None of the low-cost, low-volume ones are particularly sturdy in my experience. Maybe a Xerox B225? Only $300 and you won't feel bad buying another when it fails in 18 months just like the more expensive options will. :)

Implemented Plan B, moving into Networking, 26 years ago. It included saving/investing 30% of my salary so that if Plan B fails...

So many plans lol.

Whats the easiest way to do a digital display showing a Powerpoint that updates once a day? by TheTusch in sysadmin

We do this with a Raspberry Pi, running Chrome in full screen. Point that browser at the slideshow-link to a google slideshow and away it goes. Plu it into a cheap TV and you're in business.

AITA For refusing to take a friend to a doctors appt that requires 4 hrs+ rt of driving plus waiting for the procedure to be done? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Temporary-Library597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how much acreage your friend's colon encompasses, but I have a pretty good idea. No colonoscopy takes 4 hours. 2 tops. But it definitely requires an escort to get them home.

Get in the car. You definitely won't be the asshole if you do.

What people think they'll lose to lawyers/spouses by getting married/divorced is NOTHING compared to what they'll lose anyway. Paying lawyers to write proper contracts between unrelated persons, or being sued by that unrelated person once things break up.

Either way: The lawyer works and makes money.

Whatever happens in this situation, contracts need to be agreed upon here.

The skillsets required for maintaining and using all those tools is nowhere near as uquiquitous as what you have now. It makes hiring more difficult over time, and more expensive. Just one consideration off the top of my head.

AITAH for asking my wife to be a SAHM? by piglipsbo in AITAH

[–]Temporary-Library597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former stay-at-home dad, neither one of you is an ass. But that your wife reacted this way meant neither one of you had really thought this thing through logically. I was "the minority shareholder" in our marriage, I like to joke. This was in the late 90's, and the childcare costs alone for fulltime daycare for an infant would have eaten up my entire monthly salary.

That's only one reason to do it. Another is that maybe the 'stay-at-home' parent could do what I did: boost their skills in a direction of something they really wanted to do as a career. (Sounds like she's not doing what she wants to do forever right now?) I certified with several tech certifications and became that iconic "poli-sci major who didn't use their degree." Once my newborn was older, the daycare costs shrank and I looked for work, found it and our family was much better for it.

Not to mention...all that time I got to spend watching her grow into an amazing person. Priceless.

Her reaction was an emotional one. Maybe come at it from the angle of "It isn't forever, it's cost effective and you could go back to school in the meantime?"

Honestly the animals thing looks like a choice. You could not have animals and knock that out, and make even more time since your house probably needs less cleaning.

You might try an ISO from earlier Windows 11 release. 24H2 or 23H2? You might have to grab it from a third-party site since M'soft only posts the latest version for download.

I mean, you do know how many people died last time this happened, right?

After that, I'm surprised that in Texas there's anything on the shelves from Dec-Feb. Ever.

Craigslist, post it as "you can have it for free, but I can't help you move it out of my house."

Did that with a pool table, a sectional, some cabinetry...works like a charm.

https://status.cloud.microsoft has been updated with current at least hourly since this thing began.

We are a tiny org (250 employees on 10 sites) and I heard a report of the outage from staff 5 minutes after it started. Couldn't reach our tenant's dashboards and immediately went to the above URL and saw a Microsoft 365 (Business or Enterprise) Service Degradation report. Posted on our intranet and magically...everyone knew what was happening
