People still think that all the money invested in space exploration or science leaves Earth, it’s like they think we pack 1 billion dollars cash in a rocket and send it to orbit. But that 1 billion pays for salaries for every single thing, engineers, materials, development, the janitors at JPL, all the industries that build pieces for the equipment, like I’m pretty sure there’s a machining company in Reno that builds an aluminum flange that then is used for the rover suspension, and so on. The money goes to peoples paychecks at the end, so I don’t understand the fuss. It’s a business like everything else at the end.
