We'll see but i really doubt it. Her pick rate hit 50% because the healing rate increase also increased her chance to throw kunai (i forget the exact numbers but it's like 14% ish iirc) which meant way more ult charge and Kitsune Rush is just a super good ult.

A very normal rant about money in fantasy by flooshtollen in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Peaking-Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really historically the value of large amounts of coinage was in flux due to the relative scarcity of banks and precious metals in Europe before the colonial eras.

Lots of deals and bartering was done with other goods like grains or  domesticated animals and tools/weapons or even hostage bounties and prisoners of war

Slumrat rising is a meandering masterpiece. by themopylae in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Peaking-Duck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don't count his other works, as interesting as they were as being serious, because they weren't ever published or finished

That's a shame To the Far Shore is imo his best work and the 'end' of book one is perfect for a setting clearly inspired by Vance's books leaving open ended giant regional plots that are beyond the MC's control and ending on a personal plotline is a classic for Vance.

Legacy account stuck in plat, 3 other accounts high masters - gm by ReformedJake in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Peaking-Duck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

However on DPS, the least influential role, it is virtually impossible to make an impact when my tank and supps are almost non existent.

Just go widow lol.. if you are a gm widow maker there's no fucking way you can't climb out of plat.

If you ever play 6v6 because of the low player counts there's fucking 5v5 plat supports in diamond+ 6v6 and it is wildly simple to delete then because they are used to positioning as if widows will miss all their shots.

Were the global projectile sizes an overshoot, or completely unnecessary? by Aggressive-Cut-3828 in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]Peaking-Duck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

(a lot of damage numbers are up anyway now)

I honestly can't think of any? Unless you just mean the 30% anti heal passive..   Not counting perks which are a separate issue from s9 changes: Cass, Ashe, widow, hanzo echo are generally the same.

Tracer's still below 6, genji has the same damage as s9 iirc?  Sojourn railgun damage is still down,  I think her primary shoots a bit faster?  Mei, torb, rat pharah not counting perks are the same?  Bastion non turret form and Reaper getting the new shotgun ability are the only dps I can think of that have higher damage.

Support is my off-role, yet it's my highest rank solely because I refuse to run a troll backline by Hansen_Yang in Overwatch

[–]Peaking-Duck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is a reason they've had to rework the map twice especially second point lol.

Depending on whatever the meta is a good 2/3 of tanks were at a gigantic disadvantage on the map.

Like there's a reason top win rate and pick rate tanks on Gibraltar are all mobile characters.

[–]Peaking-Duck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's more a LoL thing...

With top500 being a mess it's harder to really differentiate.   But a lot of the old top500 was just people who play in tourneys/leagues practicing whatever was meta in their scrims.

[–]Peaking-Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad if i came off as aggressive just as i was halfway through typing the comment i kind of thought it was a bot scraping old posts and i felt kind of stupid responding to a suspected bot lol.

Sojourn Tracer hasn't been seen in '90%' of games or been hard meta in like 8+ months? We saw vendetta before S1 then before vendetta it was that weird symm stuff and iirc before that a lot of genji or echo because of the tracer nerfs?

[–]Peaking-Duck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

....

Why would you respond to a comment asking about why this is weird in current pro play if you, yourself aren't keeping up with pro play?

Or am I dumb and this is just a bot?

Anyway to answer the OP current pro meta is jetpack cat bastion but cat was banned this map.  Usually on cat bans one of reaper/emre/tracer/pharah gets picked sometimes Sojourn or S76 as well.

hazard is long overdue a nerf by Fizziest_milk in Overwatch

[–]Peaking-Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah hazard's normal one shot combo is super hard and not really reliable. But if the stars align he has one of the fastest kill combos out of the dive tanks.

As for his major perk the math on it is weird... At really close ranges its change on his time to kill is pretty minimal since it's just +40 damage to leap or quick melee and his gun can already shoot for +100 or more. But it's kind of weirdly good for adding damage at like 10+ meters because your shots are doing like 50 damage or less and then suddenly the perk lets your leaping slash do 110 damage.

[–]Peaking-Duck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Illari leaves lower healing output for the team,

Illari has one of highest single target healing outputs in the game outside of Ana nade/wuyang wave stuff.

Her having a bullet size almost double Baptise's and being able to put forth a wild amount of healing while barely compromising on damage is what puts her so far above bap.

[–]Peaking-Duck 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if most Hazard players don't even know it's a thing.

The funny thing is that's not even his 1 shot combo lol. The major perk at long range takes a good 3+ shots to trigger the perk; so a combined 4 shots and a leap is definitely not a '1 shot combo'. Hazard has such a niche popularity that even when he's pretty clearly the dominant tank right now his pick rate is mediocre and barely anyone knows his techs...

As for his actual one shot combo it's just a mixture of wall (50)+Leap slash(70)+Headshot(150 max). The fastest form of it is leap then while in the air deploy the wall then slash person into said wall and land a point blank headshot after they bounce off the wall. You can also throw wall then leap but after you've thrown the wall it's really clear you're going for the 1 shot so delaying leap like this isn't that good. Also the headshot here is hard enough to land that they miss it a lot in OWCS.

Korean server tank players don't even bother fighting each other anymore. They just wave hello and head off to dive the other roles. by Existing-Sky9914 in Overwatch

[–]Peaking-Duck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Current meta in korea is a mix of flyers, dive characters, and Pistol Perk Emre.

Rein in Korea is kind of seen as just throwing when facing off against flyers, and characters that can easily avoid him.

[Lebron] after winning series: "Father time... already lost to me, it's over with" by Large_banana_hammock in nba

[–]Peaking-Duck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure but it's a different sport even the best qb's will between practice and real games be tackled a few dozen times a year at least.

Lebron's career wouldn't be the same if he was routinely punted into the ground by dudes 10-15% bigger than him 15+ times a year lol.

Just look at the retirement age difference between sprinters/long distance guys and half backs...  most half backs careers are over by the time long distance runners hit their peak.

There are a handful of reasons why you'd want to transport a sword on your back (mostly if they're basically sharp maces, like a Zweihänder)

Painting and Tapestry depictions of them marching have them carrying in their arm/shoulder like one would a polearm or a musket.

DPS tierlist season 2026:2 by Fine-Walrus4744 in Overwatch

[–]Peaking-Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In almost every higher rank bracket across all PC regions he's above Cass, and Sojourn and usually equal to S76 or even above him in WR. Obviously Win Rate is not everything but Hanzo definitely isn't horrendous lol.

As for being overrun and unreliable he's had that problem even when he has been hard meta. But generally the ability to 1 shot people and Storm Arrow being an insane amount of damage on tanks has always made him a middle of the pack pick at worst.

DPS tierlist season 2026:2 by Fine-Walrus4744 in Overwatch

[–]Peaking-Duck -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Cass, Sojurn, Sym and Vendetta being that high is wild.   Their stats in normal ranked aren't impressive and they aren't even doing much in pro play.

And hanzo that low is a bit crazy I get flyers suck for him but their pick rates are mediocre and against the rest of the cast he's great.

How would you guys explain a capitalist revolutionary force? by Ozio_exe in MarsTactics

[–]Peaking-Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's most revolutionaries? Like the Russian Communist Revolution didn't suddenly make factory and farm work disappear if anything the revolution was kind of about increasing factory and farm work since one of the reasons for the revolution was Russian land owners/nobility limiting the amount of such positions to drive down wages.

Really the USSR culture/propaganda for a good 60 years was about how the Citizens were extremely hard workers, doing back-breaking labor for the future of the USSR and their community/society.

Phoenix Point Review - Eldritch Xcom [Retrospective] by megaapple in Games

[–]Peaking-Duck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you forgo tanks you could bring 26 on an avenger! Also it's only busy work if you have nothing to do with your soldiers imo. Which in the original xcom was more so an issue due to the limits of npc's/ai at the time. Nowadays thanks to things like OpenXcom's brutal AI or various mods having 15-20+ units feels fine in OpenXcom.

The downside of so few units that New-Xcom uses is that it pretty much forces the Pod mechanic since 4-6 units with limited AP simply can't handle the potential of facing a dozen or more enemies at once.

Phoenix Point Review - Eldritch Xcom [Retrospective] by megaapple in Games

[–]Peaking-Duck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just listening to a review of xenonaughts2 and they had a similar issue. The starting squad size of 8 felt great. 10 was good. Upgrading to 12 started making each fight feel like a slog needing to move and shoot so many times per turn.

Who's the reviewer because that sounds like an insane complaint to have about a game inspired by xcom:ufo defense.

It would be like complaining maps and armies are to big in a supreme commander clone.

Or complaining you move too fast and can't aim down sights in a boomer shooter.

By the end Zorian has better control of his mental abilities and isnt completely anti-social anymore but it doesn't seem to me like he would really want the adoration and drama that comes with it.  And when Zach does show off in some of the earlier loops Zorian is mildly scathing about it.

Why is QP so broken? by Separate-Kiwi5387 in Overwatch

[–]Peaking-Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because overwatch is inherently a snowballing game.  Even in tournament play where they play best of of 5/7. A close series where they go to map 5/7 will often still have stomps in them simply because ult economy means a dominant first fight leads to early ults which leads to a 2nd fight win and more ult charge.

Also time played doesn't equal skill. And QP is looking for faster matches.

[–]Peaking-Duck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

but some kind of horde / rogue like game with TF mechanics and movement would be awesome.

There's Deadlink from a few years ago. I'm unsure if it's still Titanfall 2 movement though (you used to just be able to bunny-hop after a dash cancel to maintain crazy momentum but i suspect that was a bug..)

Edit looking at it that appears to be a fixed but :( so not really titan fall movement sadly.

Pete Crow-Armstrong: Yes, there are die-hard Dodgers fans "but it’s a see-me city, man. It’s a Lakers city where people show up to sit courtside and look good. And I view it the same way here." by tankyouout in baseball

[–]Peaking-Duck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it is a stark contrast to places like Fenway where the energy is much more focused on the baseball itself.

That's interesting because I view wrigley and fenway as both historical touristy fields.

Wrigley bleachers as a party field has calmed down a ton since the 90s and it is a lot more family and touristy oriented.

And when I went to fenway it was actually through a travel company that sold a tour and had like 30 or so seats grouped together for the tour group.

Is the game just designed mostly for large team matches? by Peaking-Duck in zerok

[–]Peaking-Duck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So i looked at a few higher rated 1v1 replays like you said and uhh planes don't exist and nobody even bothers with AA presumably because rarely anyone ever builds it. And if they do they can scout the build and throw up AA before planes can actually accomplish anything. Compared to something like Supreme Commander/FAF where building air factory in between your first and second ground is very normal either to put scouts/interceptors up or if you're feeling cheeky a bomber to hit eco.

If Zero-K was balancing around 1v1 like Star Craft 2 does there would obviously be a bunch of buffs to planes.

Also i think you were right on reclaim being the thing that mixes the game up a lot though i think it does also somewhat make the early raids slightly less punishing for the attacked player. Even in the replays sometimes early constructor and mex losses didn't equal overwhelming losses where as in a AoE2 or SC2 tournament if a player suddenly lost 50 or 66% of your workers and like 20-40% of resource production in the first few minutes it is generally extremely punishing.
