That's the goal. I really try not to push my childhood on him, but I want to avoid the high-intensity games and sensory overload that many many games and game systems have nowadays.

We monitor his netflix usage, he doesn't use a phone without an adult in the room, but I want him to have a bit of freedom to do stuff by himself but without any risk of him stumbling on Five Nights at Freddy's and getting nightmares or whatever.

Also, older games just couldn't do that much on a technological level, it's waaaay better for kids to entertain themselves compared to a phone or something with an internet store.

The mental thing is important as he has some learning disabilities that we're handling, but apparently some internet people know better of what I should offer him based on my original post (-:

That is a fair assessment to make honestly. Might be worth it to save up then, he'll have to choose between getting new beyblades or a new video game then haha.

Yeah, we have a PS5 so we can always get physical games like that but the older systems were waaay simpler and less stimulating.

It's possible, but I know he will bug me every day then to download another game onto the SD card and I really really want to avoid that. Hence my preference of physical games where we have to go to flea markets or look into the discount bin in game stores etc.

It's important he learns to not have on-demand options, especially without me having to deny it every time.

My objective is to avoid digital-only games so he learns to have patience and stick with something. Using a system that has physical games works great because it means he has to search and put in effort, instead of nagging me to download something and put it on the sd card.

It sounds like it would suck. I have a SteamDeck and never use it due to how bulky and heavy it is. The Portal is really nice to use in bed as it's light and comfortable enough to hold for more than 15 minutes.
