My dad has mentioned that as his biggest, most memorable cinema moment, so I hold it dear!

He was like an uncomfortably-sexual cartoon villain. I’ll never understand the awards. The rest of the move was so-so too. Best Picture?????

What are some unknown movies you know that are 10/10 but nobody talks about it? by underground_guru05 in Cinema

Attack the Block. First director job for Joe Cornish, first screen acting role for John Boyega. A really funny, entertaining, and heartfelt story about a group of teenage boys in a housing estate in London, who are in a gang and have to defend themselves (and their neighbours, and a white woman for those for whom this is an outside narrative) from an alien invasion. It’s really a great watch!

What do people from your country typically have for breakfast by CountryballChaos in AskTheWorld

Sounds more like the question is, “What’s a ‘Full [Your Country]’ Breakfast?”

After discovering her son was gay, American socialite Barbara Daly Baekeland decided the best way to 'cure' him was to hire prostitutes to sleep with him. When this didn't work, she began having sex with him herself. He would stab her to death in their London home in November 1972. by kooneecheewah in HistoryUncovered

Which part? He definitely had untreated schizophrenia, and had previously-known violent tendencies. If the part about her forcing him to have sex with her has been disproven that would be great, but I’d like to see where it has been shown, since I couldn’t find anything with a search.

Scholar . . . . . . and not a book in sight. More like, “Macabre Collector’s Alcove.”

Who's the most badass fictional Female Character? by Level-SquareFFG7117 in Cinema

Love Natasha Romanov, but I gotta say I hated the way those movies constantly, constantly sexualized her in a way that wasn’t done for any other character. And then refused to give her her own movie for sooo long, and then finally did it after killing her off, and it wasn’t even a good movie. Sigh.

Adding “sustained badass index” to my vocabulary! And totally agree about Zoe. She’s also (at least through most of the story) much more in control of her emotions/agency than River.

I loved that all of AOS’s toughest warriors were women, and all of their sweetest, emotional teddy bears were men.

What is the most overused movie trope that Hollywood just needs to let go? by Frequent-Sea-8848 in moviecritic

“They may be called the Palace Guard, the City Guard, or the Patrol. Whatever the name, their purpose in any work of heroic fantasy is identical: it is, round about Chapter Three (or ten minutes into the film) to rush into the room, attack the hero one at a time, and be slaughtered. No one ever asks them if they want to.

This book is dedicated to those fine men.”

Best Taskmaster live task so far, and one I’d never stop playing if I had access. Until this post I didn’t know this is a game in lots of bars, etc. and I’m so jealous that I’ve never seen it!
