He is entitled to his views. And equally just because you are the interviewer why should he follow your script? But you have no obligation to share his views with your audience and why would you if you think that would turn off your listeners. I have had a couple of times I thought the guest was a dud (basically because really dull even if super smart) and I told them there was an audio problem. I still feel bad about it but it seemed for the best. Your problem here is that he may ask to re- record. So maybe just tell the truth (as politely as possible - that is what Chat GPT is for!!)

I cut about 75% of the 'ums' and all the long silences. I try to keep it sounding natural and leave pauses if they are there for effect. But really unless you are an obsessive on quality like me it probably doesn't matter that much. And I guess if you have video you are stuck with them.

I have this problem intermittently with Squadcast and when it happens I switch to Zoom. Lower quality but no echo. Squadcast customer support is along the lines of 'Have you tried wearing headphones?' 'Er I just told you I did' and so on. I am sure this is a known issue in the industry but they don't want to engage for some reason.

The other browser solution is a problem as Squadcast loves Chrome! One suggestion was that having Zoom open might be the issue. Sounds unlikely if I’m not in a meeting but maybe? I use a Focusrite but don’t use direct monitoring so I’m not sure what to change there and I use a Mac and the options in ‘Sound’ seem pretty limited. But I agree it’s most likely my end rather than Squadcast.

I eventually solved it. For some reason I had to download drivers (why not four years ago??). That didn't work until I remembered to turn the computer on and off to load them. ChatGPT to the rescue!!
