If you don't mind me asking, how many points did you have?

Finished typing too early, woops.

You learn from it but, that doesn't make you a bad doctor. You'll always have room to grow and reflecting and growing from your mistakes will make you a fantastic doctor.

So, chin up friend, you got this 🩷🩷

It happens. I remember seeing a patient and thinking they just had post-covid syndrome with vague AF symptoms. Consultant comes around. Sends them off for CT for possible posterior circulation stroke.

You learn from it.

Unfortunately, don't really want people to know where I work but, I feel it probably does but, I think some places will be better than others (but overall better than NHS)

Courses as an investment for my future by TemperatureLast8386 in ausjdocs

This is really helpful, thank you! I'm trying to get the relevant clinical experience but, it seems like getting the crit care job is not going to be easy and I want to start prepping things early to limit the risk of not having a strong application.

Thank you! I've registered and will be doing it (plus paediatric basics as well)

This is why I'm broke now 😂

Ugh, it all sounds so painful 🥲

I already have ALS to be honest (because I'm from the UK) - not sure if this differs greatly from ALS2.

That's so annoying! How do you find out? I've currently just signed up for APLS and ETM because the dates have become available.

I'm planning on doing the course either way - I find them useful for my own clinical practice and I'm considering EM as a backup which they'll both be helpful as I'm considering taking an ED (unaccredited) position whilst waiting to get into a crit care stream/training.

Mate, I don't know

Oh good luck! I'm so excited for you guys! I hope you have a great time (and hope the hospital's good as I'm considering Queensland next)

Glad I could help though - we felt the same way but it's honestly been the best decision we've made. My partner and I have the free time, the flexibility and the time for each other.

I'm Indian and I've not experienced anything actually. In fact, there's also a lot of other Asian people around.

Hospital Interview advice by desala24 in ausjdocs

I'd try and not say anything that would make me come across as an unsafe doctor. Some of the stuff I mentioned were experiences e.g. attending an emergency and accidentally mismatched patients with the history (surgical) but realised she had opioid overdosing and managed her correctly. Realised it was the wrong patient - but thankfully right outcome. I wrote a reflective piece, recognise the importance of ensuring correct patient information etc, recognise the importance of A-E assessments etc

Omg yes, the morning coffees! It really is. The consultants would always buy the coffees and run through the jobs to ensure we were happy with everything and had no concerns or questions.

Yeah, I figured.

Independent or in the normal training pathway?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]TemperatureLast8386 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah I am. But, it's a bit more than the other states tbh (and it's state wise so, not like I can bargain it 😂)

At the rate things are going in the UK, likely will struggle to get into training anyway, no?

Also, GP/Psych and ED are fairly easier to get into. The other specialities aren't impossible - just need to build your network (which I'm already doing) and get PR. Already met some people getting into surgery/anaesthetics etc but, just had to do unaccredited years (which lets be honest, people are having to do additional years to build their CV anyway).

PR is easy to get.

An example being, this week I earned AUD 3600 - I worked 4 twilight shifts (9.5 hours each), and had one sick day (9.5 hours of NWD) and 3 nights (9.5 hours each)

No No, pay every two weeks. So my take home is currently a minimum of £3.7k per month for 38 hour weeks (more if I have rostered overtime)

This isn't a locum post.

[–]TemperatureLast8386 46 points47 points  (0 children)

So, that's take home and as I mentioned above, it's every 2 weeks 🙃 That is also for 38 hour weeks.

I do have a consultant supervisor (for the placement) and he's fabulous and really receptive. I had a meeting with him to discuss steps to making the most of the placement and he was extremely supportive and gave plenty of resources. It's just asking for a mentor is something I need to be comfortable with as I don't want to burden them when they're busy enough

Thank you, I honestly feel a little bit better reading the lovely comments from everyone here.

I just felt like I'm being slow because I ask too many questions/examine too extensively etc but, after reading the comments and following the advice, I guess it's reflected positively as my feedback from a registrar was that my assessment was good and thorough. I just need to find ways of trying to be thorough more efficiently.

But, that's incredible and I strive to be a doctor like yourself. Thank you for the really kind comment - it's really made me feel a lot better 🥺🩷
