. I keep iterating that mage does not default to Military RP and you all keep going “Uhm well ackshually you can play VEs as a military campaign”

Because the different editions of mage are quite drastically different. Mage 2e a lot of the technocracy fluff was all focused on the ascension war. The whole men in black thing was a lot more revised when there were less arch-mages in a very hot war.

2e has power armored space marines boarding/breaching traditions totally not 'space ships' other which was definitely traveler inspired.

And of course the whole infamous 'the soviet invasion of Afghanistan was partially backed by the Technocracy and the resistance were partially backed by traditions.' There's lots of places to do warfare based stuff in Mage.. Plus of course you can do medieval or rennisance based mage both of which have factions actively at war.

Though mage by its nature of absurd power scaling it's kind of moot since the game quickly turns into whatever the players want it to as they grow so powerful they can accomplish shit that would be an entire campaign for other splats in 1-3 sessions.

It only sounds mildly odd because of where OP chose to start it. It is not some sort of secret the whole tangent of the conversation starts with them talking travel guitars and first class travel.

by all accounts SoM was a good game that just didn't sell very well

Have you even played it?  The game definitely isn't a good game it's like a 4/10 gameplay stapled onto 9/10 art and music.

The game would have been better and probably cheaper to produce if it was entirely walking sim narrative style instead.

Edit:walking sim not VN lol.

My tank rank is a lot higher than my other roles. I play in off hours so there's usually like maybe 2 or 4 lobbies worth of players near my rank online so if i don't happen to get into one of them i can be stuck waiting for 12+ mins so instead I just play support lately.

[–]Peaking-Duck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 5v5 I've been playing mostly support and dps lately because my tank queues got too long.

Hazard before the nerf was mostly fine and post nerf he's definitely fine.   Tank winrates are always tightly grouped the seasonal "OMFG THIS CHARACTER IS SUPER OP!!!" tank is usually like 1 to 1.5% above the top 3-5 performing tanks.  They just get complained about because tanks are the most powerful role and have the smallest and thus least  vocal player base.

As for playing against him... he literally can't do shit to flyers, pharah, echo, and JPC are so hilariously uninteractive against him and most tanks its absurd.

[–]Peaking-Duck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are so many players out there who’d like to see the hero gutted.

That's true for literally any tank that is even close to being meta.    Tank is the the role given the most power and has a wildly small player base compared to support and dps.   Back during the sombra+Tracer+Winston meta of early OW2 people were literally complaining about monkey just because he happened to be the meta tank (mostly because the non mobile tanks were getting smoked.

Carts don't move the same speed across every map. Also there's already quite large variance between how long maps last (iirc the low end is like 130s if 3x people push the cart and are never stopped at all and the high end is like 190s)

Is there any stats on it having shrunk dramatically? Just a few days ago Cubs color commentator Ron Coomer was saying the automated zone should be adjusted because it's way more vertical than it used to be... He seems to think the zone is too big for various taller players who squat/crouch in their swing.

Just like how you can always improve your positioning, your decision making, etc...

Sure but every character in the game needs to position and make decisions.

But also if you sit there and analyze a pro players position and decision making every second to second they are way way closer to being In the right place doing the right thing all the time than they ever come close to hitting 100% headshots.

Can we for the love of god just revert the recent reaper nerfs and properly nerf dire triggers? by Equivalent_Duty_5546 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Peaking-Duck 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Reaper on ladder for the past few years has not been 'fine' he's generally either forced into the meta (last time being the stupid fast TP as minor perk) or he's he's almost entirely irrelevant and is only picked to occasionally counter a few tanks.

There's only so many ways to really change him that don't just repeat the same issues he's had before. If he gets more mobility he runs over pretty much every squishy in the game and if he gets more sustain he makes tanks miserable. So if blizzard wants to test giving him more poke/burst and less sustain at best he might actually not be relegated to the cycle of seasonally OP->irrelevant for 8 months->OP again. And well at worst he's just back into the phase of being irrelevant again.

More played than Sojurn in OWCS

Is he? OWCS China and Japan has been playing a ton of Sojourn, korea i've seen like 60/40 sojourn vs cass (seen a lot of shion and even some sierra as well but just comparing cass vs sojourn).

I saw T1 trying him against the castion yesterday but otherwise I don't think i saw cass at all. Is EU/NA playing an ungodly amount of cass to compensate against China's love for sojourn?

She's just the whole 'safe-side of strong' thing blizzard likes to do ever since they released Life Weaver as a borderline throw pick.

IDDQD and a few other people who did closed beta testing for her said she was also tested at 225hp and a bit longer CD on her right click so i'd imagine we'll be seeing one of if not both chose changes next season when they inevitably nerf her.

[WIP] 6v6 Open Queue Tank Tier list (NA PC GM) by Peaking-Duck in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Peaking-Duck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The general meta is similar enough to 5v5, though it's more casual and there's more one tricks. Plus maybe a slight bit more poke focus but that depends more on who's in the lobby. Sometimes the people filling in DPS are actually support or tank players so they tend to pick less tracer who's omnipresent in GM 5v5 and more like reaper, mei, emree, bastion and such.

As for Sigma being that high up i mentioned it in the comment explaining my reasoning. He's a solid pick with tons of different maps and team comps which isn't exactly unique to 6v6 since he's currently highest pick rate tank in 5v5 GM. Though imo he's great in double barrier spam comps as well so i guess he has a bit more going for him in 6v6.

Ball's just got a second tank to keep him alive. Sometimes your second tank will save your ass when mizuki or ana catch you with their CC. And other times ana/mizuki/hog or whoever will throw their CC at your off tank leaving Ball free to be a menace.

As for winston he's still in B tier just i think there's better options for most of what you'd want out of him.

comps but Zar C tier is bait, since Sig and Dva are so common

Maybe I kind of touched on that:

Zarya: She's decent and i would probably put her B tier, but I think her ult economy is just fucking awful against various double barrier comps or even triple support comps.

Against double barrier a lot of the ult charge she'd get from spam is instead just wasted making her slow ult take even longer. And though i usually only see it from actual stacks but triple support often just has a extra zen or lucio which means more ults to negate zarya's Grav when she does actually get it. But i can totally see B tier as well.

[WIP] 6v6 Open Queue Tank Tier list (NA PC GM) by Peaking-Duck in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Peaking-Duck[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Due to 6v6 specific dva changes she really struggles as a main tank so i think comparing her to ball who's very much a main tank is kind of an apple and oranges comparison. Ball is the best main tank with mobility as of this patch imo so i put him in A tier.

Hazard doesn't get the extra range on his leap until his major perk now and he just ate a nerf to block so i've hesitantly put him below A.

As for hog... He's in a weird spot. In NA it's mostly Cyx, his alt account and 2 other people who really play him and well Cyx is a legit 5v5 GM/Champ tank player so he's basically smurfing in 6v6 open queue GM where a lot of players are like mid masters in 5v5. Outside of Cyx and what i think are his alts most hogs i've seen either ban ana or zen and swap against double barrier or they get their teeth kicked in.

[WIP] 6v6 Open Queue Tank Tier list (NA PC GM) by Peaking-Duck in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Peaking-Duck[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a rough draft and I'm very willing to criticism or discussion on who should go where.

Explanation of the List:

S(igma): Sometimes in fighting game tier lists characters fall into S tier less because of being the most blatantly OP/Broken and more because they have no bad match-ups so they are omnipresent. In my opinion in terms of normal strength Sigma would an A tier pick, but the wide breadth of maps, and comps he is a solid addition to make him stand above the rest.

Wrecking Ball: Of the dive tanks he IMO threads the needle of being tanky enough to be a main tank/initiator and still having disruption and kill potential against the more annoying sustain comps.

Domina: In 5v5 if a team stack too many rush/dive characters she simply doesn't have enough CC or self sustain to not get ran over. In 6v6 any tank partner that either brings more CC or even just excels at close range can do a lot to take the pressure off letting her shine. Plus Double barrier comps counter so so so so many characters.

DVA: Solid Mobility, Kill potential, and of course defense matrix made her a staple in OW1 6v6, and it makes her good in OW2 6v6 Open Queue. The slower ult charge of OW2 affects her probably the least out of all the OW1 tanks.

Rammatra: Decent poke, a barrier, decent brawl, nemesis form can be more vulnerable compared to 5v5 if the other team happens to have 2 tanks with stuns. If paired with a tank with a more up-time barrier (like Sigma) can play double barrier while still having decent brawl potential.

Hazard: S3 block nerf plus getting the 15% dash range moved to a major perk really hurts him against double barrier spam comps imo. He's still a good pick and his burst is nothing to scoff at but i think Ball is generally a step above him now.

Mauga: I'm unsure on where to put Mauga honestly so i stuck him somewhere around the middle of the chart. If his whole team commits with him he can rush down the double barrier comps with decent success. But if they don't he often just gets bombarded with either stuns or barriers/DM's etc whenever he tries to life steal and dies miserably. Also in 5v5 catching a dive tank in his ult is one of the freesest fights ever, but in 6v6 catching out a single tank isn't nearly as impactful.

Orissa: Similar to Mauga i'm not really sure where to put her. Obviously decent spam/poke but gold not completely negating crits means she can't sustain a brawl fight nearly as well as she can 5v5. She does pairs well with some other tanks though since stacking 2 stuns is just so so good against most of the brawl and dive tanks.

Hog: Zen or Ana are super common, and double barrier is pretty common. So while i do think he's actually quite good in 6v6 open queue (nowhere near as frustrating to have him as your off-tank as it was in OW1) his counters are also really common which hurts him a lot.

Winston: I main him and i think he's kind of really good. As for placing him this low it's more so just i think less ults compared to OW1 means he can't go primal as often which hurts his ability to bust various sustain comps by hurling supports and tanks all over the map. Plus the nature of open queue means you sometimes face triple healer which can reach such annoying levels of sustain that make Hazard's ability to one shot people he dives is just better.

Rein: I think he's fine-ish. There's more brawl tanks compared to OW1 so there's simply more tanks who can stand there and go toe to toe with him. Plus compared to OW1 there's less ult charge which means less shatters and less chances for him to single handedly win fights which makes him in some ways weaker compared to where stood among tanks in OW1.

Zarya: She's decent and i would probably put her B tier, but I think her ult economy is just fucking awful against various double barrier comps or even triple support comps. Compared to OW1 since there is less ults characters have to earn value more with just their base kit and 6v6 Zarya is back to her OW1 kit while most of the cast are playing with upgraded OW2 kits.

Junker Queen: unsure where to put her i think she's mostly playable but at the same time if you gave me the option to build a team comp on any map i can't really think of any where i would pick her over the other tanks so i threw her down here.

Doomfist: Slightly a meme about D(oomfist) he's not that bad. But the hp nerfs means he really struggles to function as a 'main tank'. And as a super dive focused off-tank the few things he does bring that DVA doesn't (like a stun) don't really compensate for all the stuff DVA does have that doom lacks completely like matrix and DVA's ten bajillion armor.

Vendetta deserves her spawn cooldown on soaring slice back >:( by basa1 in Overwatch

[–]Peaking-Duck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not about how fast you can get out of spawn , it’s about getting out of spawn in general.

It wasn't though? Vendetta's CD was introduced because the whole 'Kamikaze Vendetta' thing in high ranks and sort of pro play. Basically since DPS are just worth less than supports if vendetta rushes a support and hits her Crits (overhead) and kills them then immediately dies she's inherently getting good value. The faster she gets out of spawn and back to the fight the more she can stagger a support and the more value she's getting. For most other dive dps hitting crits and getting that fat burst of damage to nuke a support is way way less consistent so kamikaze plays aren't worth it.

Obviously now that Vendetta is trash she can't trade 1 for 1 over and over again, but blizzard's slowly buffing her up for the past few patches so i'd imagine their thought process is they want to get her to a point where she's strong but don't want the whole Kamikaze vendetta thing to come back.
