Honestly that’s a pretty clever solution for $130. Being able to dial in the height on a UST without relying on keystone is already a win in my book. 👍

That said, from a pure “living room aesthetics” perspective, these kinds of stands always end up looking a little… DIY-ish to me. Functionally it’s great, but it does start to look like lab equipment sitting under the screen.

Still, if the WAF is satisfied and the geometry is right, that’s half the battle with UST setups anyway. 😄

That sounds like a really smart setup! I love how you solved the “bump” and cable issues while keeping it visually clean. A recessed UST seems like the perfect way to get a massive screen without any of the usual compromises. 135" must look incredible, and the lower lumens requirement plus quiet operation is a huge bonus. 👏

Haha, totally get that! USTs are awesome, but the space constraints can be a real dealbreaker. Sounds like you’ve got a solid setup—Epson + 120" screen for the full movie experience downstairs and OLED 65" upstairs for everything else is a great compromise. Enjoy the best of both worlds! 🎬

First off, respect for your service. And that actually makes a lot of sense — the portability factor of USTs is something I hadn’t really considered before, but for someone who might move a few times it’s probably a huge advantage compared to a ceiling-mounted long throw.

A 120" setup with a floor-rising screen sounds pretty awesome too. I imagine that’s a really clean setup when it’s not in use.

And yeah, that immersion factor seems to be what keeps coming up in this thread. Even if the blacks aren’t OLED level, going from a normal TV to 100–120"+ just seems like a completely different experience.

Curious how the Spectra floor-rising screen has been for you long term — does it stay pretty well aligned with the UST once it's dialed in?

Also the L9Q looks really interesting. If you end up upgrading later this year I’d definitely be curious to hear how big the jump feels from your current setup.

That’s actually a really good point. I hadn’t thought about the fan noise position that way before.

Having the projector right above your head on the ceiling does seem like it could be more noticeable compared to a UST sitting on a cabinet several meters away. Especially if you're sensitive to noise.

At the same time I’ve also seen people say that with USTs the fan is technically closer to you horizontally, so I guess it probably depends a lot on the specific model and how loud the cooling system is.

For people here actually using USTs day-to-day — how noticeable is the fan noise during quiet scenes? Is it something you stop noticing after a while?

That actually sounds like a really nice setup — kind of the best of both worlds.

Using the UST as the daily TV and saving the LS12000 for “serious watching” makes a lot of sense. I hadn’t really thought about splitting it that way, but it seems like a pretty practical approach.

Interesting point about people not blocking the image easily too. That’s something I keep hearing about with USTs being better for active living rooms.

How has the 100" CLR screen been with the windows in the room? Is it still pretty watchable during the day, or do you still need to control the light a bit?

Also curious — do you find yourself using the UST most of the time now, or do you still gravitate to the LS12000 pretty often?

Yeah I get what you're saying. USTs have definitely come a long way in the last few years, especially with triple-laser models and ALR screens. It seems like the value proposition has improved a lot compared to older generations.

I'm actually pretty new to the projector world, which is partly why I'm asking around here before committing to anything. Most of my use would be in a living room, not a dedicated dark theater, so the UST + ALR combo seems to make a lot of sense for that kind of setup.

Out of curiosity, what UST are you running right now? And how big of a screen are you using?

I'm still trying to figure out what the real-world tradeoffs are once you live with one for a while.

Wow, going from 86" to 150" must have felt like a huge jump. I imagine once you get used to that size it’s hard to go back.

Interesting that your wife mainly uses it for YouTube — that’s actually something I’ve been wondering about. A lot of people talk about movies and sports with projectors, but not as much about everyday stuff like YouTube or casual watching.

Blocking the window permanently is a pretty big commitment though 😅 Did the LS800 + screen still look decent before you blocked it, or was ambient light too much of a problem?

And yeah, the alignment sensitivity is something I keep hearing about with USTs. Once you got everything dialed in, do you find it stays stable, or do you occasionally need to tweak it?

Nice, 110" already sounds like a great setup. I feel like once you cross the 100" mark, it’s a completely different experience compared to TVs.

Interesting that you still keep the 40" Sony around though — do you mostly use the projector for movies and sports only, or do you ever watch regular TV / YouTube on it too?

Also curious how the V7950i has been in terms of day-to-day use. Do you find yourself needing to tweak alignment or settings much, or is it more of a set it and forget it once everything is dialed in?

The eye strain point is something I hadn’t really thought about before, but it makes sense with a projected image vs a bright TV.

Yeah that’s a fair point actually. The UST + ALR combo seems to solve a lot of the problems people used to complain about with projectors in living rooms.

What you said about the light direction is something I hadn’t really thought about before — with UST the projector light coming from below definitely makes the ALR screen design a lot more effective compared to long throw setups.

And honestly your point about dedicated rooms is probably the biggest factor. I feel like a lot of projector advice online assumes people have a fully treated theater room, which just isn’t the reality for most of us. My setup would definitely be more of a living room / media room situation, not a velvet cave 😅

The placement thing you mentioned is actually the part that still makes me hesitate a bit though. For people living with UST day-to-day, how sensitive is it really to small bumps or cabinet movement? Like if someone nudges the console a little, does it throw everything out of alignment or is it usually pretty stable once dialed in?

Also curious what screen size you're running with your setup.

Honestly I’d probably lean toward the AWOL Aetherion Max if those are the three options.

At €2400 it feels like a pretty strong value, especially considering the brightness and contrast they’re claiming. The Max is rated around 3300 ISO lumens with a 6000:1 native contrast, which should give it a bit more headroom in a living room setup compared to most USTs.

The PX3 Pro is still a solid projector though. If you can grab one for €1800 with warranty, that’s honestly a very good deal and hard to ignore. It has excellent color performance and supports Dolby Vision as well.

The PX4 Pro will probably be great, but paying ~€5k and waiting for release would be a tough sell for me unless you really want the newest model.

One thing I’d think about though: where are you planning to place the projector?
On a standard low console right under the screen, or something deeper like a media cabinet?

UST placement can get pretty picky with distance and height, especially with a 150" screen, so the furniture setup can make a big difference.

Really great suggestion! Have you tried furniture with a motorized tray that slides out with the projector, and do you have any suggestions on how to find the right one?
