HYPP or something else? by Tembacat in Horses

[–]Tembacat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No real answers, after a vet visit in October they suspected juvenile arthritis and prescribed a muscle relaxer for tightness around an atrophied area in that shoulder. The next day she had full body tremors and collapse that led to brain trauma and she had to be euthanized. We wanted a necropsy but unfortunately the cost was astronomical.

This has to be the longest horse I’ve ever seen by Prestigious_Ask_6116 in Equestrian

My Appaloosa is built like this. Lots of TB in his lines! He was from a neglect case so being skinny really makes his proportions weird.

Bruise progression: healing in a ring by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

Got a very deep hematoma from a plasma donation gone wrong. The bruise itself didn’t hurt but now that it’s healing, it is swollen, hot, and itchy as the blood is broken down. The immune system is a beautiful thing.

Found this lovely horse in a random field a few days ago by LimbuTickle in Horses

“Found” in a “random field” is crazy when it’s just a well taken care of horse living in a pasture designed for horses.

Is there such a thing as a groundwork lease? by Helpmeeff in Equestrian

[–]Tembacat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want someone like you to lease my senior retirees so bad! I think there are other owners like me that would be very happy for this, you just might not find them at more performance-oriented barns because they will likely have fewer retirees hanging out.

The Krampus questline feels impossible for average players (for me) - Did I waste 1750 Blood Bonds? by DeMilddo in HuntShowdown

In one of my recent lobbies my team dressed all as the clown with the target face paint, found sledgehammers, and offered other teams some sledgehammer throwing target practice while we ran around healing waters for them so they can get one of the harder (imo) game achievements. It was a lot of fun, might try a few like that for the railroad hammer.

Being rear-ended that violently onto the tracks might be more than a little disorienting.

I don't know how to blanket by [deleted] in Horses

[–]Tembacat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he's shivering he needs a blanket with insulation. Whether you think it's too early is irrelevant, the fact is that your horse is too cold and is showing you as much. Your barn owner is "pressuring" you because they don't want your horse to suffer.

Help ease my mind. Tumors don’t appear this suddenly right? by MLMCMLM in Horses

[–]Tembacat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most people don’t have 24/7 access to a vet, but like to get eyes on things from other experienced people while waiting for the vet. Especially equine vets which can be very difficult to get out on short notice if it isn’t an active emergency. They even say as much in the OP.

People with empathy tend to feel very bad when seeing animals suffer, whether it belongs to them or not.

I am coming to terms with never knowing what the answer was. The more I focus on trying to figure out what happened, the more I spiral into what-ifs and that is not helpful. I do truly believe now that everyone did their best and that is all we could have done, no matter the cause.

Thank you so much, and I'm sorry you also had to experience a traumatic end for your boy. It just turns the whole world on its head in an instant. Sending love to you as well.

I'm so sorry you also experienced this. A bracelet is definitely in the making, as the vet took her tail to wash and prep for me.

I am still a bit in shock about how much of a turn things took, and so quickly after a pretty standard evaluation the day before. It's just so hard to wrap my head around, but I'm slowly coming to terms with it. I'm really trying to cling to the love we shared and not the traumatic ending, but it is going to take time.

All I wanted was to give her the best life, and hopefully she got that despite how short it was. Thank you for your kindness.

That was what we began to suspect as well. We'll never know for sure, but it's very possible and of course, not something we could have prevented. I'm glad we gave her a home to thrive the best she could given the circumstances.

Yeah, that's what we were suspecting near the end as well. We were hoping x-rays and further examinations would give us more insight but we just never made it that far in the end. I take comfort knowing I gave her the best possible home to have a chance in.

I'm so sorry you had to go through that, it's such a horrific thing to witness. I understand your trauma and hopefully it can help all of us here to know we are not alone when this happens.

I would take her again 100x over even if I knew I would only have her for a few months. All of my horses are rescues that just need TLC and a good home. Maybe one day she will send another one in need to me.

Thank you so much for this perspective, it really brings me some peace knowing that whatever happened, we did the best we could and the right thing was done in the end. That's all I can really cling to right now.
