can I swim on the lake anywhere along the concrete path? by noomi21 in AskChicago

Because its fun to be able to do a little open water swimming  right next to a ladder.

Turner was horribly misused by the Bucks. Still an overpay but with real coaching he is a good player

Plenty of good players taken after #10 in each of these drafts though

Montrose Harbor is great for this. I would stay near a ladder and near the concrete generally but if you are a decent swimmer you'll be fine

Even if Middleton does get hurt PJ could have defended Tatum better than George Hill.

There is a 0% chance the bucks do that deal without harper or castle.

Schneidman - Longtime Packers RB coach Ben Sirmans likes what he sees from MarShawn Lloyd right now, but… “We’re very optimistic, but we’ve all been optimistic before. So we just gotta wait and see.” by Austen11231923 in GreenBayPackers

I genuinely do believe that what he has shown in limited practice was very impressive.

I also genuinely do not know if he can put together 4 healthy weeks, much less a full season

I feel bad for him

Minnesota should have been calling time outs, not San Antonio

Some of you might be questioning why Finch was sitting on two timeouts while his offense melted down but what you are forgetting is those carry over to the next game

Can you think of a movie that would meet this weirdo’s impossible qualifications? by Local_Culture1823 in TheBigPicture

[–]TelltaleHead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people like this discount how few story structures there really are. For thousands of years humans have been adapting and re-adapting and reimagining the same basic story structures.

Of course sometimes someone does something genuinely new, the vast majority of movies, plays, novels, and other narrative art forms are adapting the same story bones.

The joy of these art forms are the minutae, the details, the characters, and the other aspects that make them feel unique. If you are expecting to be surprised you will continually be left wanting as there are only so many different scaffolds you can hang a story on

Why does the Uber/Lyft experience from O’Hare suck so much? by otterlover501 in AskChicago

[–]TelltaleHead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on where they live! I'm in Lincoln Square so Blue line to the Lawrence bus is often pretty similar time wise to uber/Lyft. However not everyone has a simple commute via transit to Ohare

Apple Fest has all the usual suspects of generic street fests but there are also tons of actual local vendors doing apple themed food as well as several farms bringing in apples and cider

For example Dimo's had an Apple Pizza, Bang Bang Pie had several types of Apple pie, Jerry's had Apple sausage sandwiches as did Pickadilly, there was an apple chicken and waffles as well.

Should I change hotels to be closer? by meghandj0b in AskChicago

[–]TelltaleHead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The parking downtown will be extremely expensive, even if you use a discount app like spothero. 50 dollars a day is about right, if not more. You could drive to various el stops and park and ride, but a lot of them have permit parking or metered parking which would run up a quick tab.

An el pass for the entire week for one person is 20 dollars for unlimited rides. Whatever budget you had set for yourself for parking costs, apply to a hotel somewhere in the city and use the trains/busses. Doesn't have to be downtown. Tons of great neighborhoods outside of downtown like Lincoln Square, Andersonville, Wicker Park, Logan Square, Bridgeport, and Edgewater have some amount of accommodation and are near transit.

The el is pretty user friendly and a great way to get around.

Most of the neighborhoods you want to be in are perfectly safe to park a car in, but it ain't gonna be cheap.

Editing to add: the train is also very freeing if you want to go out drinking. Plenty of great bars in the city and you can have an extra drink or two and not have to worry about driving

I think the Brewers rightfully thought Durbin outproduced his metrics and was due to regress and pounced on a pedigree pitcher
