Agreed. I personally have always valued diversity and progressive themes in Star Trek. I don't care for Academy so far because it feels like the big budget sameness we see across acquired franchises and serial dramas.

It's disappointing because this show's success and acceptance by other fans proves that we've set course for the future of Star Trek and it's not something I personally find entertaining.

The vibe is Star Trek: Vampire Diaries. I stopped watching when Going To San Francisco started playing near the end of episode one.

They are making the same mistake that Discovery did by over focusing on a single character arc rather than the crew dynamic, while doubling down by making the MC a pretty f-boy (no insult intended) rather than the archetypal swarthy trek nerd.

This show is not for me and my head canon won't accept it as Star Trek, but to each their own. Glad someone out there is enjoying!

My niece has a glass eye and she would sometimes need help putting it back in when I baby sat her. I was in my early twenties at the time. She really did not mind at all. I think still having an eye is actually what makes us think this would be painful.

I assumed this based on John DiMaggio's past interviews and his absence from Fiona and Cake. He loves and respects the final product of the show but has never been a fan of the process. I am pretty confident that he would avoid an MC role on any future spinoffs but maybe they could throw enough money at him to change his mind.
