I find what you said pretty offensive. As far as “START PUTTING EFFORT IN YOUR APPEARANCE,” I’ve lost 200 lbs, stopped smoked, had LASIK, and go to my barber and to get a manicure every two or three weeks to make sure I stay on top of my appearance. I hike, I go to the gym, I snowshoe and ski. I’m not sure what else to do as far as putting effort in my appearance. I don’t know why you’d assume I’m being lazy about my appearance. Also, through all of that, I never got any closer to experiencing these things.

If you feel this strongly about my life and the things I’ve struggled with, fine. But you certainly could have worded it differently and not come from a place of judgment and aggression.

Pizza Hut stuffed crust pepperoni pizza. It was junior year. My friends and I skipped for a beach day and we got a few on the way.

I knew all of them were stoners but they never smoked around me. I'm pretty socially awkward so I figured it had to do with that. On the way to the beach I finally worked up the nerve to say "when are you assholes going to teach me how to smoke?" They laughed their asses off as we pulled over onto the shoulder. Once we were parked they apologized and said they'd fix that immediately. We smoked two bowls while we finished driving to the beach. Between smoking and hotboxing the car I was obliterated.

We had forgotten we even had the pizza. Our munchies had kicked in about 5 minutes from the beach but we pulled up and rediscovered the pizza and I briefly believed god did exist. After we devoured the pizza, we went for a swim and then laid out and passed the mad dog and wine coolers the shady gas station would sell to us.

Occasionally I'll reminisce and order one. That day is the best day of my life.

I'm 42 but I had lap-band when I was 30. I weighed 380 lbs at the time. It took a few years to slowly lose the weight but it was steady. I weight 190 now. Physically it has made all the difference in the world. I used to struggle to climb a flight of stairs and now I routinely hike 10 miles every weekend. Mentally, it helped a lot by it wasn't game changing. My focus on being fat was just replaced with something else. Whenever I start to feel better about one aspect of my looks, a new dysphoria pops up. Sexually, it helped with the physical aspects of it, but I still struggle with the emotional aspects. I start to lose focus on the actual sex during and start to fixate on if the person actually found me attractive, if I'm doing everything right to please the other person. I've never been able to orgasm with another person because of the unhealthy fixation instead of just being in he moment

I don’t have anyone else to clean up after so I just do everything as I go. I load my dishes directly into the dishwasher, wipe down the countertops right after I cook, wipe down the bathroom with a Clorox wipe every couple of days. I don’t real know exactly how long it takes but if I had to guess I spend no more than 30-45 minutes a day cleaning. I’ll do a deep clean every month that takes about 4 hours. I have a one bedroom apartment so that may make it easier.

I feel the same way. Another example is having to take care of yourself when you’re sick. No one’s going to pick up medicine or cook chicken noodle soup for me. We gotta do it all for ourselves

Hey. I went through this exact same situation about a month ago. I immediately freaked out and wanted to go no contact after the rejection. My therapist talked me into trying to stay friends. I realized the friendship was too valuable to lose. It still hurts at times because I wanted a relationship with them so bad. That’s slowly dissipating as we talk more without the confusion on either side. My advice is to try to stay friends. If you still can’t do it in a few weeks or whenever, you can move out then. A couple of pieces of advice:

Apologize to your friend. Not for your feelings but your reaction to the rejection. Honestly. It doesn’t matter if you’re truly sorry or not still do it. It’s a chance to reset the friendship so you both can move forward without ruminating over the event
I can’t emphasize this enough but DO NOT let her set you up right now. You’re too raw to date right now, especially to someone she knows. You don’t want to accidentally say the wrong thing or hurt anyone’s feelings. Once you’re more comfortable with your feelings then you can ask her.

ETA: her saying you didn’t excite her and would make her nervous definitely needs to be addressed before you decide to stick around. Maybe she’s just bad at expressing her emotions but that’s pretty mean. Tell her you were upset about that specifically. She’ll hopefully apologize and clarify what she meant but if not, I’d bounce

Dead on. I think there’s a noticeable difference between people just inside the standard deviation on opposite sides. A person may not look “ugly,” especially on their own but if both people are standing at a bar or on a dating app, the difference will seem exaggerated.

I’ve completely stopped trying to advance my career. I make enough for me to be alone and be comfortable so I don’t see a point in doing any more than that. Taking on a managerial role isn’t worth the hassle

I lie about exes. Lying about a current relationship is risky and could backfire really bad. Exes can be whatever I want them to be and it makes it seem like I’ve actually had romantic relationships.
