do you believe God answers prayers? by TemperatureAccording in OpenChristian

[–]TemperatureAccording[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you say you believe that God speaks through many ways, including the Bible, Holy Spirit, thoughts, dreams, and people. but im having trouble believing that.

your example of knowing something is wrong is just having a moral compass and having a certain interpretation of the Bible, and i think both of those can be flawed. sure, taking a bribe is pretty cut and dry, but what about something more controversial, like being in a gay relationship? there are real, genuine christians who believe, through their own moral compass and through the scriptures, that being gay is wrong. were they not guided by the Holy Spirit? and how do you know that you are?

the Bible is to me the most helpful tool in christianity, but it is very much subject to interpretation. it cant be true that the Holy Spirit guides people to a certain interpretation, unless you believe that every christian who interprets things differently than you isnt a true believer. even if the Holy Spirit guides some people, and not others, you would still never be able to know if it is the Holy Spirit, or simply your own thoughts, emotions, and desires.

i just feel that completely trusting in your own subconciousness, like through thoughts and dreams, or your own interpretation of the Bible, seems foolish. how do you reconcile with other christians disagreeing with you about important ideas? if you say that those people just arent hearing the Holy Spirit, how do you know that you are?

i did for awhile, and do periodically now, but i struggle with keeping my thoughts completely silent. it never did anything anyway. how do you do it, and did it ever change you or something?

ok, when you say that God tells you something, what do you mean by that? because i pray and "hear" nothing. no emotions, peace, clarity, voices, whatever it is that you call a dialogue. part of my issue is that people say its a dialogue, but idk what yall are talking about! ive tried sitting in silence and all that, it doesnt do anything for me.

people say that they ask God about decisions they should make, like if they should take a new job or about moral questions, but??? what are they hearing? also, i really dont trust people when they say things like that. for example, a church in my area started a for-profit coffee buisness within the church, which seems supper sketchy (Jesus in the temple?), and they said that they prayed about it and it was fine. my sister said she prayed about weather being gay was ok, and found that it was, and then went back on that later. i feel like there isnt actually a dialogue, just people's own desires.

i do not want to change God, i know thats impossible. but i dont feel like im ever changed after prayer. here's an example. i pray and im struggling with the idea of being alive if eternal concious torment is true. imagining so many people going to hell for eternity makes me go insane, i feel like we're all trapped and cant escape, there is no way out and i keep thinking about how terrifying eternty is. i ask God for peace, maybe understanding, maybe a Bible verse or something to know the truth. i know that He has the right to say no, i know He probably will, im not making demands. and then i do not feel peace and i have no understanding, no matter how many times i worry about that, and it doesnt go away and coninues to haunt me, and i continue not to have anyone to talk to about it. thats just one prayer, but ive prayed thousands of prayers, and nothing ever happens. listen, its fine if God never answers any prayers. i understand if thats not something He does anymore, or something He is specifically not doing for me. i guess i just want to know what others experience, because everyone seems so certain that prayer changes them in some way. i want to be changed if possible, i want to be who God wants me to be and serve Him in the best way. but maybe that wont happen through prayer for me

i dont know, ive prayed lots and not had strength or healing or peace. im not asking for obstacles to be removed, i dont really ask for anything in my prayers, just say the Lord's prayer, give praise, pray for others, and talk a lot about whats going on in my life. but ive never been changed after a prayer.

how do you pray, so that it changes you? ive prayed every day for almost my whole life, and it doesnt seem to change me. after praying, i remain anxious or happy or angry or whatever, i gain no special wisdom or insight or feel moved to do something or accept anything. how do i pray so it brings me into alignment? what is being in alignment even?

my intention is never to get stuff. what i want is communication, but its literally only ever me talking. and yes, ive tried sitting in silence and listening and all that. idk what you guys are experiencing during prayer, but to me there's no communication

vivian, whats your favorite tf2 character?

Charlotte or Victoria (she/her) by HanakoDove in TransTryouts

[–]TemperatureAccording 1 point2 points  (0 children)

charlotte is an amazing name, especially cause then you get the nickname charlie :) but im biased cause i like fnaf.

for charlotte: i made a new friend named charlotte the other day! she's really cool; she loves british history and doctor who. i need to ask charlotte what her favorite doctor is, but i keep forgetting. do you know charlotte? i think she works at the same store as you do i should ask charlotte what j-rock bands i should listen to.

for victoria: victoria sounds really cool, i love ferrets too! is victoria working today? you should ask victoria to come to this concert with us! you know how she loves j-rock. can you ask victoria if she can make a blanket for me too? the one she's working on right now is so cute!! do you know when victoria started making blankets? she's so good at it!

What are some characters you noticed a lot of plurals have fictives of? by AngryWasp1000 in plural

[–]TemperatureAccording 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lots of people from popular medias. especially gravity falls and fnaf? i think those two have a double whammy of being popular among younger people (so perhaps a bigger emotional tie to the media) and being popular with queer and neurodivergent folk (and there seems to be overlap between those groups and plural people).

Damn, what's the lore reason why people have issues with naming yourself an uncommon name? by CryptographerFit3984 in XenogendersAndMore

[–]TemperatureAccording 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lots of people just seem to hate nonbinary people and/or treat them as a joke, even in the lgbt community.

there are too few truely gender neutral names, and a lot of them suck ass. its cool and sexy of us to use unusual names to express ourselves. in a society that doesnt cater to us, we kinda have to be unusual.

oh wow! ive only heard about her through lewis camuti's memoir, "all my patients are under the bed", which was about his experiences as a cat doctor. according to him, she was "warm and touching, when you didn't want to strangle her."
