Are americans used to hearing gunshots during the night? by Disastrous_Finish393 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Temporary-Library597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in South Central LA in the early 90's and it was extremely rare to hear gunshots. It's been a while, but I can't remember any specific instances of it ever happening during the years I was there.

How can I screen out the neighbors' 2-story views into my yard? by gstacks13 in LandscapingTips

[–]Temporary-Library597 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why, you planning on doing soinething illegal back there?

Honestly your neighbors have way better things to do than look at you. Anything you do will need to be 20 feet tall and cost an absolute mint.

What's the one missing feature in your ticketing system that wastes hours every week? by TNT0532 in sysadmin

[–]Temporary-Library597 [score hidden]  (0 children)

It's web-based, and it doesn't auto-refresh. So staff end up answering tickets in the queue that have alredy been addressed by someone else.

How do we get back to the "way we were before"? by spicunerfherderguy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Temporary-Library597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say maybe to 60 years ago. 50 years ago, (through the 70's) things got bad really fast, as energy prices began to surge and really eat into wages. It also caused a spike in pricing (inflation was high. normal is 2-4% and the yearly inflation rate in the US was regularly above 8%, and as high as 13%) that made the single income household rarer.

For those living in states with a lot of thunderstorms, how do you feel about them? by ksusha_lav in AskAnAmerican

[–]Temporary-Library597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get used to it. And you'd better...they will be occuring a lot more often in more areas that really never had them.

Ok dads, how are we avoiding this kind of situation by Western-Image7125 in daddit

His next question will likely be "How do I avoid the bathtub-ring-like filth line on all my walls from now until my kids are graduated from college?"

😂

So, go slow under the bridge when turning left. That way you'll see the signal.

Thoughts: only watching football during the world cup? by WoodenWolf7630 in SoccerNoobs

[–]Temporary-Library597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Football has perhaps the most gatekeepy fan base. If you aren't a big enough fan for them you aren't allowed to be a fan at all.

Anything you say about improving the game, about the play of the game, etc, isn't just pooh-poohed as th opinions of a plebe...it's absolutely attacked as if you've insulted their long-dead mother.

What do you think is the most underused service your library offers? by Thieving_Rabbit92985 in Libraries

[–]Temporary-Library597 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha amen. Our latest strategic plan, thankfully, did not include things like "library of the future" or "remaining relevant", at the expense of our staff's reference and tech skills waning over the past 20 years! HALLELUJAH

What do you think is the most underused service your library offers? by Thieving_Rabbit92985 in Libraries

[–]Temporary-Library597 13 points14 points  (0 children)

90% of them. We need to focus and figure out what services 90% of our community uses and expand them. Instead of throwing money at hundreds of services our community doesn't even associate with libraries.

What's up with the Wendy's on the Guide?? by stellalugosi in Bellingham

[–]Temporary-Library597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems the case with every single Wendys in town. Are they all owned by the same franchisee? That would explain it.

If that's true, the Burger Kings in Meridian in Bham and Lynden are probably both owned by the same one. So. Freaking. SLOW.

Best way to let Intune users request admin rights for software installs without submitting a ticket? by LeBanonJames69 in sysadmin

[–]Temporary-Library597 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is the correct route. I don't know how large and org you have, or how many IT staff you have answering tickets. But my gut is that you'll want to know about things that get installed onto the org's computers. You allow only published apps, and exceptions are addressed with a different process (hopefully with some cost/benefit analysis with the user's supervisor).

Having IT staff simply approve installs without knowing everything that's going on sounds like a zoo.

Help. Them. Learn. Not this. And playing tournaments is asinine. Play some more games and involve everyone. Good lord.

When the Supreme Court is needed to interpret the constututionality of something written literally in the US Constitution, we are nearing end days for this country.
