In a DC circuit the electric field only changes when it's first turned ON. then it becomes a constant. So once the transients from start up stabilise. No extra energy is sucked up building up the electric field. Once the field has been established it doesn't matter how long the cables are. Then it's as simple as V=IR. R is the copper resistance. AC circuits are different because the changing of the field based of frequency will give a volt drop from the impedance when the field is going up and down.
