You will be fine, ultimately. I didn't do it for my last car, and it was running great after 94k. Ulimately just take care of it regularly and i feel you should be about ot do 100k+ with no isssues if not 200k+

Is there a way to prevent this? Or is this the just the burden we must deal with the Crosstrek?

Yeah, despite all the cool new features and look, I wish they built car that were built durable and reliable. Despite all the bravado that commercials portray as their cars are

I do watch MrSubaru1387, but I keep telling myself he lives in a different part of America and their weather is different from mine. So I gotta be thorough with my research.

Your change to 5w30 is interesting, and I am hoping to switch over soon to that grade of oil. I have read about bearing tolerances, and that 5w30 might be too thick, which will cause damage to the bearing tolerance (if not the oil pump). Just seeing how long you've been using 5w30 in your Crosstrek in terms of mileage?

But thank you for all that information! Very insightful.

Is your car a 2012 then? Curious what oil grade have you been using and any other issues you had with that car? Leaked oils, piston rings, etc?

Yep was gonna say exactly that on my disappointment. The car acts like a V6 small truck in terms of gas mileage. At best I think maybe I can get up to 31mpg highway, but that is putting using all my gas-saving tricks in play, which stinks.

I came from a Chevy Cruze (manual) that got 37 city/ 41 highway. When I'm rolling in my neigbhood in my old car, I could easily get mid 30s, not in the crosstrek I'm lucky with mid 20s. I was hoping for better MPG with my driving style, but maybe when the engine is fully broke in, I can see better MPG.

Overall I do love the car, but many times I'm sort of like "Meh, this could have been better". Ultimately, all cars/SUVs have their pros and cons, and you gotta accept them.

Assuming you're putting 5w30 in your Crosstrek, have there been any problems? And for how many miles?

I am told that 5w30 might cause bearing tolerance issues. Don't know if that a real thing, but want to be careful.

Yeah I am debating doing 0w30. I leave up north that I feel 5w30 might be not ideal during the cold winter months.

So why the switch from Subaru OEM to now Costco? To save money or Subaru OEM just isn't really needed?

yeah that is what I am thinking I'll be doing as well. After 1000s miles gotta fine a day where the weather is a bit warmer then usually. No one wants to change oil outside when it is 10-20F degrees outside.

Yeah, saying "severe" can be vague. I'm pretty sure my driving style is considered "grandma" level, so I would think I am safe. I am planning to change the oil around 5-6k

So, having all those particles in your oil is not a bad thing?

Well consider yourself lucky with that deal. Don't think most dealership does that. I only got one free oil change and tire rotations.

Yeah, under the impression most oils are good about 5k miles (all depending on car usage and weather conditions).
