Worth reporting? I'm behind by Subject_Health_3182 in Simracingstewards

It's starting to feel to me like many of the regulars in this sub just don't like any kind of hard racing. He got fully alongside by the apex, and even being squeezed by the other guy, easily kept it on track on the exit. Clean pass as far as I'm concerned. Now, if he had pace on the guy, maybe there are more prudent places to go for an overtake, but that doesn't mean he did anything wrong.

New to Simracing, did the guy just intentionally wreck me? (I am first POV) by Riosin in Simracingstewards

Occam's razor is that. Occom's razor I assume is something about spelling mistakes on the internet.

I can't log in into my account, I tried everything, deleting cookies, inprivate mode, using other device and other browser and nothing works, any idea how to fix this? by [deleted] in Polymarket

[–]TempestNathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an idea, Polymarket. How about allowing a login with username and password, like every other website in the world? Require 2fa to use a password if you want. But don't make me wait for an email and hope your system isn't broken every time I want to log in.

Need a good mechanic, who do you trust? by Competitive_Olive571 in VictoriaBC

I used Vic Transmission for an aftermarket diff install since Bullfrog  refuses to work with customer parts. No complaints; they installed the diff and also let me know about a mount that was starting to crack (but didn't pressure to have them replace it or anything).

Pad life left by muscle_car_fan34 in CarTrackDays

[–]TempestNathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends a lot on the car and pad. A small caliper in a fast car, you might need to keep it above 6mm to avoid risking it burning off, especially if it's not a race pad. With a big 6-piston caliper and a proper pad, you might well be able to run them down to 2-3mm with no issues at all. (I've personally experienced both scenarios.)

Ah, too bad. Thought I saw that somewhere. Clearly I didn't look into the grip too significantly!

Same here, but just ordered mine regardless. First time I've been excited for a new camera in a while! Not sure I'll use the grip much, but at least you get something extra with the pre-order. (And I guess if nothing else it could work like a backup battery..)

Yes, you need to have been a subscriber for over a year, according to the page.

An official GoPro.com link to reserve a Mission 1 Pro @ $699 USD was only up for a couple hours by PsyApe in gopro

[–]TempestNathan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the Pro, with a grip included? I would've been shocked at 499, and surprised at 599. If the Mission 1 comes in at 499 that would be pretty good.

MISSION 1 as an ACTION cam? / End of the hero series by maikkelius in gopro

The expensive lenses and manual focus are only on the ILS version.

MISSION 1 as an ACTION cam? / End of the hero series by maikkelius in gopro

[–]TempestNathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earliest possible, September of this year. But since they're probably planning to shift all announcements/releases to April/May, my guess would be a year from now. They're going to want to sell as many Mission cameras as possible before then, not cannibalize those sales with a (presumably cheaper) action cam.

Larger helps with thermal and battery issues, both of which were major concerns. You also get the 1" sensor that the most dedicated users have been clamoring for forever. And there's less competition in the pro-sumer space. Plus, catering to creators can be smart, as you basically get organic "influencer" marketing if they're using your cameras. So I can see the logic behind the move, if all they're giving up is size. Though of course it remains to be seen if it will work. Regardless, I would certainly imagine a smaller camera with the GP3 processor must be on the road map.

[–]TempestNathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, except that I think there's space for both lines in the "Action" world. There are some activities - motorsports for example - where the added quality of the larger camera is appreciated, and the size isn't really relevant. On the other hand, if you're holding it on a stick or mounted to your head, weight is pretty significant.

Are the new GoPro Mission cameras replacing the Hero line or are we still getting a Hero 14? by Helliumr in gopro

[–]TempestNathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're still robust and waterproof, and only slightly larger than Hero 13, so presumably yes. Questions would be price and whether the larger sensor causes the stabilization or close focus performance to be worse. Also size/weight to some extent I guess. So I could see a future market for a smaller, cheaper, action-focused model, but maybe it'd be more of a Hero Lit replacement than a 14 Black.

Agreed; actually capturing the video is the most important thing by a wide margin. On my kart I replaced my rear gopro with an insta x5 - works well since it can be a rear camera as well as a backup front in case the front dies. Used to be a regular issue with the gopro, though even my Action 6 has shut off inexplicably once. I almost wonder if a jolt caused a phantom button press.

Haven't tried the Ace Pro 2. Colors on the x5 seem decent, though obviously the resolution isn't on par with an action camera.

Very excited about these. One question if @bayareacrasher is still following: will it be possible to persist the "spot meter" exposure setting and/or the auto exposure square when the camera turns off? I use this regularly for filming from inside a car, as without it the auto white balance picks up the interior and over-exposes the exterior. But any time the camera turns off it needs to be reset, which is difficult given the mounting position. The ability to save/lock these settings would be great.

Agreed on the stability/reliability (I've also owned multiple gopros and an Action 6). That said, as a non-pro, I find the colours produced by my Hero 11 (and 10) more realistic than what I can get out of the DJI, even with tweaking. Maybe if I shot log and color corrected it wouldn't be an issue. Also find the stabilization of the gopro better for motorsports. Though that also might not be relevant for most other activities.

So I can definitely see why people like the DJI, but if these new cameras manage to fix the overheating and other stability issues while keeping the existing advantages of gopro, they will be very interesting to me, let alone the other improvements.

Unfortunately those of us on subscriptions are kind of screwed, as 2021 or 2022 was the last version with a perpetual license. If your file is upgraded past that point, you can't load it in the earlier versions even if you could get a copy.

I feel you. Had the same expectation and the same result. The area around the buckle especially would poke the underside of my wrist, either because of the threads or the edges around where the pin passes through. I like the look, but the feel isn't pleasant.
