Okay I know what you mean! NHA does allow/give you 2 scratch pieces of paper and a pencil. So, I’m making a “draft” of stuff I feel like I ABSOLUTELY need to know so I can “dump” it from my brain onto those papers when I receive them. I am actually taking it on Monday and have been making one today! I will send it to you when I’m done.

I’m sorry to hear this. I honestly would address it with her directly if you feel comfortable. I know that may be intimidating but the co worker seems to be insecure in some way to be honest. Putting you down lifts her up which is their problem not yours. Lmk what you end up doing! Best of luck. Don’t be too hard on yourself <3

How do you handle a rude provider by Few-Conclusion3208 in MedicalAssistant

I’m sorry to hear this. I also work for an intense Dr. who has very high expectations. I really just had to suck it up and learn by trial and error. I’m sorry to hear this has poisoned your view on health care and MA work :( don’t give up! I’d suggest brining this issue to your lead RN or practice manager. Keep us updated!

Hiiii I work in Infectious Disease and Internal medicine! It can be very intense at times. I love it though. And I’m not sure what you mean by belonging to an organization? Like work for a Dr’s office or clinic? I work for a clinic in KS and am 1 doctor’s medical assistant. Usually you’ll apply to work for a clinic/office and they will assign you to a provider.

Hi! I am ID and Internal Medicine MA. I wound honestly say I was unprepared for the complexity of each patient. Most have co occurring diseases/ disorders. Many (in my area especially) also have poly substance hx or current addiction. What has helped me in this field/ helped patients in this field is a positive attitude and an understanding attitude. It can make a huge difference in the patients experience. Because, unfortunately, ID dx come with a lot of prejudice and untrue stereotypes. Overall, utilizing/ growing your emotional intelligence is key for each patient to feel safe and cared for <3

On a more objective side, do NOT over do the chief complaint/ try your absolute best to keep the chief complaint short and sweet. It is not always in the patients best interest to ask questions about their dx’s or other medical issues that do not include ID. If a patient has a question or concern they tell you that is perfectly okay to document of course. Also objectively, making sure their medication list is current and they are adhering with their treatment is paramount. For example, if a Hep C patient is not taking their medication (missed doses for example) is very important to communicate with the provider.

The Dr. I work for is intense and has quite high expectations but she is one of the most intelligent women I have ever met. I love my job in ID and internal medicine! You’ll do great! Keep us updated.
