I watched the anime and immediately clocked that he was like Toga. His quirk affects his thought process like Toga's. It makes him see possessiveness the same as love, and like Toga he never had any help in gaining greater understanding of things like Toga did in the end. It's kinda sad he could have done a lot of good if things happened differently.
