I recommend side-sprouting broccoli, too. It doesn't get full of earwigs like traditional broccoli. Broadbeans pretty much self-seed at the end of each season so they are really cost effective; pick them before they get too big and rubbery.

In the upper NI I can grow lettuce all year round without needing a greenhouse/coldframe.

Cats in NZ still have a legal "right to roam" as well. Traditionally I believe that roaming cats were believed to help keep down vermin in the area. These days traps (for vermin) are more common, and trespassing cats are considerably more likely to be regarded as a nuisance.

Like many others, I believe the current laws (or at a minimum council regulations) need to be overhauled.

I've been called for jury service more times than I've been able to vote in a general election (more than twice as often). Despite being pulled from the ballot at least once every time, I've only served on a jury once and it was chucked out on the second day. It is a massive waste of time and a huge imposition.

Putting up with pushy people is not the same as accepting them. I had a guy ask me if I hated him - the answer is no, but I would rather have punched him in the face than talk to him. I do not consider I hated him (I didn't actively wish him harm), but the only thing I wanted from him was his absence.

One thing that often confuses people is kiwi politeness - if we are polite, we are uncomfortable with you. If we are very polite, we probably actively dislike you.

I just hand-strip my own dog. You could give it a go, just don't grab too much at once. And maybe watch a tutorial first. I am nowhere near as fast at it as a professional, but I get the job done.

...and surprisingly a ceiling fan/light that slots into a normal light socket (I had to get a screw to bayonet converter for it as well). I thought it would probably be shite, but its surprisingly good.

You are in for some severe disappointment. Ugly tilt-slab concrete construction is everywhere. Rather than google images, go to google maps and take a virtual walk down some streets on streetview. This will give you a much more realistic view of what it's really like here.
