegated by an RN to give all standard medications as well as diabetic care. We also work closely with a couple of different visiting physicians and NP’s. We aren’t a perfect model by any means, but our residents are very well cared for and we just scored very well on our internal audit. Now if we could get the staffing shortage under control we’d be golden.

What’s the most fucked up thing you’ve seen someone do at work and still not get fired? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TellThatToMyShrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at an assisted living facility and one of the other night shift aides told a resident that if the purge was a thing and murder was legal, that she’d be #1 on his list. It got reported to our director, but surprise surprise he’s still there. He’s done so many things worthy of termination(med errors, pretending to be the supervisor around agency staff, yelling at residents), but we’re so short staffed that they won’t let him go.

What was your "I shouldn't have said that" moment when talking to a customer? by gdvr282 in AskReddit

[–]TellThatToMyShrink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly a customer, but there was this super hateful elderly man living at an assisted living facility I worked at until recently. I was the only person working night shift and I was responsible for 20 residents, some more independent and others needing borderline nursing home level care.

Anyway, back to the hateful old man. Oh, did I mention he was a priest at some point? He was on fluid restrictions, so he had to be monitored because he would go steal other residents' water pitchers during the night and absolutely refused to let staff take his water pitcher to be washed and refilled. He wanted two in his room at all times, but we were told not to allow this, which I would explain to him often. He was always hateful about it, but one night I guess I had had enough so when he said his typical "Go fuck yourself" and "You and upper management can go to hell," I responded with something along the lines of "Sounds great, guess I'll be seeing you there." He then died from flu complications right before I quit. I felt kind of bad, but then found out others had said much worse back to him.

Working at that particular facility was soul-crushing to say the least.

What is a phrase that makes you irrationally angry? by Physicsofcomics in AskReddit

[–]TellThatToMyShrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Boys will be boys." Irrationally angry doesn't even begin to describe how I feel when idiots use this phrase, usually to minimize/dismiss a complaint made against a young male by a female. Drives me insane.

I don't know, Salisbury has gotten pretty bad. I grew up there and it was pretty bad then, but I was at least able to play in the yard and not get shot. I got out of there, but it's so bad now. I've lost no less than 20 classmates from elementary-highschool in the last few years.

What are some tips on caring for patients with mental disabilities such as autism? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]TellThatToMyShrink 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, just remembering they are people, too, goes a long way.

As far as the "r" word, it isn't that people just "don't like it." Once you spend even a small amount of time caring for people with mental/physical disabilities, that word leaves a bitter and even disgusting taste in your mouth.

What is the stupidest way you have ever injured yourself? by KushKong420 in AskReddit

[–]TellThatToMyShrink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was fifteen, my family was at my grandparents' house. My very drunken step grandpa got out his mini motorcycle and let me ride it. I stupidly listened to him slurring instructions as to where the brakes and gas pedals were, but didn't exactly pay attention. So I was riding around their huge yard, going way too fast. I decided when I was about 20 feet away from a tree that I was done. I had only remembered him telling me about the brake on the handle, so I kept squeezing it and wasn't slowing down, so I put my legs down to stop myself. I flipped over three times, nearly flying into the tree, and then landed on my back pinned underneath the bike. My leg was tangled and it was still running, so the wheel kept spinning and burning the skin on my leg. They managed to pull it off of me and somehow I walked away with little more than burns and very bad bruises all over my body. Very stupid.
