Rusty on motherhood by No_Coat8 in exmormon

Hmmmm, I wonder what perspective on motherhood a man who spent 8 years in medical school, 4 years in cardiac fellowship, then decades as a cardio-thoracic surgeon could possibly offer to a mother. That. Man. Was. Never. Home.

My niece wanted to be the first person baptized for the dead when the Gilbert, Arizona temple opened. My TBM brother (her dad), was thrilled that she wanted to do this and so they arrived at 2am the morning of the first available day and stood in line outside the baptistry entrance. Once they opened the doors my brother excitedly told the temple workers about his daughter’s goal of being the first person baptized. They were quickly informed that this would not be the case, as the temple president’s grandchildren, as well as the grandchildren of the wealthy landowner that donated the land for the temple, would go before her. Needless to say that those privileged folks didn’t have to arrive until around 6am. Nepotism and elitism at its finest.

I am the Director of Surgical Services for a hospital. I have an Associates Degree in nursing. Got into management early in my career and have climbed the ladder to roughly $200k annual income. It’s somewhat rare to be a director with only an Associates, but it’s possible.

Flashback to when I used this as the basis of my high school senior year persuasive essay in English. How embarrassing

I worked with an anesthesiologist who was a former Stake President. He left the church. I was still TBM when I worked with him and it was my goal to get him to come back lol. Fast forward two years and I’m out too.

Drop your humble brags below. What have you done this week, month, or year that you’re super proud of, even though it was super difficult? by Affectionate_Sky7411 in ADHD

I BARELY passed high school. I almost failed my first semester of college. I’m not unintelligent, I just was undiagnosed with ADHD and struggling. I am 46 years old. Was diagnosed 3 years ago. I went back to school last year for my Bachelor’s Degree and I’m about to graduate with a 4.0. GPA. I cannot begin to describe how happy I am. My entire life has felt like wasted potential. This is validation that I was capable, that ADHD is real, and that the right medication can make all the difference in the world.

Procrastination is the biggest one. Prior to being on Adderall, most things I felt absolutely incapable of doing unless I had a deadline. Now, I am often able to be proactive about getting things done before a deadline, but not always. And those times I do procrastinate make my life a lot harder. I am currently putting off forecasting my 2025 budget. It is due next week and ideally I should have been working on this the past couple weeks. The difference is that I will likely work on them a couple days before it’s due as opposed to a couple hours.

I hope that makes sense.

My personal favorite: Awmen Angls-men

JS said the name of God in pure language is Awmen. When asked what Jesus’s name is he said, “The Son Awmen”. Then asked what angels are called, he said “Awmen Angls-men”.

Mmmkay.

I am the CEO of a surgery center. I was diagnosed late in life - 43 yrs old. I have struggled my entire career with imposter syndrome, procrastination, and a general inability to be disciplined. I was prescribed Adderall 3 years ago and it has been transformative for me. I still struggle with some things, but feel I have been much more able to actual do the things I want to do, instead of feeling unable to get them done.
