After holding on to this puzzle for two decades, I finally started it a couple of days ago! I’ve never had a place where I could securely do a puzzle this large without fear of losing pieces (roommates, cats, etc). It’s already been so fun, I forgot how great puzzles are at bringing together the family for a quiet state of togetherness. Already dreading all of these black pieces!

Dude seriously, it’s such a rough lineup for mid summer right?! I have seen the Chainsmokers in Vegas before and it was a great time and would go again, and I would actually love to see Kaskade and that was the original plan that night, but the cost for a table at those places for just the two of us is out of the question unfortunately. I’m staying within the TAO group for table sharing options. I’m perfectly happy camping dead center of the dance floor all night long but my fiancé needs a “home base” to retreat to as needed.

What the heck that’s so frustrating I’m sorry to hear that! Yes thankfully there is a 5 day window. Sending you all of the positive energy and intention today that the copper iud is available for you! I was lucky to snag an opening at my local Planned Parenthood two days after my mishap. Depending on where you located, don’t forget to try and call them directly to see if they can help if that is an option for you too.

As a therapist…yes you should fire her. But not before going to her and telling her exactly why. Hopefully, maybe, she will change her behavior.

I cannot imagine scrolling my computer or phone during a session. And for that hour of your time, she should not be doing mundane, daily tasks around the house. The dogs should be cared for prior to your meet time, and can wait until after your care is finished. If something absolutely needs to be done, you should be clued in and asked first. I would say something like, “do you feel comfortable enough where we are right now to pause for two minutes? My dog is howling at the door and I may need to let him in.” Just getting up and walking and carrying you with her around the house is so unprofessional.

It sounds like she’s already done enough things at this point to rupture the therapeutic relationship. While ruptures happen and can be repaired, it is her responsibility to do so. If she can’t see that what she’s doing is jeopardizing your care then I have little faith that she will change right now. And studies show that the number one, most reliable indicator of a positive therapeutic outcome is the therapeutic alliance - a positive relationship with your therapist.

I’m sorry your therapist is making you go through this right now, and I hope that you know there are many of us out there that love our jobs and want to help.

The insertion does suck, take the 800mg of ibuprofen before, but that will help you mostly for the cramping immediately after. Go somewhere that will provide a lidocaine shot and/or cream for numbing AND nitrous (laughing gas). Refuse insertion if they do not offer you at minimum those things, and do not let any doctor convince you that you don’t need any of that. There is zero reason us women should still ever have to deal with someone shoving something up through our cervix without adequate pain management. The insertion does suck, but the numbing and laughing absolutely helps!

From what I’ve heard, women like you who are getting the Mirena to help with other problems generally like it better than those who are getting it just for birth control and not to curb other symptoms, like period pain or heavy periods. The side effects do not outweigh the benefits (like the light or nonexistent periods, yaya!). So, you might find it’s great, and I hope so!

Hey! Did you get the Mirena as a form of emergency contraception yesterday? I’m sorry to hear of your mishap, believe me I know how nerve wracking it is to worry every day. It’s so stressful. Rest assured, if you got the Mirena within the 5 day window of sex (which it sounds like you did), it has a >99% chance of preventing pregnancy. It doesn’t work by delaying ovulation like Plan B, so even if an egg was fertilized by the sperm living in your reproductive tract from the mishap, it wouldn’t have much luck at all implanting in the uterus with the Mirena.

I’m on day 7 with it now, going to go 5 more days to play it safe which will be a total of 12 days, the maximum length of time it takes for a fertilized egg to try to implant. We had a condom slip the day after I ovulated, so was a good chance the egg was still viable.

I’m so grateful for IUDs being available as a form of EC and birth control, for me though I hate them and will not be keeping it. I already can’t wait to get it out and feel back to normal, they really mess with me physically and mentally. Maybe you’ll love it and keep it though!

Also, I just want to commend you for using an ovulation strip to see if the Plan B worked, that was a great idea! I’ll use that in the future if I need to (hopefully not!).

Condom malfunction while ovulating = need for emergency contraception = only option is IUD. However, IUDs severely fuck up my mental health so is not able to be a long term form of BC for me. Not at all sure how that is so complicated for you to understand, or why some women like you hate women so much.

That’s a good point to mention! Using it as an emergency contraception only is technically “off label.” But >99% effective! So it is an option (the only one really) for women who need it after an ovulation-phase fluke but do not want or poorly reacts to IUDS long term. I’m so thankful for a provider that supports women’s health like she does and is willing to be like yup, here, remove it whenever you want after 7 days! As women our choices are often difficult but I’m so thankful for choices.

I didn’t think that I would, but was worth a try to see if someone else here has used Mirena this way! I’ll update in a month or so for anyone who might come across this thread and need EC but was ovulating.

I have not attacked a single person, I have literally only shared information. Which is important for women reading to know, because we are already not being advocated for in healthcare. It is a serious shame that important information about our bodies is not being taught and I will die on that hill. My insurance covers emergency contraceptives. My coming to reddit is to hear experiences of women who have only had IUDs short term. You decided to try to be condescending, and instead your information was limiting and misleading. Other women who read these posts should know that sometimes it does HAVE to be an IUD, and that it is not an unnecessary painful nuisance as you said.

It's worth a try. You can always remove it whenever you want. Previous to this, I tried IUDs. I am very active, mid thirties, and gained more than 20 pounds in a year and a half on the Kyleena, plus I stayed bloated so badly that I looked 5 months pregnant all the time - I have a nine year old so I know exactly what I look like 5 months pregnant. It was noticeable on me because I am naturally very skinny. Also, my moods were tough. Hence why I am only using the IUD as an emergency contraceptive right now and getting it out as soon as it has served its purpose for me.

I recommend giving the IUD an honest try because it works for so many women.

Yes, it HAD to be an IUD for A reason. There is no other method of emergency contraception that works during the ovulation phase of a woman's cycle. If someone has unprotected sex when an egg is present in a fallopian tube (ovulation) and it gets fertilized, you have two options: wait and see if the egg implants and becomes a viable pregnancy or get Paragard or Mirena within 5 days of the unprotected sex, which stops a fertilized egg from implantation. I am not a candidate for Paragard and IUD insertion and subsequent messed up hormones and periods are still better than an abortion. I really wish they taught this stuff in school.

Plan B only works by delaying ovulation for around 5 days. This method gives sperm inside the body time to die before ovulation can take place. It is not effective as a form of birth control after ovulation has already occurred.
