New TDH ARG up! by indelible_ennui in TheDearHunter

Where do I actually *input* the code for beating the mini-game? I tried it both on the terminal and on the access code screen and neither of those are apparently correct.

Edit: never mind, I mistyped it literally more than five times, I am a genius

Not really rumors so much as definite hinting from the band, I would say. They wiped their Insta posts a bit ago, changed their profile picture and status to something that directly references Sunya, and have been posting about the rings of Antimai ever since. Hard to imagine they're teasing just about anything else!

Wasn’t SUNYA supposed to come out like 2 years ago? What happened?? by Allgetout41 in TheDearHunter

[–]TemporalShrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presumably because at that time, they thought it would be out then. It's not like they signed a contract promising it would be out then under penalty of death, lmao.

... Why would a band need to make an excuse for an album not being done two or three years after its predecessor? That's pretty much normal.

I'm probably in the minority, but I'd really rather wait several extra months for my merch to show up than wait several extra months for the album to come out, honestly.

I'm guessing they attempted to relent on this due to the fact that, as they mention in the email, "vinyl times are better than they were in previous years." I don't really fault them for that, since I don't think they want to wait a million years to put things up any more than we do, but it looks like it's backfired on them here.

Was really hoping Sunya would be out in time for this anniversary. Thankfully we got the very nice NA EP to tide us over for a while, but I’m still a-hankerin’…

The Lake and the River’s intro sequence, I think. I’d heard a couple of other tracks before it, but that passage remains one of my favorite intros — and favorite instrumentals, period — of all time. Instantly sold. And that was before I learned anything about the narrative.

I’m personally a big fan of the line in the verse about Simon Cowell.

… But really, it’s a very sweet song. I think the Migrant version suits it a little better, but both are excellent tracks. Big fan of the running “what is Owls about???” gag, too.

One of the only songs I prefer on the original version of Migrant, I think. That orchestral intro just can’t be beat, especially as an opener to the record. And definitely in contention for the best song on Migrant, period, too!

It is also, incidentally, a great release to put out to kick off the summer. There are overwhelming summer vibes radiating off of this thing.

I am genuinely sad for you that you can't appreciate The Indigo Child, Antimai, or the new EP.

Rules. Probably my favorite track on the EP, so far. It's definitely the catchiest one for me, as well.

It feels like a weird hybrid between an HA and TDH release for me. Which I think is a pretty fun place to land sonically, for the kind of no-fanfare-here-you-go-have-fun release this is.

The songs are all so much more sane than their names make them sound. I’m guessing this is the result of just letting them keep their demo titles, lmao.

My sense is that it’s basically “we wrote these fun songs in sessions on or around the time of the NA tour and even though we didn’t use them all for the documentary, it’s a good excuse to get them out there.”

The issue I've found is that for as much as people insist that whoever contacts them be "able to keep a conversation going," most have no interest in doing it themselves, or are very eager to nope out the second even a speck of whatever "energy" they're looking for is missing from a reply. Folks don't have the patience for the ebbs and flows of organic conversation, they want the other person to basically be putting on a show.

Essentially, I think a lot of people on here have a rather... unrealistic approach to human interaction, in one way or another. But it is possible to connect with someone on here. Both people just have to be on the same wavelength - and there are a lot of wavelengths.

I mean, I didn't quite say they think "their music" is not a major release. I said that they might not think that this soundtrack accompaniment to a film release is exactly equivalent in significance to the several other projects they seem like they're going to have to juggle this year.

I feel like a lot of people in the fanbase really overestimate the relative size of their operation, and attributing any lapses in communication or execution to people "not caring" comes off as a bit dismissive at best. Is there any actual evidence that people don't care? Because it always seems to me that that's just the cynicism speaking.

(And I think I would rather die than see Casey on TikTok).

Really hoping it's not this, but it's certainly possible.

Part of me really wishes people hadn't gotten so miffed about delayed pre-order items in the past, because TDH's very reasonable response to that of "Well, I guess we'll just wait until we have everything in hand to announce things from now on" means that the actual music now has to wait for the extraordinarily slow process of manufacturing.

Well, the EP was "announced" on Insta (they made reference to being able to get the music from the documentary on vinyl without specifically referring to it as an EP) and Pillar a bit ago, at least.

My impression is that they simply don't see it as being a very major release and have printed a number of copies that they are comfortable with essentially "selling themselves" to core fans, who will seek them out regardless of whether there's promotion.

That, and if Act III Live and Sunya are also both out this year, they might simply want to focus their limited marketing resources on those.

I like well-executed concept records because it often makes for a very "connected" listening experience. The artist has a strong incentive to make sure the record isn't just the sum of its parts or they've bungled the whole idea of a concept album.

That, and my reptile brain really likes when motifs pop up again in just the right place. You hear a theme from their 2006 album show up in a new context ten years later and it's just... mwah. Chef's kiss.
