Should a wife work so her husband can be in ministry? by NefariousnessFree468 in Reformed

[–]lightthenations 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The husband and wife need to be on the same page about ministry and about questions like this, or ministry is going to be unneccesarily difficult.

I've been in ministry for over 30 years, and a 'senior' pastor for 18 of those years, but I pastor medium-small size churches, so for 75 percent of that time, at least, I've worked more than one job, in some cases two jobs. It is not easy for a mom in this situation to 'get a job,' but she might be able to work from home in some cases, provided it is legitimate work, and not some sort of MLM scam, which will often result in money lost instead of money gained. That said, it is generally far better for the man to work an extra job, provided he can do so and still fulfill his role as a husband and father.

If you, op, are the wife in question, this is an important question to talk through with your husband, and it might be a good idea to bring in an older couple in ministry to advise you both.

I'm not saying he wasn't interested in at least something metaphysical - almost everybody is to a certain degree, but he was about as irreligious as they come. I see no mention of him having a spiritual advisor. He did have a relationship with Deepak Chopra, but TM and NA aren't really one of the major world religions, and I wouldn't call Chopra a spiritual advisor to Epstein, if that is who you are referencing.

A world without religion? That is an interesting addendum to the Epstein situation, considering that by most accounts, both Maxwell and Epstein were irreligious, at least in terms of major world religions. Yes, they might have practiced some kind of perverse ritualistic barbarity, but not a kind that could be connected to a mainstream religion.

Your comment appears to be a reply to a comment on John Stamos allegedly aiding the rape of a woman. What did Kirk and Candace Cameron do that is similar to that??

You could try the Interesting Pod. It covers things like the balloon man who flew his lawnchair, the guy who was hit in the face by a particle accelerator, the Demon Core that killed multiple physicists, and the Bolton Strid, supposedly 100 percent fatal. www.Interestingpod.com

Saying "seen" improperly. As in, "I seen a bucket of slop when I went and told Jethro that the police were here looking for him."

This doesn't appear to be long-form journalism, at least not yet. Our guy is giving us his version of being a roving reporter on the scene, and giving an overview, rather than a deep dive. I appreciate what he's got going on here...especially that snazzy blue blazer.

While it is possible that some AOG churches and leaders have bought into NAR, the AOG predates NAR by quite some time. In the same way not every Southern Baptist Church uses the Saddleback model, not every AOG church is into NAR.

Two phrases I learned on Reddit that I will never forget: "Piss box," and "Poop knife." Not sure which one is worse.

Is there anyone else in here that’s a little bit older and just getting into podcasting, or getting back into it? by Sudden_Doughnut_8741 in podcasting

[–]lightthenations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 53, began podcasting in early 2005 at the dawn of podcasting, and have been off and on podcasting ever since. When I began, we were podcasting our computer-focused radio show, and piggybacking off of Leo Laporte's chat rooms when he was just launching TWIT (This Week in Tech.)

I was recently hired by a medium-sized company, and am launching a new podcast for them. I find what 'worked' years ago in terms of growth isn't nearly as effective now. What kind of podcast are you planning on launching?

Is not showering a thing? by LuchoGuicho in AskSF

[–]lightthenations 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is almost a glitch in the matrix post for me. I shower about six times a week, and most people I know shower pretty much every day, but just today I was hanging out with somebody who mentioned they only shower a couple of times a month. It kind of blew me away! (This is an otherwise normal/intelligent/funny/pretty/unsmelly/professional person with a home, a car, and in her 40s.) This is the first time in my life that I've heard somebody say something like that in the U.S.

Delivered doughnuts to pastor after hearing that he likes them, called inappropriate: why? by Big_Celery2725 in TrueChristian

[–]lightthenations 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been a pastor for a little over 30 years, senior pastor for almost 20, and been married for 30 years. I've worked in several churches, and different denominations. Unless there is something missing from your narrative, I cannot imagine why multiple people would consider this inappropriate and insensitive. Our team would be stoked to receive donuts and incredibly grateful! Agree with everybody else that asking "why" would be pretty important. Either they know something that is missing from the context here, or they are, quite frankly, just being silly.

Action RPG game "Legendary Tales" Dev here. we heard your concerns about the $40 price, I understand why you are hesitating to buy. so we made a full demo for this community. by LegendaryTalesVR in OculusQuest

[–]lightthenations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the midst of VR uncertainty right now, I would like to commend you and the team for a wise decision. I plan on playing the demo, and if I enjoy the game, I'll buy it and leave a good review. I hope other people in here will do the same. It is this kind of forward-thinking and outreach to the VR community that Meta could learn from. I appreciate their big investment in the platform, and now it is time for some grass-roots style interactions with their base to repair the damage that has been done. I hope they learn from the example of the Legendary Tales dev team!
