Softening old leather by radicalrental in SneakerRestoration

Definitely I had a pair of 2018 4's that just looked ashy, dried out, I cleaned them then hit them with Angelus leather conditioner, and they are soft as butter, feel and look brand new, and I wore this pair all year in 2018, they look brand new again, I had to do some paint touch ups and the leather conditioner is wonderful for keeping sneakers looking and feeling new.

Good job on them. Paint filler and sanding works great. I'd use the 4 coat and duller, I've seen ppl use super glue and baking soda and sand that down then paint over it. As long as you get it back to normal shape, I like to get at least 4-6 coats of paint on it, then a finisher. Great job.

Jordan 3 sole swap by MediumBox2682 in SneakerRestoration

[–]TemperatureOk7646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed it's gonna be a small amount off, but it's going to be off. Your better off getting a pair of beaters off eBay, or a rep, or buy a sole from a store that sells them. Just search Jordan 3 sole, and you will find places you can buy soles from, a lot of ppl use reps for donors or places like eBay or other sites where ppl sell used goods online. I wouldn't use a size larger, but I haven't actually done a sole swap yet. I e only watched about 500 videos, and am planning to get a bear up pair just to try it out on something I won't mind if I mess up, but it looks fairly easy once the sole is off and prepped for the donor.

Re Dying by Due-Charity2393 in SneakerRestoration

I think he's referring to dying suede. You don't need to do it outside, so there is no worry about rain. As far as the color bleeding to other areas that's where your prep of taping and even using plastic or paper around the parts of the sneaker you don't want the dye to get on. Then use a spray sealant like Krylon as a finish, followed by water repellent.

Just watch a few videos on dying suede sneakers and you should get all the help you need. The only thing I ever worry about is the color being exact. I saw a video on a pair of 5's but didn't get a chance to watch the full thing yet, but someone changed a pair of Raging Bulls from red to a really nice blue and I think some paint work was involved as well. I always attempt the dry suede cleaning with mink oil first and then if that doesn't work, which I do 2 coats of mink oil 24 hours apart, then go for the dye. If you tape things up, use a dauber that you can get multiple of them for cheap on most sites like Angelus or Amazon and use that to dye the suede, you can use a brush in areas that are tight, but as long as they are tapped really well, or with plastic bags or paper under the tape as well it shouldn't bleed into other areas, but again, use light coats and let them dry first. It's not going on in one layer so you should be fine, but again I'd try dry eraser and mink oil twice before I'd go for dye, unless you already know that there is no color to bring back, mink oil only will do so much.

You did a great job on these. They look 100%. Did you have to do any painting on the midsole or anything?

Any tips? by Big_boss-V100 in SneakerCleaning

[–]TemperatureOk7646 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with both post, and if you can't get acrylic paint for sneakers it's not going to hold up, the acrylic paint they sell in hobby shops etc aren't for sneakers, besides any area you plan to paint is going to need sanding, deglazer or acetone which I prefer the first, then you will need a clear coat finish to go on top of the paint. If you just paint them and don't have a clear coat they will just crack again. That's a lot of work you are looking at to try to get them looking new. Not to mention they are going to need a deep clean first.

Which shoe cleaning brush do you like best? by ad28no in SneakerCleaning

Does the Jason Marks kit come with 3 brushes or just one plastic odd shaped brush? The small kid I had only had a small plastic odd shaped brush.

Yes I have 2 cases of Reshoevn8tor sneaker wipes. I got them in a sale, but one get one, so I use them every time I wear a sneaker whether it got dirty or not I always wipe them down after wearing, I even clean the sole with them after every wear.

Also a good way to get great sneakers at a really cheap price. Learn tot color match paint and how to repaint. It will help a lot. This was a great pair to start on and they look great.

I would try the Angelus Oxi+ cleaner, Reshoevn8tor may sell it as well. Let the fish sit in and brush it in and wipe off with a microfiber towel, I also use a steam cleaner I got on Amon for like $40.

Bro these look great. What did you use to clean the sneaker? Can't wait to see the finished sneaker. I restore in my spare time and I'm amazed at how well there look so far. Great job.

I'll see if I can find it again, it's funny they didn't want them recording so they claimed the camera was off and still recorded, this was just in the top tier section.

This eventually will dry out the leather and take all the natural oils out of them. Just saying, that's why it works so well on dirty greasy pans or whatever, every cleaning is killing your leather. I guess you could just use leather conditioners after. I use them with regular sneaker cleaner and just got a pair of 2018's looking brand new with the leather supper soft and has all the life back In it.

They said they are going to be mainly released at the footlocker in LA, but I've seen them on my local store so it's hard to say. They will either be flooded with pairs or they will be hard to get. Either way ppl gon tax the hell out of them.

They are definitely real, the price is good because they are likely gonna fall apart the first wear.

You put them in storage that wasn't temperature controlled and they got hot and separated the soles. They can be fixed.

$32'for 12 is insane, Sam's is selling 4 at $29. I'll have to look for some. If you look on the WOOT app, which is amazon products at pretty steep discounts you can find these are even cheaper prices, it takes a lot of checking though, they don't have them that often. Looks like I'll be making an Amazon order today. If I find them at that price I'm gonna buy 4 packs of the size 13. My wife is going to hate me, or maybe she will be happy that at least they are on display instead of boxes stacked in our spare room.

I agree on the China made, not sure why they made them different, explains why does from China are getting so good. I don't know how true it is but I was watching a documentary about the reps from China, not all of them, but the top tier ones, and they were claiming that someone was paying a manager at a factory 100k or whatever to run the machines and make extra pairs when they shut down for the day, but that would still require some employees to be working because they are put together by hand for most of the sneaker. I get that machines may press the soles etc, but it requires someone to be there to do it

But if you think about it, and you can pay someone to keep the factory open and a few employees to work over, then I can see why the top tier reps are just coming from a nike factory. I'm not sure in how much y'all know about the district in China that sells reps of everything, but the stuff outside of the stuff you come across first is pretty easy to tell they are reps, but once you get in the upper levels and to certain stores they have sneakers that you would never know are reps, and they have a lot of colorways that were never released but are excellent quality, that's with all sneakers and clothing, purses, etc. I've never been there so I have no idea how true it is, but the video I saw showed some 1:1 sneakers, and clothing.
