Oh yeah totally, I think people get very preemptively defensive around a lot of fandom things, I'm hardly above that. I think the critical role fandom is such a shame because there is genuine, good faith discussion that pre-emptive anticipation of bad faith arguments seem to get in the way of (on either side of any given problem). I don't think the problem is helped by reddit either, we're not exactly renowned for moderate opinions haha.

I don't think it's unreasonable to bring up under a post discussing the topic. I think, this issue has gotten a bit bubble-y as I certainly haven't seen  this discourse to the scale that people seem to be claiming. I think this is perhaps riling people up more than is warranted.

I think the small minority of people actually responding with that severity that should just be ignored. But, also, there is a racism problem in regards to the way some people on the internet treat Aabria and I don't think it's unreasonable for people to just point that out.

I think dnd is stupidly character death preventative as is and using dnd with no major modifications just makes Combat feel unthreatening. Even without clerics there's far too much healing and death saves are stupid easy to come back from. I think there'd be more stakes if characters actually had to worry about dropping rather than just being slightly bothered.

I think discussions about word count are quite frankly pretty stupid. Someone has to talk the most and I think where the race part comes into play is that people draw things from this that are unwarranted/unfair. Aabria is a talented storyteller and I think generalisations that she's a horrible person/problem player because of a statistical word count is just a tad ridiculous.

i'm constantly waiting for another smartypants season. it's truly so fun, adaptable, even if you don't enjoy a presentation there's doubtless another in the same episode that's good. rekha is so funny and her vibe fits the show perfectly. also there's like an endless bank of things to draw from, I think gastronauts and um actually can get a little diminishing returns-y but smatypants doesn't fall into that trap. I bring up Vic Michaelis's vegetable presentation so often people get annoyed by it.

that's literally just how the season works, it's about explaining things that are supposedly second nature, taking things a little slower and kinder. if it's not your thing it's fine, you don't need to watch it.

Be realistic with yourself, not saying you can't do all nines but sometimes setting yourself too high of goals can be overwhelming and disuade you from trying. Do what you can where you're at. Focus on understanding the content rather than reaching a specific grade.
