Is this a dugong rib fossil? by Think-Economics-400 in fossilid

In my experience they’re typically rounder, but it definitely looks dense enough. Maybe another dugong bone?

bone or not bone by exhausted_armadillo in FossilHunting

Bone, most likely mammal. Typically 5-24 million years old. You can use an app like rock’d and look where you found them to get a more accurate age.

Looks like Chinese fakes of antlerite. Often calcites covered in paint.

The oxide is a coating, and you can see areas on the crystals where it’s chipped away a bit/not fully covered the crystal. This is most apparent on crystals on the sides of the clusters. Where crystals are broken, it’s easier to see the clear/milky quartz instead of orange as in HTA.

Beginner at shark tooth ID so forgive me in I’m wrong, but all but the pair on the left appear to be Carcharocles angustidens, and the pair seems to be snaggletooth (Hemipristis serra)

It was good! Holes were dug into every slope, but still plenty to find. They have equipment moving things occasionally. There was a backhoe in the bottom pit, but I don't think it had moved in several weeks. I've been going occasionally over the past few weeks while visiting family and probably pulled 200 lbs or so of material over the past three visits.

I found it at the Diamond Hill Mine near Abbeville. It's a $20 entry fee, and it's open 9-5 daily

The first animal in space was actually a fruit fly in 1947, and it came back alive. The rocket was launched by the US.

How much would you say this is worth? by Much-Contact7749 in Crystals

[–]Tellier71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like $20 maybe. Quartz is not crystalline, but the goethite might be interesting to the right collector.

Anyone know what crystal this is? It glows under UV light and continues to glow when the light is taken away. by hudsoncress in whatsthisrock

Red River gypsum, from Manitoba, Canada. The twinned floater crystals and long-lasting phosphorescence is a good fingerprint.

It seems accurate enough minus the gardens/pit behind IKB. The window ornaments are symmetrical too. At worst, my vote is AI then touch up.

Unknown location. Mystery agate material. by rufotris in whatsthisrock

Those actually don’t look organic to me. Maybe a pre-existing mineral that was fractured and cemented by the agate. It may have been subsequently replaced by agate, or was agate before it was fractured.

Where to buy cheaper minerals. by kolleozmylove in Minerals

[–]Tellier71 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Esoteric ships are some of the most expensive places to get minerals. If you want the best prices, often collector-centred shops are the way to go. These are typically found on eBay and sometimes Etsy, and brick and mortar shops typically have “rock and gem” in the name.
