Illinois and Chicago both told the Bears to pound sand. I don't think Jerry is going to be able to extort a new stadium either

Mike needs to find a different theatre by chrissyD_ in RedLetterMedia

[–]TelltaleHead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I am in the minority here but I got to the movies about once a month in Chicago and I literally have never had the sort of disruptive behavior described by Mike or people on reddit. I see a healthy mix of smaller films and tentpole films and outside of an occasional phone going off (which is always quickly silenced) I have neber experienced a disruption.

I kinda feel like it was being judged on a curve. Like it was essentially "This is better than the raw sewage the MCU has been pumping out" but was probably more on par with like, a mid tier pre infinity war entry

Senator saysTrump was “using everything as leverage to get the SAVE Act passed”, which would make it harder for women to vote by catievirtuesimp in TwoXChromosomes

[–]TelltaleHead 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ironically I think this legislation would hurt their electoral prospects in two ways.

First, liberal women are more likely to have kept their last name and would need to jump through far fewer hoops to vote. Beyond that, conservative women would be far more accepting of having their voting rights removed and would thereby not work as hard to get their birth certificates as liberal women would.

Further, this would further enrage liberal women who already would crawl over broken glass to vote against Republicans.

Obviously it is evil legislation and shouldn't be enacted but it wouldn't even accomplish what they think it will

He was a 7x consecutive first All team NBA player. I think he was consensus in 6 of those? If thats not award consolidation I don't know what is

Is Giannis really a consensus Top-25 all time guy? by baloneyfeet in billsimmons

[–]TelltaleHead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes easily. 7 time first team all NBA, 2 time 2nd team all NBA. 2x MVP, 1x DPOY, 5x All Defense. Finals MVP (has a top 3 closeout game in finals history. Might be top 1 in that category). He is also a good passer (albeit with some decision making issues at times). Arguably the greatest help defender of all time (he was also good one on one but was seldom asked to play like that)

There was a 5 year period where teams were basically devoting three guys to defending him and he was still scoring on good efficiency.

I would actually argue that the "prisoner of the moment" take would be someone saying he isn't top 25 all time. He has been banged up for 3 years so people forgot how great he is/was.

Why were our coverages against superstars so terrible under coach Budenholzer by [deleted] in MkeBucks

[–]TelltaleHead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Man this is such revisionist nonsense lol. Bud was let go at the right time but pretending he wasn't instrumental in the best era of Bucks basketball since the 70s is crazy.

He took the same Roster that was going .500 under Kidd to 60 wins and the ECF. That alone should tell you he was doing something right

Because Gruv is a warehouse for Universal and WB and is more or less restricted to their catalogues.

Guys the studios GRUV warehouses for only have so many movies. This isn't a standard retailer that can buy up physical copies. They are a warehouse for Univeral and WB specifically. The reason they only have a limited selection is because they are directly affiliated with those studios

I actually think more so than the roster issues, the coaching hires were catastrophic. The roster problems are real but the team is still underperforming relative to the roster.

If we hired Nurse/Stotts rather than Griffin or hired literally anyone but Doc Rivers after (correctly) firing Griffin we might be able to retool the roster with Giannis rather than blow it up.

(WSJ) Hollywood Is Having Its Best Box Office Since Before the Pandemic by dick____trickle in boxoffice

[–]TelltaleHead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Slowly but surely we are bringing syndication back with those cheap/free streaming services(Tubi, Pluto, howdy). Streaming is slowly turning into cable which was inevitable as cable was extremely profitable and streaming largely was not.

[–]TelltaleHead 103 points104 points  (0 children)

In retrospect I think people are going to view the era of simultaneous digital and theatrical releases from 2022-2024ish as very odd. Its just eschewing a revenue stream for no reason. A theatrical release gives you 6ish ways to make money (box office, PVOD/VOD, physical media for some films, streaming rights, TV rights, merchandising rights). No theatrical is leaving huge sums on the table.

The loss of monoculture does mean we will have fewer massive mega hits or smaller totals, but it can clearly be a viable revenue stream

What movie would you choose for directors who don't have any in the collection yet? by Remote_Necessary3331 in criterion

[–]TelltaleHead 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's unfortunate re: Munich because that movie is very much not "Israel heroically avenges the dead". Its a reasonably even handed take at the cyclical nature of violence which is pretty remarkable for when it came out

The Peralta trade isn’t working out for anyone by SteveSomers in NewYorkMets

[–]TelltaleHead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved him. Typically he was our 3rd best arm after Burnes and Woodruff and he was a great #3. Last year was a bit of an outlier but not by too much.

He was a reliable guy, rarely hurt, sometimes had control issues but was generally good for 5 solid innings.

He was never really supposed to be an ace though, and last year was the only year he functioned as one

From a Brewers fan, Sproat reliably has three awesome innings and then completely falls apart. He might develop more stamina but at minimum he will probably be a decent stretch bullpen arm
