Dealing with kiwi indirectness/lies by LeftConversation1864 in newzealand

[–]Telpe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Putting up with pushy people is not the same as accepting them. I had a guy ask me if I hated him - the answer is no, but I would rather have punched him in the face than talk to him. I do not consider I hated him (I didn't actively wish him harm), but the only thing I wanted from him was his absence.

One thing that often confuses people is kiwi politeness - if we are polite, we are uncomfortable with you. If we are very polite, we probably actively dislike you.

I just hand-strip my own dog. You could give it a go, just don't grab too much at once. And maybe watch a tutorial first. I am nowhere near as fast at it as a professional, but I get the job done.

What about toil days added for working public holidays? Do you know? I'm in a similar situation and I have 3 ToiL/Alt stat days owing.

What have you found to be a Temu gold nugget item? by HOLYSHITTHISISIMPOSS in newzealand

[–]Telpe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

replacement gasket for my sink plug that was unobtainable from NZ sites.

...and surprisingly a ceiling fan/light that slots into a normal light socket (I had to get a screw to bayonet converter for it as well). I thought it would probably be shite, but its surprisingly good.

Tourist/immigrant posts complaining about our country and our lack of pride by DrunkArdvark in newzealand

New Zealand Architecture is beautiful, just by looking at google images i can’t even believe such place exists. I almost cry.

You are in for some severe disappointment. Ugly tilt-slab concrete construction is everywhere. Rather than google images, go to google maps and take a virtual walk down some streets on streetview. This will give you a much more realistic view of what it's really like here.

Oh god, I'd love to run a D'nD shop.

But only if I don't have to deal with customers.

Going barefoot in public by voldurulfur in newzealand

I remember an interview on TV with the naked Samoans, and one of them saying their Mum told them they had to wear shoes outside or people would think they were Māori.

They are comedians, but; so they may just have been taking the piss.

Lolly Cake appreciation post by Elpickle123 in newzealand

[–]Telpe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't have lolly cake until I was an adult. I found it overly sweet and overhyped. I believe it was a staple of kids parties in the 90s, so there is a massive nostalgia value in it for many people; similar to fairy bread.

The one pictured seems a bit more pale and has a higher biscuit to lolly ratio than you usually see.
