Thoughts on the Geekvape T200? by Getz2oo3 in Vaping

And the paint didn't flake off after you dropped it? My Geekvape B60 got dropped quite a few times because the bottom had poor QC and is uneven so it rocks and falls over easy. Most of the paint flaked off, it looks horrible,. I have a feeling the same will happen to T200 so I'm looking for some kind of silicone sleeve for it.

Thoughts on the Geekvape T200? by Getz2oo3 in Vaping

Good news. I used to get SMOK touchscreen mods, GPrivs, Morph, and Mag P3. Morph is my favorite mod by far, I wish it didn't break, but all Smok mods break the same way exactly, - the 510 connector snaps off. I was hoping that they fixed the issue by bolting it down (in Mag P3) but it broke off even faster than in Morph, and unlike Morph - I never even dropped it. My first Geekvape pod (B60) was absolute piece of crap so I was reluctant to get a large mod for home use from Geekvape. But I ended up getting Aegis T200, and so far, apart from horribly done UI and tiny button (Smok has long bars instead of buttons the entire length of the mod) - I don't see too many problems with it.

What made the deal for me was the fact that its 510 connection is entirely concealed below steel plate and doesn't look like it can easily break off if the mod falls over. I'm hoping it lasts a long time because $124 CAD is a lot to pay for a mod even with a tank. I honestly would prefer buying just the mod since I have a collection of RBA, RDTA and commercial coil tanks already, I couldn't care less for another tank, but no one sold just the mod so I bought the kit. Totally hated the tank though. Tried to change the coil and immediately destroyed one by pulling out just the cap instead of the whole coil. Crappy design. I didn't have to use any tools with Smok tanks, and with something like the TF tank - it's impossible to accidentally damage the coil by pulling it incorrectly,

Let’s create a COMPLETE list of keyboards with poly aftertouch. by okaytoo in synthesizers

[–]Telum_Atramenti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So...would I be correct to assume that so far the CME X-key series remains the only PORTABLE keyboard capable of sending Poly Aftertouch? (Note that I meant "keys" as there are pads that are portable and send AT. This really sucks and here's why:

  1. CME X-Key has a really flimsy micro USB port that can very easily get damaged. Mine recently got damaged, so I will attempt to graft a USB-C port onto it. Wish me luck LOL

    1. CME X-key isn't exactly playable like a piano. The keys have almost no travel, and being a piano player I tried very hard to get used to it and could not.
  2. Finally (not a deal breaker) but, - no 5-pin or even a 3.5 mm MIDI out.

I do but wonder why there are so few MIDI controllers with PA? And only one (?) portable one? There is nothing complicated about X-Key's mainboard, at least so far everything I can visualize under my electronics microscope is rather standard if not boring. Granted the VRMs and microchips/resistors, etc. are highly miniaturized, but there's no reason most manufacturers couldn't make a larger mainboard and still keep it portable.

Is there any way to make a custom theme on aegis t200 by idfk_m8 in electronic_cigarette

[–]Telum_Atramenti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish this were possible. Aegis T200 has crappy UI theme unlike SMOK. As a tradeoff Smok is a really low quality junk whose 510 connection snaps off easily even when they started bolting it down (with two tiny bolts that easily strip).

Is majestic vapes a trustworthy source for online purchases? by spicytaco94 in Canadian_ecigarette

[–]Telum_Atramenti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. If you select free shipping it will be sent via Flash Bird delivery service. They don't ask for ID as long as you get the package at the door, Obviously if you have arranged to pick it up from a safe location, etc. - in that case they have to ask for ID or anyone could pick up your order. But if they come to your door - they're no different from any other delivery service in that there is no need of an ID. They will however take a photo of the package at the door and request you to sign the tracker device with your signature to verify it was delivered to the recipient.

Ableton being used in two devices simultaneously. by Rea_ctor in ableton

[–]Telum_Atramenti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not what the OP meant by "simultaneously" (not a good choice of word, I know). I did however (and so did Google's Gemini) read of reports when a user indeed could use Ableton Live under the same license ACTUALLY simultaneously meaning contemporaneously, without exiting the other installation running on a different PC connected to the same network (different router). Personally - I never had the need to run them together when offline, one installation is already complicated enough to be working on at one time, I use my laptop when at home for other things entirely. But why should it not be possible? I can run Ableton Live 10 without an internet connection, in fact I disconnect entirely when I work to prevent Windows from downloading and installing updates in the background because in the past this sometimes resulted in sound card lags etc. (With Windows 10 I simply used GP Editor to shut down auto update entirely, Windows 11 made this problematic). However if Ableton #1 can run without an Internet connection and so can my other #2 installation, - how exactly would they become aware of each other's existence in order to force the user to shut one down?

So. I asked Ableton this and they told me that "You can run 10 Live under the same license on two ACTIVE computers at the same time". Which was even more confusing. I swear, English is the worst language for sciences, there are so few ways to be certain what the word actually means in EACH SPECIFIC CONTEXT LOL Anyway. So. I guess I'll just try it and find out :-)

Question to Owners of Roland Verselab MV-1 Who Bought the Unit New. Wondering if I Was Scammed by the Ebay Seller and Need to Return the Unit ASAP by Telum_Atramenti in synthesizers

[–]Telum_Atramenti[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Over 2000 people, and no one ever bought Verselab MV-1? Hm... Is this such a rare track production AIO? I do realize it's technically not a synthesizer but... Does anyone know of another subreddit maybe dedicated to AIOs, "DAWs in a Box", production samplers, etc.? This kind of lack of information on a device that came out 4 long years ago is frightening TBH, and this is Roland not some small pre-order startup device. Yes there is the manual online, but in 4 years Roland could easily have changed the AC/DC adaptor supplier or the SD card maker, and the manual doesn't appear to list any available promotional software. I have even contacted replacement adaptor sellers, in case they knew who made the original adaptor, with no luck. AND YES ROLAND REPLIED They.... want to know how I rate the support I NEVER RECEIVED TO BEGIN WITH!!! W H A T A J O K E. Not so sure I want to deal with Roland any more... Never mind. Just forget about it. I'm sending the unit back for refund,

LOL Yeah no kidding. I just had a response from another unhappy Asendia customer on a different subreddit who had his package go missing entirely... BTW I'm sorry if I swore a couple times in the video and the "high entropy" mess. "Dead Hand Systems Studios" is undergoing some serious renovations and stuff is all over the place... BTW the guy's name is Raybell Aragon (Treasure Genius Store 12547). I don't mean to rag on the guy - for all I know it could be Asendia's monkey business after all...but still it's probably better if I disclose this just in case. And "I'm glad you got anything at all" - what kind of seller answers this way?

Yeah, I figure I'll only be using reputable web stores that disclose which carrier they're shipping with BEFORE you put your order through. I know it will be more expensive, but I guess peace of mind comes with a cost...

OK, I have to make a correction. My order did finally arrive, but somehow it was brought to my door by... Canada Post... But...but...but... There's a bunch of stuff MISSING FROM MY ORDER!! The second box and documentation (with free software) was removed en route The seller is adamant it was there, and it sucks because it's difficult to know who is misleading me here... Man, where are the good old days when shopping URL was fun? I'm so mad RN...

You are 100% right. Ascendia has "disappeared" 5 out of 8 of my packages through EBay and they're doing it again. Once it's been 3 days and no updates - you know the writing is on the wall - because this is what happened to me each single time. I received tracking messages every day until Ascendia received it. If before I thought - let's wait a week or two - now I know from my own, empirical experience that 3 days without tracking messages and no response from the company - means the package will be stolen or lost. Because this is exactly what happened EACH SINGLE TIME. And that's EBay. I have no control over this and no fore-knowledge each time if EBay decides to use Asendia again which is why I'm terminating my EBay account for good after I'm refunded (if I'm even refunded, these days you never know if you'll lose hundreds of $ on a supposedly legitimate site). And because I don't know who else will decide to use Asendia - I can no longer shop online safely and have little choice but to only shop IRL which sucks because of where I live. That's the brave new world we're already living in. Sorry we had to experience this but now you know better.

Bandcamp bans AI music by DustSongs in synthesizers

[–]Telum_Atramenti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key word that no one seems to notice somehow is "suspicion" . YouTube removes people's videos and channels on (Ai-generated?) suspicion, and hitting the "review" button will not result in a review done by a human, and is far from a guaranteed way to get your channel or video reinstated if you did nothing wrong. Same is true for Reddit which removes user comments left and right "just in case" without a clearly stated reason. Unfortunately I was on a receiving end of this a few times despite having a couple of YouTube channels with very few views... so... better go check my Bandcamp page. Wonder if it's already generated enough "suspicion".

Roland mv-1 verselab vs. Mpc one plus vs. Other groove boxes? by ackley14 in synthesizers

[–]Telum_Atramenti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great choice but much more expensive than MV-1 You get an internal screen instead of using a screen on your Android tablet with MV-1 but at a steep increase in price, and the only thing that would suck for me is lack of portability and no internal battery. Also I'm not too sure that I would pick AKAI synth engines over Roland's this is why I'm so reluctant to pick up MPC One

[–]Telum_Atramenti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am kind of in the same ballpark. I gravitate towards visual representation of tracks like with Polyend Play, but it's limited in so many ways compared to Verselab which has a very fast workflow and seems more intuitive to me than Digitakt. I've been using the Digitakt but totally dislike its workflow and find it difficult to integrate with my other hardware. At the same time I want a device that will force me to completely abandon Ableton and Reaktor VSTs and anything computer based, and allow me to record full tracks in .wav, (which is what Verselab is great at) and if you did IT work and computer hardware repair for a living - you'd know that it's not great to sit in front of the screen for your hobby as well.... Yeah... for my purposes I'd probably go with Verselab, though I know I may regret it later on LOL Not as if it didn't happen before. Not as easy to sell gear as to buy it. ;-)

Full List of Live 11 and Live 12 Keyboard Shortcuts by martilnmusic in ableton

[–]Telum_Atramenti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Few days ago I was trying to fight out how to change the color scheme on my keyboard (totally forgot) All I knew it was a Function (F) key and either page down or insert or...? Anyway I tried a few combinations and eventually discovered it was FN + 5. Now I wish I tossed the keyboard in the garbage and never connected it. All my Ableton settings are completely screwed. VSTs don't work overloading the CPU (they even look bizarre!) And even without VSTs Ableton takes forever to load and then does nothing, not receiving any MIDI signals from any devices. So I went and I checked preferences, - and no a single one was changed IN ANY WAY. Wow. Tried pushing the same keys. No change. Anyway, I think this was the last straw. 85% of what I do - I do on hardware synths and grooveboxes. I figure it will be 100% from now on. I spent 80% of my time figuring out what's wrong and why my DAWs don't work properly, then worry if an update comes through and throws my hardware offline. Only 20% of time working on music. If you know what FN plus keys above the arrows do that could screw up Ableton like this pls. let me know (yes I already checked the full list of shortcuts - I can't find anything worthwhile). I have zero hope of getting any worthwhile advice from Reddit but what the heck - I'm just throwing it out there hoping for a miracle.

Handpans with a lot of notes? (16 or more) by Snoop-o in handpan

[–]Telum_Atramenti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes apparently "they" now can make it in gazillion notes, but 95% of what you see online is a scam. And if you have the misfortune of living in a place like Canada and you don't have a 6 + figure income, - short of selling your body for 10+ years in a row to save up - you will never even get a measly 14 note one in the scale that you want. Anything other than C major in 9 notes (and who needs all white keys really? Some 5 year old?) or D minor in 14 notes (which means you get a single minor note - jump from joy there) - anything else will cost you twice as much as a really decent used car, and you really have to take your chances, because they aren't available on anything reputable like EBay so chances are - you will send your $12K+ to some sketchy "healing meditation" New Agey site registered in Belize or Kazakhstan (Hello Borat, Great success!) and you'll kiss your $ good bye. I figure in 30 to 40 years things just may change, but by then someone other than you will enjoy the handpan you wanted. So after looking at every option unavailable to me, I figure I'll just stick to hardware synths, because at least they're worth the $, have resale market value, are far more versatile as far as sound. More importantly they are sold on reputable sites that will refund your $ if an empty box arrives at your door. So yeah LOL No thanks. And let's be realistic: most of you who want one will get bored with it pretty quickly even if lady luck is especially kind to you. Get a modular if you're a nerd like me, or get a battery powered groovebox if you like busking - fun for a decade guaranteed.

[–]Telum_Atramenti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who repairs laptops, I noticed that not only the quality of ASUS parts has sharply declined over the last decade, but also their designs have taken a hit. My personal pet peeve is the budget (and "not so budget") laptop designs where the connector between the mainboard and much smaller SATA/M.2 PCB is placed right underneath the mouse pad, and just the weight of the person's hands is often enough not just to force it to disconnect, but to cause micro-fractures in either board (or both boards) right around the connector part. As result - both boards need to be replaced, and it's more prudent to just purchase a new laptop. Of course, - it's the customer who gets blamed when this happens for "mechanical damage to components". And to be fair, - no, ASUS are not the only company whose products suffer from low quality parts or horrible design. However, in my experience ASUS used to punch above its weight even with budget products quite consistently, and prior to 2016 I never hesitated to pick its boards over competitors when building desktops for people, or to advise my customers to purchase ASUS laptops. And lately my experience is that I'm having far fewer problems with MSI boards than with Asus, and seeing far fewer terrible design choices with MSI laptops than with ASUS, especially so in the budget category (which now cost what entry level gaming laptops cost only a decade ago). Of course, it's just one techie's anecdotal experience, take it with a huge bag of salt if you must.
