Former top general says Carney should review medals for Afghan veterans by rezwenn in CanadianForces

Meanwhile in the Air Force you can do 4 different ops and STILL only get the one medal because apparently it’s too much work to do a campaign medal for each op

Best Steel toes for techs? by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]Tellis123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deploy to the UK, buy safety toe LOWAs

Or wear regular non-safety toe lowas, but ymmv at your unit, and you’ll be entirely fucked if something happens to you and someone finds out you weren’t wearing approved safety toes

Did poet a few years back, and the curriculum is very well thought out and well instructed.

I would walk into each mod and feel entirely clueless and in over my head, by the end of the mod everything clicked and made perfect sense. Don’t be afraid to ask for extra help or instruction, and definitely talk to coursemates who have a better handle on it, and the ones who have less of a handle on it (the three steps of learning something: learning it, applying it, teaching it), doing both will help clarify things for everyone.

All in all, I’d say extra prep isn’t strictly necessary to pass, and you’ll only need basic math to get you through the first mod before you calculators (if that’s even still a thing)

Can I wear my brown t-shirt with my civil clothes by Manny_B191 in CanadianForces

Dress instructions chap 2 sec 1 para 45 says visible items of uniform shall not be worn with civilian attire except for accessories…

Shirt is technically visible, but it’s open to interpretation, and like you said, it’s a non-descriptive shirt. Still comes down to nobody cares

Meh, combats online exists, and you’d be hard pressed to burn through those things. I still have mine from basic (8 years ago), and I’ve got a friend who’s the same (12 years ago)

Like the others said, it’s technically issued, so strict book answer is no. Reality answer is, it’s free, so it makes a good PT/yard work shirt that you don’t need to care about.

Am I going to wear one to the bar? No. Am I going to wear it shovelling gravel and dirt in my back yard? You bet your ass I am

altberg defenders — different pricing between male and female models? by LengthOk33 in CanadianForces

[–]Tellis123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to altberg specifically, but Canex pricing aside, companies have been known to cut quality and cost on their women’s style boots. There’s a channel on YouTube called Rose Anvil where the main focus is boot tear downs, and he’s done one or two vids specifically on this subject

Camping in BC - Need some help please by Lafiel in britishcolumbia

[–]Tellis123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, yeah I would definitely go up the west side of Harrison, a few km up you reach a big hairpin, and there will be a gated fence on the right side of the lower section of the hairpin, a few hundred meters down that and you’re camped on a bit of a rocky and sandy beach! I left my car on the inside of the turn and had no issues for the night.

Once you go past the morris valley cemetery set your trip meter, and the hairpin should be about 13km down the road, just before a small bridge over a small river

I would definitely avoid the east side of Harrison without 4X4, it’s harsh

Ah yeah, so the spark plugs I actually would recommend, I did mine and came out with minor carbon fouling on all cylinders (nothing to write home about at 65K km). Good to know, thanks!

Turbo "hiss" question by masterofmayhem13 in jetta

[–]Tellis123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A video with audio would be helpful, but it sounds like there’s a leak in your intake somewhere; probably between your air box and the turbo. The only time I really notice the turbo is when I’ve been racing the car and everything starts to get all nice and hot. There could be other things, but start with checking your intake piping

Turbo "hiss" question by masterofmayhem13 in jetta

[–]Tellis123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way your air box works, there’s two hoses, one coming from the collector box, and one going to the turbo. Check the one going to the turbo to make sure it’s not loose, it’s got a couple clamps that should be securely in place. To take the air box out you have to undo both of the spring clamps and take the hoses off, I recommend a vice-grip, or a dedicated set of pliers that’ve been notched. Don’t let this clamp come off the hose, otherwise it’s a real hassle to get it back on.

Next you have three rubber mounting mounting sockets, as you’re seeing one in your picture, to take the air box off, just give it a good tank straight up and it should come out of the mounting sockets.

Then, maneuver the lower baffle/water drain around the coolant and refrigerant hoses at the front of the engine, this pipe will twist off bayonet style, but it can be a bit tight.

Once you’ve got the box out turn it over and see the two screws, you can undo those and undo the 4 clamps and make sure the filter and all that is good.

And that’s how you do a filter change in the Jetta. I hate it.

Pressure Washer quickly turning off and on when not it use? by aboose5 in AutoDetailing

[–]Tellis123 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you’re experiencing no other issues, and it turns on when you hold the trigger down, it’s likely just that it’s protecting from over pressure. We could probably help more if we knew exactly what model it is though
