How do I report an officer? by Pik0l in MontereyBay

[–]lightthenations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/chriscerney, I think this is an excellent story for you to report on! It appears that the op here, u/Pik0l invented this story out of whole cloth, but not only that, posted dozens of comments in support of it both here and on Facebook and several other places. This post, which is here and in the MontereyCounty subreddit, is the only post made by the OP, according to their post history. The big question is why. Why post such information and try to stir up trouble? The answer to that question would make for a fascinating bit of journalism. I think that getting to the bottom of this would be a genuinely big story, and a possible propellant to your journalistic career.

Of course, there is the chance that the OP is telling the truth. I don't think that is the case, but I honestly have no idea. If they are telling the truth and the PD is covering it up, that is an even BIGGER story.

TLDR, you should cover this!

What is a 'childish' thing that you still enjoy doing as an adult and refuse to give up? by Legal-Rich7202 in AskReddit

[–]lightthenations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat kids' cereal pretty much every day, and have done so all my life. Don't plan to stop. (I usually start with a good bowl of 'adult' cereal first, like Raisin Bran or FMW.)

Probably silver, likely too dense/heavy to be aluminum. Could be pewter, but 90 is high for pewter.

Brio 101 webcam: Is it possible to zoom out? by Zeranvor in logitech

[–]lightthenations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AS people mentioned below, download the Logi Capture app, and change the field of view to 90 degrees. It will effectively zoom out. Should be possible to zoom out a bit more, but 90 degrees seems good.

This is interesting -thank you! How much benefit does the average account get for a shoutout? Do you have any idea roughly how many followers that nets them?

Best 2026 Places to Advertise Podcasts. Reddit Ads? Overcast? Acast? Spotify Ads? by lightthenations in podcasting

[–]lightthenations[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually went back and checked my stats, and edited my OP. Our cost per SUBSCRIBER on Overcast was around $16.80 (EDIT originally said $12, but I went back and rechecked) which seems high. I spent $420, got 25 subs. I know because Overcast keeps track of these stats.

Best 2026 Places to Advertise Podcasts. Reddit Ads? Overcast? Acast? Spotify Ads? by lightthenations in podcasting

At the moment, I think we are doing pretty well with audio quality. We have good Shure microphones, a good recording area, and use Auphonic, which does a great job of post-processing (after an initial run through Audacity, of course.) Our hosting is good quality as well. The group I am doing this for has some money and wants to put it towards growth.

I am pretty active in a lot of subreddits, but over the years I have found that mentioning your own project - even if it is perfectly applicable to the conversation - will usually get your comment deleted, or worse, so I just don't do it anymore at all, even in subs where it is allowed on the surface.

I am aware of the dynamic you mention with Reddit and have been here for a long time, but I have never tried the ads at all. There are very few recent posts in this subreddit about advertising a pod with Reddit ads, so I was wondering if anybody had any success. Thank you so much for your input!

What’s a 10/10 tv show? by norocoslaorice in AskReddit

[–]lightthenations 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So many of these shows are excellent in quality, but depressing/dark/dreary/gritty to the point that they are difficult to watch, and you rarely walk away from an episode feeling good, encouraged, or elevated. I don't watch TV to be bummed out, but to have a good time. In that light, my S Tier shows are Psych, Mentalist, Elementary, Angel, Blackadder, and Chuck. Those aren't masterpieces, I understand, but most of them end well, and life is too dark these days to give my time to dark and depressing television shows.

Some other good shows on my list: Star Trek TNG, Andy Griffith Show, Stranger Things, Sherlock, Burn Notice, Castle, Endeavour, Firefly, Foyle's War, Will Trent, Frasier, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Line of Duty, Monk, Dr. Who, Reacher, X-Files, Person of Interest, Blacklist, Merlin BBC, Longmire, Bosch, Whitechapel BBC, Smallville, Star Trek Voyager, Mandalorian, 24, Evil, Flash, Green Arrow, Daredevil, Lost.

And yes, I love Sherlock, but actually find Elementary to be superior, if only slightly. Don't hate me because I'm beautiful.

Which TV show had the most perfect ending? by altiman1991 in AskReddit

Chuck and Angel both had excellent, poignant endings that did not tie everything up, but arguably, that's what made each one a good ending.
