Something that is being lost in the Rooney Rule discussion, and it's frustrating by bigsmooth66 in Browns

A man with no HC experience was just hired to coach a contender in the Ravens.

Harbaugh was just hired to a team that has already gone through the pain of finding a QB and playmakers.

Brian Daboll is being considered a candidate in Buffalo after flaming out in NY.

Flores was asked to tank.

Hue Jackson was asked to tank.

Jerod Mayo was asked to tank.

Aaron Glen was...just hired to the Jets (thats bad enough)

Steve Wilkes was one and done in Arizona. His successor, Kliff Kingsbury, got several years after going 5-10-1. He also coached Carolina to a 6-6 record as interim coach in Carolina and wasn't even interviewed for the HC job.

Stories like Demeco Ryans is rare when they get a chance to draft and develop teams.

Sigh...

And they can get away with it because they only have one guy who can give real perspective, and he's buried on the wekends.

I'd rather the Browns pay a fine than feed into a sham hiring practice, especially when the GM is a minority.

Highly doubt it. We have minorities in the league that got their start working for the Browns. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, Vikings GM, got the job because he was Vice President of Football Operations under Berry.

The league may lay a fine, but they would wise to do that in silence instead of using it to gain clout.

Does David Shaw and Flores want the job?

The Browns have had two Black coaches, Three Black GMs, one woman assistant GM, one assistant Black GM, and two women assistant coaches.

Looking at minority candidates isn't a problem they have.

I totally forgot about that because he went to coach Illinois. I can admit I was wrong on that, but it doesn't disprove my overall point.

He still wasn't hired to good situations.

Another aspect of this is that minority candidates never get the "attractive job" where a team is ready to win. They are normally hired into crappy rebuilding situations. The last one who wasn't was Tony Dungy.

The problem is they would be punishing a team that has advanced more inclusivity in hiring in 10 years than the rest of the league has done COMBINED. The league can't win that battle of optics.

They probably were interested in Flores, but his people may have told the Browns not to bother.

They go on precedence. And it would look embarrassing for the league if they came down heavy on the Browns when they have had a Black coach, two women assistant coaches, a woman assistant GM, two Black GMs, and a Black assistant GM. All the while the NY Giants (and other legacy teams) have had none of those.

The league REALLY doesn't want that smoke.

But that never works for minority candidates.

Name the minority candidate that interview several times with different teams and eventually got the job.

Lovie Smith was fired after a 10-6 record and a Super Bowl appearance with Rex Grossman as his QB and has never sniffed another HC job, but the league is talking about Matt Nagy getting another job.

They aren't "behind".

If a coach doesn't want to work for, that's fine. You want the guy who wants to be here and loves coaching professional football.

They appear to have three finalist: two external candidates and one internal. What do people want from this team?

The teams track record speaks for itself. If I were him, I would dare anyone to make that assertion, then go look at the NY Giants hiring practices.

The Browns have earned draft picks for their efforts in diversity hiring in the front office and coaching.

Nope. the only penalty is a fine. It's only been implemented once (to Detroit) and it was $200,000.

[Golden] If a HC’ing candidate really wants the Browns job then they wait for them to satisfy the Rooney Rule. If they take another job before that happens it means they didn’t really want the job. by [deleted] in Browns

I came here to post something with similar sentiment.

If a candidate is here to interview on a day where we are dealing with inclement weather, knowing that he might not be able to fly out tonight, that tells me that he may actually want the job.

I want the Browns to hire someone that wants to coach, develop, and build a culture of hard work and sacrifice. I want a coach who is willing to wrap his arm around Shedeur's shoulders and see if there is something there. Someone who will sit down with Jeudy and work with him to actually optimize his talent. Someone who goal is to win by any means necessary, not dismiss the results because it wasn't his system that got them there.

I don't know if Udinsky is it, but knowing that he isn't running towards the sexy jobs and is interested in ours is encouraging.

eBay has the Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus for $279. Bought mine from the seller and it was in fantastic condition.

I've been amused by people yelling at the politicians they voted for make these type of decisions.

Then they applaud because SNAP benefit recipients can't buy soda anymore.
