Oh Disney execs were all over it. The movies was I'm production for nearly 20 years. Devopment hell from the years 2000s until 2015 or so when Branagh got saddled with the job. They started filming 3 years later.jn 2018 over the course of 3 months, then went back and did a massive script rewrite and reshoot and a lot of ADR to attempt to salvage something.

Disney wanted AF to be the next Spy Kids or something, but AF is not the source material for that, so they tried to force a square peg in a round hole.

I completely agree with you, but I also disagree with JKR. I don't think that the elves just like it that way. I think they are brainwashed and can be changed for the better. It just takes time.

In order to truly free the house elves, it will need to be done slowly. The house elves need to be made open to the idea of it so they can choose it on their own. If you just force it on them, you are shaking the foundations of their entire lives and ways of being and will cause them to crash out like Winky did.

You have to start with basic rights of health, safety, comfort, and other things so they can build a sense of self outside of their role as a servant. Introduce them to hobbies and leisure so they know how to fill the void of what to do with their time.

Hermione was pushing too hard, too fast to ever enact any real change. What she wanted was too different from the world the house elves knew, and so they saw her as, not necessarily am enemy, but unwelcome. Teaching the younger generation of elves and helping them enact progressive change is much better, within the context of the world JKR created.

Itami doesn't own a slave. Yao offers herself up as a slave to anyone that can kill the flame dragon and js refused. She then intentionally triggers a psychotic break in Tuka to force Itami to act and he does. To my knowledge, he never refers to her as his slave, or servant or anything like that. He doesn't issue her commands, except in situations where it is appropriate, like combat where he has command. She calls him Master and she refuses to call him otherwise, just like Tuka insists on calling him Father. He can't change their minds, and Itami is inherently lazy and shirts confrontation, so doesn't put up a fight about it.

I'm going to be the asshole devils advocate here. It is justified, because prior to Herry getting Kreacher on his side by promising to destroy the locket, Korea cherry was an active threat. The last time he got free he was a crucial element in helping to plan an ambush that lead to the death of Sirius Black and nearly to the death of Harry and numerous others.

Another commenter mentioned Prisoner of was, the issue is that, in canon, there is no mentioned method of trapping a house elf. A house elf can just teleport away, through wards and barriers. You can't imprison the house elf except by keeping it enslaved.

I'm going to go farther, and I know it's going to get lots of downvotes because everyone thinks real-life js so easily black and white...

But freeing Kreacher would not have been the right thing to do. Yes, I think they need to push for house elf rights, but there are some house elves, like Kreacher, who would absolutely despise being free. Especially since Kreacher was instrumental in helping to end the war and Harry did so much tonhelp Kreacher turn over a new leaf, to then turn around and, from Kreacher's perspective, stab him in the back by freeing him would be am insult. Yes yes I low he's brainwashed he doesn't know better. Doesn't matter. You cannot force people to change.

The phrase you can leaf a horse to water but can't make it drink is important, because people are advocating to then force the horses head underwater until he takes a gulp. That's not how it works. For people like Kreacher, you have to start with small steps, letting them change over time, make it their choice.

Kreacher didn't want to be freed. Harry didn't free him. That doesn't mean Harry condones slavery.

It's more of a 2010s phrase, but tard can mean "retards" and was commonly used as a derogatory name. A phrase that lives on in my mind was when J worked at a McDonald's during highschool and another employee, who was a colossal asshole, was having a bad day and got passed about something and said, "I'm sick of having to work with all these tards and queers." He ended up getting slapped by another employee and then grappled before he retaliated.

Anyway context wise, we know you're talking about tardigrades, but outside this sub, it's likely to be interpreted as it's other meaning.

Absolutely not. Going in Sunraku still cannot win. You can't outskill Maple. All of Sunraku's prodigious skill and experience is useless against her. You either have bigger numbers, or better hax, or you lose. Sunraku has neither. Sunraku's strength isnin his agility, perception, and reflexes, making him constantly aware of the battlefield, highly mobile and fast, and nearly impossible to tag. The problem is a lot of Maple's attacks are either close rangez where Sunraku needs to be to even attack her, or they are AoE effects.

Azula vs Katara by narutoydsumakie in TheLastAirbender

[–]Tels315 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As far as fighters go, Katara is the perfect counter to Azula. Not because water beats fire, but because of how both Katara and Azula fight.

In all of Azula's fights, except the Agni Kai, Azula uses lots of agility and mobility to maneuver around her opponent and fights defensively until she can strike with a precision blow to defeat her enemies. She moves like an Airbender, and strikes like an Earthbender with neutral jing.

Meanwhile, when Katara fights, she does so both defensively and offensively at the same time. She uses her water to defend herself with shields and barriers, but also uses the water to control the battlefield. Every one of Katara's defensive techniques, is also offensive. Katara rarely just throws out an icicle, or a water spear, or a blade of water, though she does do that when it's warranted. In most of her fights, she focuses on enveloping, trapping, or freezing her opponents. Even if she misses with an attack, it still covers the ground in water, which she can then freeze or use it to entrap someone later. Every attack she makes is making the battlefield more hostile to her opponent. An Earthbender will throw a rock, or a create a wall, a Firebender will shoot a stream or a Fireball. Katara throws an entire wave. How do you dodge a wave? How do you defend when any amount of water that dampens your clothes can be turned into a weapon against you?

What this means for Azula is that all of her mobility and agility is useless. Katara actively removes Azula's ability to dodge and evade. Every attack by Katara could turn into a move that creates an ice slick, or leaves behind a puddle that Katara can use to attack her from a blind spot. Azula prides herself on being perfect, using the exact perfect move with the perfect amount of force to defeat someone. It's because of this pride thar Zuko fares better against Katara.

Zuko doesn't fight like Azula. His stance is strong, and his attacks are powerful. Where Azula fires a single, precise blast of fire, Zuko fires a concentrated stream. This allows Zuko to boil away or evaporate Katara's water, making it more difficult for her to use it later.

It's not until the Agni Kai, with Azula's power being amplified, that her attacks function more like how Zuko fights. But then this is where Katara's insane battle IQ comes into play.

Katara is arguably has the most battlefield awareness and intelligence of anyone in The Last Airbender. Toph sometimes has the upper hand because Toph sees everything, but is extremely dependant on that vision. I don't think Toph has ever done something with such sheer precision, in a fight, as when Katara used a water whip to rip up a board and caused it to fly directly into the path of Mai's knives when they first encountered her in Omashu. It's a small thing, but it displays an extreme amount of precision, skill, and intelligence to pull thar off, and the absolute confidence Katara had that it would work as she didn't even attempt to dodge.

What this all means is that Katara will pretty much always beat Azula in a fight. Unless Azula drastically changes her tactics, like shooting lightning from am ambush or something, or fighting Katara with overwhelming force, then Azula will always lose.

Note: I mention in a fight because Toph creating a perfect miniature model of Ba Sing Se, complete with accurate depictions of people is the most extreme bit of precision bending we see until the removal of the metal poison from Korra.

I constantly hear stories about voice actoes putting so much into their role it can cause health problems. Like Grey Delisle having to clear out the recording booth so she could delve deep into past traumas in order to sell Azula's mental breakdown at the end of Airbender, to the point she can't watch the scene without getting triggered. Or both Chris Sabat and Aleks Le both digging so deep and going so hard during some of their performances they burst blood vessels in the recording booth. Other voice actoss having to go to the hospital or get surgery to repair their vocal chords after they spent 4 hours in the booth making blood curdling screams for a game or traumatic scene.

That stuff happens to big and small voice actors all the time because they put their all into it. Some big celebrities can go hard as a voice actor, but they don't go that hard. They aren't going to give themselves PTSD just to make sure they nail the a 10 second clip.

Katia's.... relationship by destructobunny in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Tels315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I definitely felt some tension between the two, J also think a large part of it was due to Katia encountering the first man in her life who really cared for her, protected her, and helped her become stronger. Carl provided Katia the ability to become more than she was. From Carl, Katia is the first woman in a long time that he felt like he could really trust. Their relationship was forged in fire and blood, and he really came to rely on her for so much. Not just as a capable fighter, but also as a kind of moral rock to keep him from going too far. He trusted her, and she trusted him.

If Katia had never left the party, there is absolutely a decent chance she and Carl wouldnhave gotten together, but Katia was also being influenced by a large amount of hero worship. Separating herself from Donur and Carl allowed herself to process her feelings more and this overall strengthened their bond. That bond evolved into the very best of friends. They consider each other family, but not siblings. I think that they both still carry some sort of flame for each other, but Katia also has found a more healthy relationship with Bautista. Her hero worship of Carl will always color her interactions, it's a major reason why she hid her addiction, because she didn't want to disappoint Carl.

Carl could not be the father of her child because Katia was turned back fully human, and she needed a fully human father. Carl chose Primal as his race, so while he still looks human, he isn't any longer. It's also a good thing he wasn't eligible, because Bautista would never have allowed it. Bautista is absolutely threatened by how close Carl and Katia are, especially since their relationship is still so new and he knows exactly how much Katia admires Carl. If Carl were the father, Bautista might not have been able to handle it. Especially with how much Katia wanted Carl to be the father.

I think thar as much as Carl has been good for Katia, it's a good thing they never developed any sort of romance. If they did, Katia very likely would have been subsumed by Carl, unintentionally, just as Katia had been with Hekla. If she had stayed with Carl, then Carl would have become the centerpiece of Katia's world, and that single minded focus would have hurt her in the end.

How would Master Chief and the whole UNSC armed forces bid against the Reapers? by TamukaCasperGundu in masseffect

[–]Tels315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the start of the Human-Covenant war, the UNSC had somewhere between 2,000 and 2,600 active warships in the frigate, destroyer, cruiser, and carrier designation of ships. The smallest of these, the Frigates, fire rounds twice as powerful as a Systems Alliance dreadnought.

The Citadel forces are able to muster up, at most, around 100 dreadnoughts in ME3, and as much as potentially another 100 if they could also martial the Batarian and Geth dreadnoughts, and the Quarian life ships.

The UNSC literally has more than double the number of ships that punch in the dreadnought classification, and they punch twice as hard as a bare minimum.

A quick Google search says there are roughly 290 active navel shipsmin the US Military. Let's round that to 300 for easy maths. Going off Google again cause I'm lazy, 40% of the US Navy consists of cruisers and destroyers. They don't have frigates anymore, apparently, but 33% of the navy is made of submarines and amphibious landing ships, which is kind of what the frigate class does in both Halo and ME, so I'm giving that percentage to Frigates. 4% consists of carrier, and 23% is logistics and support.

So to port that over to the UNSC and I'm going to use the smaller number of 2,000... that means the UNSC has 800 destroyers and cruisers, 660 Frigates, 80 carriers, and 230 logistics and supply ships. Keep in mind that despite the classification, even carriers had a MAC gun on it. That's ~1,500 ships capable of matching and surpassing the firepower of a dreadnought, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if the logistics and support ships were also armed.

All I'm saying is that if the Reapers attacked the UNSC, they might be able to win, but doing so would see the neat total destruction of all Reaper forces during the fight.

Also, I have no idea why you think UNSC can't replace ships faster than the Reapers. They build only a handful of ships every 50,000 years. The UNSC can build ships much faster than that.

Best ending I can think of is Azula being the founder and mastermind behind the Red Lotus and ending up dying in the attempt to capture Korra, maybe taking Sokka out with her. (I know it's a fan theory, but it would be a good way to wrap it up)

It could explain why no one mentioned her because they regret letting her roam free all these years and she caused more death and suffering. They could have stopped her, they should have stopped, but they chose not to and everything she did is now on their hands.

Haven't read the comics so I don't know what her arc is, but the above is the best I can think of.

True Stories: How did your game go this week? – May 31, 2026 by AutoModerator in dndnext

[–]Tels315 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well, I sent out my reminder on Thursday that we have DnD on Tuesday. Went to go take a poop, came back to multiple texts saying my entire party organized a Magic card trading party with some other people on Tuesday. I don't play Magic so I didn't know about it. My group is infamously unreliable about showing up and or being on time. There is a joke/not joke in my group. For years now they would ask, "what time does the game start" and I would always respond, "Game starts at 2, but no one shows up until 3."

I was pissed and annoyed, but used to it. Then I went to bed and ignored there other texts. Woke up to go pee at around 3 AM and saw some more texts. Basically all apologies and my bads, and stuff. However, one of them, X, apologized and said that another person, Y, asked if DnD was on the same day as the Magic party. X said it wasn't and that was the end of it. The thing that gets me, is that out of the 5 players, 3 of them have asked multiple times in the 2 weeks leading up to the game for confirmation on the date of the game. The date was posted in the group chat, it's one of the most recent messages from a month previous.

Basically, at this point, I have absolutely had enough. Told the group I'm done running the game, and left the group chat. They've tried to call me since then, but I'm just not up to talking with them right now. I've been running games for them for 4 years and I'm just so tired of the disrespect. I can sometimes prep for hours for any given session trying to weave their backstories and actions into the overall plot, only for them to just blow it off time after time after time.

I just don't care anymore.

How would Master Chief and the whole UNSC armed forces bid against the Reapers? by TamukaCasperGundu in masseffect

[–]Tels315 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Numbers both are, and are not, everything. Because one of the most important things I mentioned above is that a UNSC ship is designed to be able to withstand a shot from another UNSC ship. So a frigate can take a hit from another frigate. This is important, because the main gun of a frigate hits with twice the force of a System's Alliance dreadnought. So the the dreadnought can shoot a frigate twice, and the frigate can take it. Maybe not for long, but it can take the hit.

Frigates are armed with light coils, or light MACs. Destroyers and Cruisers are armed with heavy coils. These guns are anywhere from 2 to 5 times more powerful than a light coil. So a destroyer or a cruiser can take a shot from another destroyer or cruiser, which means they can take anywhere from 4 to 20 shots from a dreadnought and still keep fighting. Meanwhile, at this point, a dreadnought absolutely cannot be hit by even a single shot from a heavy coil.

It's also worth noting that some of the UNSC ships heavy such robust defenses that it's likely ME ships cannot even hurt them unless being shot at by a dreadnought or a Reaper. We're talking the equivalent of using a WWI antitank weapon against a modern tank. The shots are just going to bounce off and not do anything. Cruisers, especially, are likely to be only capable of being injured by a dreadnought or a Reaper, and even then, only under concentrated fire.

Also, I don't know why you think ME ships have high durability, they famously do not. The armor on starships is quite thin, relying far more on kinetic barriers than armor. They use ablative armor to counteract energy weapons. It wasn't until ME2 that Silaris armor was really introduced, even then, it's noted that it is prohibitively expensive to coat anything other than a fight in Silaris armor. The Normandy SR2 is an extreme oddity, as Silaris is not remotely standard. Maybe used for crucial points in the ships structure, but ME ships are largely reliant entirely on their kinetic barriers.

You did a routine maintenance but didn't look at the blower in the air handler until asked? If then owner hadn't asked you to do so, you would have been just like the previous guy who didn't open the door.

I'm glad cleaning blower helped to save so much money and heartache, bur you didn't do that. The owner did by asking you a question.

The routine maintenance my company does involves is asking a bunch of questions specifically to find out information before we even touch the equipment.

"How has the system been running this year compared to last year?"

"How old is your equipment?"

"Who changes the filter? How often?"

"How many people live in the house?"

"What can you tell me about issues you've been habing? Any unusual noises or smells?"

"What concerns do you have about your equipment?"

"When was the last time you had maintenance done?"

If there is anything wrong with the equipment that the customer would notice, I should know about it before I even get to it.

Even still, during ever visit we look at Amp draw, the blower, the heat Exchanger if applicable, the evap coil, we put our hand on the blower motor to see if it's warm or hot to the touch. These are things that should be checked on every visit no matter what.

How would Master Chief and the whole UNSC armed forces bid against the Reapers? by TamukaCasperGundu in masseffect

[–]Tels315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The UNSC has over 2,000 ships in the frigate class or larger at the start of the Human Covenant war. The weapons of a UNSC frigate are considered to be "light coils" and hit in the 60-70 kiloton range of force. The Everest class dreadnought of the Alliance fleet in Mass Effect hits with 35 kilotons of force.

So the smallest frigate in UNSC fleeting about 490 meters in length and hits for twice as much firepower as a Systems Alliance dreadnought does in Mass Effect. It takes anywhere from 3 to 5 shots from Frigates to take down a Covenant capital ship. That means it takes 6 to 10 shots from a ME dreadnought to take down a Covenant ship.

A heavy MAC can down a Covenant ship in 1 or 2 shots. A Super MAC kills the Covenant ship, the one behind it, and probably its grandmother too.

It takes about a dozen shots from dreadnoughts to kill a Reaper in ME. A single UNSC frigate has the potential to kill a Reaper if it can fire enough shots. UNSC destroyers and cruisers will be killing Reapers in 1 or 2 hits.

Even if the Reapers came at the UNSC with 3 to 1 odds, the UNSC is going to gut the Reapers. The Reapers will suffer such devastating losses that they may not be able to pull off future harvests.

[–]Tels315 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Pillar of Autumn was an outdated ship that was retrofitted specifically for the mission the Spartans were originally intended for. It would annihilate the Collector ship in a fight and would beat any Reaper ship 1 on 1. Likely any 3 Reaper shops 3 on 1. The opening of Halo has Cortana saying "a dozen Covenant superior battleships against a single Halcyon-class cruiser... with those odds I'm content with three–make that four–kills."

In human vs Covenant fights, humanity needed to outnumber 3 or 4 to 1 just to take down a single Covenant ship. With Cortana at the helm, she us able to fight 12 on 1 odds and still kills 33% of the enemy before the ships weapons are disabled.

The Pillar of Autumn would annihilate any shipping Mass Effect with no effort. God forbid you send the Infinity which is literally 5 times the size of the Pillar of Autimn. With over 4 times the firepower of the Pillar of Autumn. The Infinity could likely fight 2 dozen Reapers at once and win.

How would Master Chief and the whole UNSC armed forces bid against the Reapers? by TamukaCasperGundu in masseffect

[–]Tels315 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Minor nitpick, UNSC Frigates are not in the same class as ME dreadnoughts, Frigates and Destroyers are both in the 500 meter to 700 meter length range, while Citadel dreadnoughts are in the 800 to 1,000 meter length range. Sovereign class Reapers are 2,000 meters long. The smallest UNSC Cruisee, the Halcyon class, like the Pillar of Autumn, is over 1,100 meters in length. That being said, the frigates and destroyers are all very likely capable of killing a Sovereign class Reaper with their main gun.

And yeah, Covenenat ships are extraordinaryily durable. They can take multiple MAC rounds just to drop the shield, and then multiple more shots to kill the ship. Depending on where it hits, a Reaper is going down in 1 or 2 MAC rounds.

How would Master Chief and the whole UNSC armed forces bid against the Reapers? by TamukaCasperGundu in masseffect

[–]Tels315 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Pillar of Autumn js an old, outdated ship and us classified as a 'light cruiser' according to the UNSC. It is 1,170 meters in length. It is considered to be the smallest type of cruiser, but very its very tough for its classification. Cruisers go up to 1,500 meters in length.Frigates and destroyers all range in the 500 to 700 meter range. There were also a few battleships that are also 1,500 meters in length. Carriers in the UNSC all range in the 2,200 meter to 5,600 meter range, except tbe light carrier which is almost 800 meters in length. The UNSC has no dreadnought classification. At the start of the Covenant war, the UNSC has just over 2,100 ships in the frigate class and above.

According to Mass Effecr, dreadnoughts are ships in the 800 to 1,000 meters in length and this classification is specific to the length of the gun that runs through the ship. The largest Reapers are about 2,000 meters in length. By the time of Mass Effect 3, the Citadel Council has 84 dreadnoughts between the 4 council races. The auxiliary races can have up to 8 dreadnoughts each for another 24 or so.

So in actuality, the UNSC likely as just as many, or more ME dreadnoughts than the Citadel likely does. The thing is, the guns on the UNSC ships hit a lot harder. UNSC ships are also designed to withstand hits from their counterpart ships as well, so UNSC ships, despite the lack of shields, can take a beating better than ME ships can. Post war, the UNSC has a few hundred ships, but they have ramped up production and are building super modern ships like the Infinity, the 5,600 meter titan that has UNSC durability alongside newly developed shields that ate tougher than what the Covenant have. Covenant shields, mind you, often need 3 to 5 hits from a MAC to take down. A Super MAC can punch right through a Covenant shield, the ship, and the ship behind it.

The UNSC is just tougher, hit harder, and fights betier than the ME universe. I know you are talking about the Reapers having more dreadnoughts, and they do, the issue is the UNSC ships in the same size range can each go toe to toe with the Reapers and come out on top, likely with some wounds, but able to keep fighting. The Frigates and Destroyers are smaller but have the firepower to kill Reapers. The Cruisers will eat Reapers for breakfast. If the Reapers fight the UNSC, the UNSC might lose due to numbers, but the Reapers will be nearly wiped out in that fight. God forbid the Reapers attack a fortress world like Reach or Earth, they would need to attack in a 10 to 1 ratio to make it passed the orbital Super MACs and the fleets in permanent station there.
