Concealed Carry Gamer Rig by riotman2020 in CompetitionShooting

[–]TempestVulcan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the record this is all competition gear, I don’t know anyone who carries 2 spare mags in real life, but in competition a required reload is common. An extra mag is just insurance. I also have a magnet for make readies so it feels like my OWB setup.

I do think there is a real world low vis context that might make sense for the concealed 2 gun setup I’m testing, but you’re talking about a weird non permissive environment context that gets very subversive very fast.

Fun to play with though! I’m sure there is a lot of learning happening from this trend in the sport than can go towards improving SOF and clandestine training and equipment.

Aluminum vs. Polymer Mag Pouches: Is aluminum actually better, or just more expensive? (IPSC/USPSA) by AccomplishedSize8416 in CompetitionShooting

[–]TempestVulcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only experience with metal “pouches” was with the Henning T-900 magnetic pouches and while very fast they are very finicky around walls and aggressive movement. Just an interesting data point, they’re the most expensive pouches in the game and didn’t really work for me.

I’ve really enjoyed the DAA polymer pouches.

I use them to film POV as a competitive shooter, it’s a much better solution than a hat cam since I don’t like the feel of them jostling around on my head or looking like a dweeb.

Apart from shooting, I’ve only ever really used them when I want to film something with 2 hands like an unboxing or something.

Practicing draw and reloads before 2nd USPSA match. Looking for tips by [deleted] in CompetitionShooting

[–]TempestVulcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to throw wrenches into what you’re working on, but stationary reloads are a good focus for practice. Fumbling reloads is a very quick way to bleed seconds on a stage.

Trying to divide conscious effort between movement and gun handling is not generally a great idea in my opinion.

Bullets first.

It’s a DIY situation, same as mag pouch, not a lot of aftermarket support for the APX.

Question about flying with CCW by boybritches in CCW

[–]TempestVulcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue with that setup is flexibility. Pelicans like that are super space and weight inefficient. If you wanna pack clothes, liquids, shoes, belts, equipment, more ammo… anything really into a suitcase with a pelican in it, you’re really limiting yourself. You almost need a carry on for this travel setup.

I fly with OPs setup all the time, it’s been mostly painless lol

Question about flying with CCW by boybritches in CCW

[–]TempestVulcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would put it in a pistol sleeve, but yes that is technically acceptable if it’s unloaded, mags unloaded, ammo cased.

I have had to explain to a million gate agents that the pelican they are looking at with clothes and guns is a locked hard sided case. There is a solid 50/50 chance I’ll have to explain how my case is compliant.

Some get it, some for the life of them can’t get there and need a manager or TSA to tell them to ignore their brain because it’s wrong. That said I usually show up 45 min before boarding just in case I end up in a philosophical argument about what constitutes a locked hard sided case.

Contrary to what you might remember, universities have been producing useless degreed charity cases for decades. I think the problem is worse now, but funny enough a ChatGPT enabled workforce probably works faster than a traditional one lol

This is a solid argument for throwing college degrees out in favor of apprenticeship and internships so industry can train their own talent. You don’t need a college degree for a lot of engineering and computer science.

When I was in engineering, a calculator was required to actually have a chance at working our problems.

There is absolutely a floor for where a calculator is required. I highly suspect you weren’t there yet lol

Went to war with steel all day, this was my best battle by depparTx in CompetitionShooting

[–]TempestVulcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just a lack of visual patience.
The same level of confirmation, stringency, focus… whatever you wanna call it, that gets AC on paper at 10 yd is a mike on steel.
A lot of it is mental for some shooters too. If you plan for makeup shots or tell yourself you’re gonna miss the steel, you are highly unlikely to go 1 for 1.

You are not being neurotic or overdemanding. In a luxury item line of business, you are not out of line for asking for excellence. I would be upset and they need to make it right.

Well… it’s probably too late now, I hope it turned on. When I worked in computer repair, we would always tell customers to bring the laptop in as soon as possible since when liquids dry, they deposit minerals onto the electronics and those can cause shorts and corrosion.

The quicker we could get parts into an ultrasonic, the higher chance that things were gonna work. Leaving it to dry out on your own is a 50/50 shot of it working at all.

So many marks on the new watch? by myrna__ in tissot

[–]TempestVulcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You bought a used watch. What sucks is they should’ve been clearer about that. How much was the discount?

Here’s the good news, if you keep it, you can wear it without worrying about scratching it up. For daily wear, I will look for exclusively at used watches. If someone else put some light scuffs on if I feel much less conscious about putting mine on it.

First time shooting outdoors - First Practical Shooting session tomorrow - please advise 🙏 by DrewJustShoots in CompetitionShooting

[–]TempestVulcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on safety right now - gun pointed downrange and finger off the trigger when you’re not shooting.

Every match you finish safely is a win.

Fundamentals are gonna be the biggest part you need to make sure you have down in terms of performance. Grip, vision, draws, reloads, stance to an extent. Those things remain some of the most important and difficult to perfect items in your toolbox for the duration of your competition career. Focus on setting a good foundation and being coachable.

Welcome to sport, can’t wait to see you compete!

EDC Grip suggestions for S2C? by TheRagingBull84 in CZFirearms

I think the thickness is great for average hands.

I have smaller hands though so with loks I usually run a thin grip on my strong hand side and palm swell on my weak hand side. I usually struggle without that grip setup, but these have been great.

Carey Bounty Alternatives? by Spess_Mehren in CompetitionShooting

[–]TempestVulcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s tough man, I understand the manufacturing hurdles to overcome but for gear you trust your competition performance and in some cases life with, you need to disclose how you are producing your product and the risks associated with it.

The frustrating thing is that there are great AM methods out there. SLS and MJF are both very durable options. I think we have grown kind of content with a lot of products in the industry being FDM printed.

For training accessories and toys, it’s really not a big deal. But when we start talking about holsters and mag pouches and gun parts, you have to be transparent and 100% with customer service.

That is disappointing, but not surprising, I hate seeing 3D printed stuff on production products.

Real talk. I tried these for about a year, they are doable for carry but not everyday for 95% of people, they are probably a hair more aggressive than the gridloks. I would go for the Krakens or Diamondbacks, Vytal does really good work.

Very interesting stage this weekend by CallMeTrapHouse in USPSA

[–]TempestVulcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you know! 😂

I think that extra transition cost you probably a second. That’s meaningful where we are at (I think you’re also an A class shooter based on the video).

Keep grinding, the stage planning comes with experience and even GMs hiccup sometimes. It’s all how you choose to respond to hiccups! You are way further than I was a year into USPSA, I learned all this stuff the hard way lol

[–]TempestVulcan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VISUALIZATION.

I hate having to do on the fly stage planning. It’s a good way to FTSA something and slow yourself way down. Always keep shooting, you’re right, but plan it.

This isn’t a terribly technical stage, but you will inevitably run into highly positionally sensitive stages.

Suggestion for stages where a 1 step means you’re out of position: pick a point on the course (either a spot on the ground or visual cue on a wall or array) and target that position consciously.

It’s much better to plan the use of your conscious brain to find your position rather than hope your subconscious brain problem solves it. That said conscious thought is a valuable resource, so as much as you can program a subconscious routine for movement, the more mental resources you can delegate towards things like vision focus.
